A TRDMB tip o’the cap to frequent contributor MetsFan4Decades who notes that Carlos Beltran is a guest on tonight’s edition of Mets Hot Stove at 7:00pm on SNY. The program is on most every Thursday night throughout the off season. Check your local listings.

Kevin Burkhardt hosts and SI’s Jon Heyman takes part.  In addition to Beltran, Newsday’s David Lennon and WFAN’s Ed Coleman are expected as guests on tonight’s premiere episode.

Unrelated to Carlos’s pecs, according to my Baseball America Prospect Update Email ™ Ike Davis was 2 for 4 with his 7th double, 4th home run and 4 RBI in his latest AFL game. I like Ike!

Me too! I’ve been loosely following his progress. I don’t recall Davis looking this good. I know it’s only the AFL but his stats from last year looked better than I thought most would have projected.

      Diamond in the rough?

For those that aren’t in the market to get SNY, you should be able to get the highlights of these episode’s here:

    Interesting….

Did not need to see that lead off montage of embarrassing fielding guffaws throughout the year…
–Along with Wilpon’s ‘unacceptable’ opinion of same.

Pelfry’s option picked up resulted in a pay cut for him? Strange. I guess the option was built in before the arbitration raise last year which results in a lower ’10 salary?

You go, Eddie C.: #1 priority should be pitching. Get Lackey or another solid #2. It instantly puts the Mets better than the Phils rotation.’

Kevin did a 3 part interview with Beltran. One and two were in this episode tonight and the third part will be next week.
And I have to just say, looking good, Carlos. He certainly wears those custom suits well.
    - Carlos says he’s doing good, will be fine for ST, will be ready to go.
    - When the bone bruise was first diagnosed and it was small, he said it was his decision to go the cortisone shot route and get back in the lineup. However, he said he felt like he was a little bit forced to do that b/c of all the injuries and those already out before his injury. He didn’t want to take himself out of the lineup long term, if at all possible.
    - Said his only concern on that bone bruise next year will be if he ‘reinjures’ it. Yikes!

    - Beltran believes winning games early in the season is very important.
    - Would love to have Delgado back, says Delgado would like to come back. But both realizes this is a business for owners and if the Mets feel moving on for 1st base is the way to go, so be it.
    - He did say Delgado wants to wind up on a contending team.
    - His advise to Wright on his off year last season is ‘just turn the page. Start over, start fresh’.

Not sure Heyman, who was conferenced in, said anything we haven’t already heard.
He said he believes the Mets are better off just spending and going after Lackey rather than giving up prospects AND spending on a contract extension to get Halladay.

Lennon said the Mets got lucky with the Santana trade and what they got the Twins to accept. He doesn’t see that happening again with Halladay.

Don’t have much to say on any of that but the Pelfrey situation is different. He has yet to receive arbitration. He signed a MLB contract fresh off and went through last year but then left him under team control next year non arbitration eligible.

Beltan’s bone bruise is another reason to go after Cameron. He’d provide some cf insurance
