As of now, reports state that Omar has a 3- or 4-team trade close to happening. Hard to gauge who is involved, but the Mets sending away Slappy and winding up with either Milton Bradley or Juan Pierre seems like as good a guess as any. Pierre is basically the same offensive player as Slappy, but he can play the outfield.
In addition, reports are claiming that Randy Wolf might sign tonight. They say he prefers the west coast, but they also say that Omar is meeting his agent tonight. As Mia Wallace said in Pulp Fiction, “THEY talk a lot, don’t they?”
And Benjie Molina might in fact become yet another Met catcher. Reports say that the Mets love the idea of he and Blanco when it comes to defense and pitch-calling (and not swimsuit modeling), and the hangup remains in trying to lure Benjie with as few dollars and years as possible.
Finally, from what Heyman can gather, the Red Sox might really sell Babe Ruth to the Yanks…stay tuned.

So, I could wake up in the morning
with Crazy Milton in Left, Often-
injured Wolfey as our #2 and Lardarse
Bengie behind the plate?
Jeez,….None of that sounds good.

Actually, yes!
But let’s hope Wolfie is #3.

No Miss Peggy Lee, there shall be more…in the spirit of Joe Namath, I guarantee it.

Well, to me you are!
I was sure you were referring to the 1918 champ Red Sox thinking of selling the Babe!

I’m not as opposed to Bengie as I had been so long as it is a one year deal. This is mostly because of reflection upon Santos, who is just not as good as he seemed and is likely going to be worse next year. Santos’s mediocre offensive performance was actually better than his extensive minor league career record.
Molina at least is what he is. He’ll hit a few homers, clog a few bases, but comes with a track record suggesting he will at least hit .260 and drive in a few runs while hopefully earning his rep as a good play caller. Plus, he’d be probably be a good mentor for Thole if/when he comes up this season. Blanco could be used to overcome Molina’s throwing deficiencies by playing more often against running teams and when pitchers who don’t control runners are on the mound.
Santos had some nice moments. But a .258 .304 .348 minor league line (10 years) does not predict a very strong future.

I agree…if Omar can manage a 1-year deal with a club option while Thole plays a year at AAA, this could be a fine deal.

If Pierre is a Met and is going to start in LF then the Mets will need Rogers Hornsby at 2B.
Pierre isn’t even as good as Castillo.

Didn’t hurt the Dodgers last season. We could do worse! But you are right about 2B,
Joe Morgan wouldn’t be able to make up for the lack of power in LF.
I must again, diagree Wanny
about Molina, You left out how
other teams will be running
around the bases like crazy
and what that might do to
the fragile minds of guys like
Pelf,Maine&Ollie.

By all accounts Molina handles pitchers well. The performance of youngsters like Lincecum and Matt Cain didn’t suffer from runners running free. And as I said, Blanco could play more against teams that run frequently.
Look, I don’t like fatty Molina at all. But he’s better than Santos, which is all I’m saying. Every improvement helps.

Well I’m glad we agree on Molina.
I’m just not sure
Santos isn’t better than you
think, alot cheaper AND there are still options if Omar really wanted another
Catcher.
Plus, like i’ve been saying the fall off with Catchers is real fast and real far when it happens AND
Molina is already past the age where it almost always does.

Chances of Castillo being the Opening Day 2B for the Mets? Too bad Ollie didn’t have a somewhat productive 2009.
