Rumor (and Fact!) Update

–According to MLBTR, Chien-Ming Wang has been non-tendered by the Yanks.

–Also according to MLBTR, Kelly Johnson has been non-tendered by the Braves.

–According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, the Mets “may” have made a serious offer to John Lackey

–Also according to ESPN, the Mets pursuit of Jason Bay may be “heating up.”

What does all of this mean? It clearly remains to be seen, but would anyone be unhappy with Lackey, Bay, Molina, and Wang added soon?

Please let us know!

I would love to see the Mets get those 3 but at the same time I won’t hold my breath .

Contrary to some reports, #Mets have not made an offer to John Lackey. Still focusing on Bay at the moment. 3 minutes ago from web

maybe they did. Or maybe they didn’t. Or maybe something else entirely.

Or, A was tru but now B is, unless it was realy C all the time.

You can all relax now that I cleared everything up for you.

I would love to know where these writers get these rumors ? From blogs?

      1. stickguy

Probably blogs, off hand concersations with sources, and my personal favorite, they just flat out make them up.

Make it vague enough, and never have to attribute a source, and you can say anything as long as it isn’t slanderous.

Well dang – getting me all excited only to have my hopes dashed – re: Lackey.

Sometimes, just sometimes, it was a little bit easier back in the day, when all the news I could get on the Mets was printed in the paper. None of this ‘breaking rumors’ every 5 minutes. A full 24 hours had to go by before these analysts and such would have to decide what story to go with for the day….

I’d be more than happy with Bay and Lackey.
    I’d be O.K. with Molina.
    Wang? Not so much….

I think TRS had articulated this previously, but it seems possible that the Mets know there is no way they could sign both Holliday and Lackey, but hope there is at least some possibility that they could sign both Bay and Lackey (apparently by backloading their contracts if what I read is true, shuddering at thoughts of the Blue Jays).

Other than the backloading part, I hope this is their thought process and that there is some validity to it.

To answer Kingman’s question, no I would not be unhappy with that haul. Even though I think the Mets could get better individual players than all four, I don’t think they could get all four of those better individual players. This would be a very happy compromise.

Omar has stated that he has the money to do what he pleases and that there is no “budget”. If he isnt full of it, than there is no reason why they cant get both Holliday/Bay and Lackey.

How about a set up pitcher?

Just saw on Mattsblog that Bay has a 5 yr offer from someone. I see no reason the Mets can’t swoop in with a 5yr of their own. I hope they can wrap this up soon and shift the focus to pitching.

      Don’t confuse rumor and fact!

I’ll be happy with Lackey. Bay and Molina… I’d be happier with Marquis and no Molina. I’ll live with the 3 backup catchers and better pitching.

    Lackey Yes
    Wang NO

The Yanks have tons of money and could use another SP. If there was any possibility of Wang being any good this year, they’d offer him a contract. Buyer Beware!

What Case said. If we’re gonna take a flier, make it someone like Sheets.
