According to Metsblog, Reyes will be in studio to talk with Mike Francesa about where he stands with his rehab
For what its worth…according to a Tweet by AnthonyDiComo and Adam Rubin, Jerry said Reyes is “right on schedule and should be good to go well before ST”
-I hope Reyes comes back with a vengeance next season to quiet the critics. I also hope Reyes returns to the way he was before the hypocritical Phillies manipulated the media into believing that Jose was “showing up” the other teams and that is where the hatred of the NY Mets come from. It seems he has toned it down a bit since then and even though Beltran game him words of encouragement, Reyes listened to the hypocritical haters. Just like Manny can be Manny, Reyes can also be Reyes. Looking forward to that interview…im sure Mike can schedule that before he plays with his train set again.

The mlb.com live feed guys just spoke with their Brewers reporter who stated that the Mets and Brewers are still in talks about a Maine/Hart trade but that those talks are taking a back burner to some Braves/Brewers talks involving Derek Lowe and cash for Mat Gamel who would play 1B for Atl.

From what I’ve read fielding isn’t really Gamel’s thing. That could be a negative factor dealing with an aging Chipper and an erratic Escobar for a team used to having slick fielders like Kotchmann, Tex and LaRoche at 1B.
I think Lowe will bounce back this season.
I hope this trade is made even Gamel hits to the level of his talent.

Excellent point on Chipper, which reminds me that they added that wherever Gamel played for the Braves initially that would be a stopgap until he took over 3B when Chipper retired. They also mentioned corner OF possible for Gamel, I should’ve mentioned those things as well, my bad.

No need. You’re the one providing all of the information and I’m just sitting here soaking it all in.
If the Brew trades Gamel it’s because they’re convinced he can’t play 3B. I know Keith Law and scouts that he has referred to are already convinced of this.

I love Jose, I have followed his career since the low minors, I think when healthy he is one of the most valuable and best all-around players in the game, I love Omar’s extension of his contract, and I hope he retires a Met.
But he acts like a damn petulant baby all the time, from the dugout dancing, to throwing on-field tantrums when he gets thrown out at 2nd, to whining when Jerry tried to take him out of a game in 2008.
Why the hell can’t we rationally evaluate this when it comes to a Met?

I’m not clear on exactly who the Mets team doctor is at this point. Is it still David Altchek? Either way, Dr. Altcheck gave Kelvim Escobar a ‘positive report’ and the Mets are listed along with other teams who are ‘keeping tabs’ on him. Rays, Yanks, Brewers, Ms, Os the other teams.

Do yourself a favor and get the Night Tripper Gris Gris album from about 1970—his only universally recognized 5 star release, and it is SO unique and fantastic, trippy and grooving, and unlike his other, later stuff.

I wonder what that deal would do to the LaRoche market? Who is in need of his services besides Mets, Braves and Giants? seriously the market seems to be very quiet there. Is it possible that he slips to 2/12 with an option?
GravediggerHebner
12/8/2009-4:05pm at 4:05 pm (UTC -4)
It could have some effect, but Gamel at 1B is not a sure thing, he may play elsewhere and with part of Lowe’s salary gone give the Braves MORE money for LaRoche.

I guess the Sox might possibly be interested in platooning him with Lowell or something approximating a platoon.
At 2/12 he’d be difficult to pass on as an insurance policy behind Muroh/Davis. Just play the hot hand from among them.

you guys arent getting my point—we need more than just one All Star player.
look at last season. Omar was completely content with signing K-Rod and Putz and resigning Ollie. In his mind that was a playoff team. While i begged for them to let Ollie go, they decided that Lowe, Garland, Wolf were not better options.
They made no improvements to the lineup or the rotation. In fact I argued that Pelfrey and Ollie would be worse than the year before…
This year i propose they acquire 2 of either Holliday, Lackey, Halliday, Bay or a player of similar status. That might be “too much money” but I dont care…I believe that anything short of that will leave us out of the playoffs…

Well Oleo, many of us think that the 2009 team was a playoff team without the most ridiculous injury situation in team history, and maybe one of the worst in the history of the sport (where is the research on this?)
We missed the postseason by one game in 2008 and Omar got two excellent closers. If JJ was damaged goods, then Omar deserves grief for that.
Acquiring two of those huge players will leave us with no money to fill in other holes.

12/8/2009-5:32pm at 5:32 pm (UTC -4)
that is where i disagreed. I thought it was too much to ask Pelfrey Maine and Ollie to all pitch at their bests all season long…

12/8/2009-4:24pm at 4:24 pm (UTC -4)
Thing is oleo…the reality is the Met just have too many holes to fill up in one offseason. They either dont have the $$ or resources(prospects) to get stuff done. The most we can hope for is to fill major holes such as LF and SP….the rest we gotta hope takes care of itself
oleosmirf
12/8/2009-5:35pm at 5:35 pm (UTC -4)
well unfortunately that seems to be the case and that means that we will most likely be missing out on the playoffs again this year…
they still have to play the games but its not looking too promising

Nice plan but realistically, it’s just not going to happen. Not unless Omar gets extremely lucky and/or some GM is dumber than he appears. I’m willing to bet we get only one of Type A and a couple/three Type B’s.
By your comment of ‘we need more than just one All Star player’….I’m assuming you mean in acquiring more than one this off season? …Because as currently constructed they do have more than one ‘All Star’…
I’m going on record as saying I still want Lackey. Unless Omar pulls off some under the radar trade not being hinted at right now, IMO Lackey would be that solid #2 we need behind Johan.

12/8/2009-5:41pm at 5:41 pm (UTC -4)
yes i meant this offseason.
the thing is Omar is great at getting the star player but he fails miserably when it comes to the other everyday players and it doesnt help that we have no MLB ready impact prospects like we did when we had Wright and Reyes in the system…
He tends to overvalue guys like Castillo, Cora, Ollie etc. and rely too much on the cheap alternative like Pagan, Tatis, Redding etc. rather than the Bobby Abreu, Garret Anderson, Juan Rivera.

oleosmirf says:
Tuesday, December 8 2009 at 3:34 pm
well i expect Omir to bat around .230 but thats not the point. Omar doesnt bring in the secondary players and the team has been too top heavy for years.
Beltran, Wright, Reyes, Santana, K-Rod is a great core but we need more guys like Francoeur. Not star players but they arent below average…

These two posts are contradictory.
One one hand we need more stars. On the other hand we’re too top heavy and need more guys like Francouer.

well my point is our lineup has been, all star, crap, allstar, allstar, allstar, crap, crap, crap the past 3 years.
you look at the phillies, yankees, red sox etc. they dont have guys like Pagan, Santos, Murphy/Tatis, Castillo playing everyday

12/8/2009-5:34pm at 5:34 pm (UTC -4)
Feliz? Melky? Gardner? The Red Sox SS poo-poo platter? Veritek?
And your point is really apples to oranges, since everyone you listed for the Mets (other than Castillo) was a bench or MiL player until pressed into service to replace 1 or more injured guys.
oleosmirf
12/8/2009-5:45pm at 5:45 pm (UTC -4)
starting the year last year we had Church, Murphy/Tatis, Schneider/Castro, Castillo as the bottom half of our lineup.
compare that to other playoff teams and that is why they are ahead of us…Not too mention their better starting rotation
GravediggerHebner
12/8/2009-4:45pm at 4:45 pm (UTC -4)
That’s fine if you don’t care that it might be “too much money” but others, including the Mets, might think that it is too much.
Then what?
It sounds like an easy set up for an off-season “I told you so” but it’s so unlikely to happen that I consider it an unfair set up.

This is a far different place than Metsblog, the Star Ledger, MLBTR, or Mets.com, as you can see Oleo.
This place is filled with reasonable people who remain optimistic, and understand that you just cannot have an all-star at every position.

As far as the talk in previous threads about whether the Mets could’ve got Edwin Jackson, per David Lennon Omar inquired but was told that the Tigers liked other teams “available prospects” better.

one problem with analyzing 3 way deals like this is figuring out what inflow matched which outflow.
Jackson is an interesting optin, but he is no more of a sure thing than Pelfrey, considering he really had 1/2 very good year so far.
Heck, he really isn’t more productive than what maine has been (before the shoulder problem shut him down).

Beyond ridiculous.
I wonder what Boras does in a meeting with club officials when they mention the concept of home/road splits.
Holliday is a very good player, who has yet to show that he anything more than a slightly better version of Dante Bichette.
He surely will get the chance over the next couple of years.

I must be a Met fan, because I find it very funny that a baseball writer just tweeted a minute ago “still no comment or confirmation from Dombrowski (Tigers GM) on trade.”
Boy it’ll be funny if this deal fails to go through.
