In other less dramatic news…Matsui may be close to signing with Angels

According to Tbrown from Yahoo.com’s source, Godzilla is seriously considering the deal to the Angels for 1/$6.5 Million.

-Talk about a slow day. As much as the Mets universe is imploding with the whole Halladay news, consider a point that our good friend wanny made. With the Phillies wrapping up on Halliday, Mariners getting Lee, Angels getting Matsui, the Red Sox with Lackey and the Yankees with Granderson…does this leave the LF market(Bay, Holiday) to the Mets and them alone?

Just wanted to let people know, the Met universe is not imploding.

I just looked out my window, and it is fine.

    1. metsfan4decades

      Ha!
The difference between retaining Lee and trading him to acquire Halladay?
      ….Might be negligible.

The difference between reading about it over here on TRDMB and Mattsblog:
‘Note: I’m Freaking Out’. So says his latest post.

Last thing I want to be reading now is the owner(s) of the blog and their bipolar analysis…..

But isn’t it fun to tell the sky is falling crowd that they have dust on their shoulders?

Can’t help with the universe issue. I live in Philly country, so right now, the universe outside looks just fine.

Even after seeing the eagles shredded for 500+ yards and a bunch of points. Danged Giants.

“But isn’t it fun to tell the sky is falling crowd that they have dust on their shoulders?”

        YES

    3. GravediggerHebner

You weren’t by chance looking in the direction of Philadelphia were you? ;-)

      1. Kingman 26

        LOL!

No sir! I was looking due south down the thruway, right into Queens, and everything looked fine.

The only falling sky I saw was in East Rutherford, NJ.

        Doh!

        1. GravediggerHebner

No sky falling there, the defense is porous but the playoffs are still within reach without much interference.

          1. Kingman 26

True….same for the Dolphins, but without the porous defense…

  2. stickguy

smart move by the Angels if he takes it. Replace Vlad with what is probably a better bat at this point, and get smoe picks too (didn’t they offer him arb?)

interesting thought I had, related to the Mets having the LF market cornered. The Sox still need one, and with the lackey deal, they probably re out of the bay/holliday running.

so, any chance they bring Damon back? He still needs a job! and LF at Fenway should help hide his noodle arm for at tleast 1/2 the games…

even better, if the Sox get him, then they definitely won’t be in on Bay.

I do think Holliday ends up in the Bronx. I started calling that one during the season. You can look it up!

  3. metsfan4decades

And what’s up with the Molina offer?
I’ve seen guys who were non tendered by their teams midnight Sat who already have signed deals.

    1. GravediggerHebner

My wild guess is they are playing Torrealba against Molina. Torrealba has a grievance against the Mets for backing out of a contract with him a few years ago and is coming to NY this week to settle that grievance.

To me it’s not impossible to think that as part of that settlement he gets a contract from the Mets.

      1. metsfan4decades

        Interesting…

      2. Kingman 26

Grave, I tried to give a thoughtful response to your VERY thoughtful comment on my piece yesterday…really appreciated the time and thought you put into it….

        1. GravediggerHebner

I haven’t revisited that thread since I left that comment, and I probably won’t unless you request that I do.

I find the timing very interesting in that you were quashing negativity yesterday and now look at what’s happened today. You may need to re-double your efforts on that front.

If nothing else you made an excellent pre-emptive strike.

I am pretty sure the point of your post was not to tell me to shut up. I am also pretty sure that my long comment was a bit over the top, but I enjoyed both reading your post and responding to it. So we’ve got that going for us.

          1. Kingman 26

My intention was absolutely and positively not to tell you to shut up, and I profusely apologize if that is how you took it.

Your response made me think, and will improve my wording in the future.

In all seriousness, there are other folks I like and respect on here as much as you, but no one I really hold in higher regard.

          2. fongy2

I don’t know what happened here BUT I’d think you’d be in a great mood given the life your Dolphins are showin’ Brock!
Now go get your f*ckin’ shinebox!!

          3. Kingman 26

Maybe you didn’t hear about it, you’ve been away a long time Fongy. They didn’t go up there and tell you. I don’t shine shoes anymore…

            :-)

          4. Kingman 26

And yes, my Fish, regardless of the ending of this season (and it looks good with Tenn, Hou, and–gulp–Pitt remaining) we are going to be fantastic next year.

All we need is what we have with one more year under their belts, a healthy Ronnie B, and a couple of WRs who can catch the damn ball.

But we could make some noise this year too, as other than Indy and SD, we can probably play with anyone in the AFC.

I am definitely getting concerned about the 72 Dolphins undefeated season being matched though….

          5. GravediggerHebner

I didn’t take it that way.

I know that you know that I know that you know it’s all a gray area, and we do a good job of working in that gray area even when we disagree on stuff.

I took what you were saying as to be against those who view it (incorrectly IMO) as a black and white thing (i.e “Molina sucks, Bay sucks”).

But I just wanted to take the opportunity to speak up for the gray area folks who may be more doubtful about some things. And I thank you for the opportunity.

          6. Kingman 26

You did a great job…I really did appreciate the thoughtful response.

And no one ever called me Khrushchevian before!

            You da man.

            :-)

These guys on SNY Wheelhouse are the reason I have to stay away from the TV these next few days and only get my info from the internet…

One guy says no way Halladay wanted to come here b/c he doesn’t believe Reyes as the asking offer would have held up that deal.
One guy says Mets didn’t actively pursue Lackey b/c they didn’t want to overpay at 100MIL. Well, he was had for 85MIL so what exactly was the mindset there?

Bottom line this past 45 minutes from DNL and Wheelhouse is the Mets 2010 season is over before it started.

    Sigh….

    1. GravediggerHebner

Brandon Tierney is very good at what he does, which is to make people upset and emotional because then they call his radio show. If he thinks the Met season is already over good for him, he now has lots more free time.

I am also having trouble trying to figure out how it’s not over yet, but I blame myself for that. There are people with more knowledge and experience than I can ever hope to have in charge of making sure it’s not over, I am putting my trust in them to get it done and wishing them luck. They still have time, they just need to be more creative than I am being about it right now.

      1. fongy2

To quote the great Yogi Berra again,
        “it’s getting late,..
        early”……..
        Juunowatemsayin’???

      2. metsfan4decades

        And on Loudmouths:
Schein saying Mets are idiots for not doing the Reyes trade for Halladay.
Carlin saying normally he’s the voice of reason but now he’s going on record as saying even he thinks it’s time to panic if you’re the NY Mets and it’s fans.

Schein cannot believe the Mets didn’t do whatever was needed to get Lackey.
Both saying it’s a bad, bad day for NY Met fans.

O.K., so maybe it is. I’ll not hide my head on that. But…..I’m not writing off anything just yet.

  5. fongy2

    Playing Torrealba against Molina….
    Wow!…Sounds great!…Wasn’t aware
that Catcher was our biggest need…
    or even 2nd…or 3rd…or 4th…..
All I can do is shake my head, sigh
    and mutter…….Omar…and chuckle.

    1. Kingman 26

      Omar makes you chuckle?

Let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it’s me, I’m a little f***ed up maybe, but Omar’s funny how, I mean funny like Omar’s a clown, Omar amuses you? Omar makes you laugh, Omar’s here to f***in’ amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How is Omar funny?

    2. asod75

      Fongy,
I don’t get this either. For some reason, the Mets are convinced the catchers were a big problem on the team. Maybe the fact that guys like Livan Hernandez, Tim Redding, Pat Misch and Nelson Figueroa (along with Bobby Parnell) made several starts for the Mets last year, and the fact that Dan Warthen is a terrible pitching coach is the reason the Mets’ pitching numbers were bad. Don’t care if you get Joe Mauer here (although that would be awesome), no catcher will squeeze any worth out of the garbage the Mets paraded on the mound last year.

      1. Kingman 26

Sorry pal, but Molina has caught Lackey, Halladay, KRod, Cain, Lincecum, and had loads of success with them all. He is respected as a leader, and they say he frames pitches extremely well, which might tremendously help Pelf and Maine and Ollie.

SF has a great young catcher who tore up AAA and that is why they let him go.

No offense, but you have to try to look deeper into the game to see why a guy like Molina might be worth a LOT more than his weight and OBP stats might suggest.

        1. asod75

Dude, I’m not really ripping Molina here, just saying a catcher won’t make a big difference if Omar continues to bring in garbage pitchers. I like Molina, but only on a short-term deal.

          1. fongy2

            Brock,Lincecum,Lackey,KRod etc.fell apart
            w/o Molina?
            C’mon man!
We’ve been over this,he’ll be 36years old soon!
THAT is a non-starter when shopping for Catchers!

  6. dirtysanchez

lol..it really isnt a big deal. We didnt hit Lee when he was with philly, we are not going to hit halladay…just a change of face, same result

    1. metsfan4decades

According to Schein on Loudmouths, the Phillies just became a 100 W team.

      Bah…..

      1. dirtysanchez

hahaha…need to see it to believe it. I think they become better but 100 wins…idk about that

  7. fongy2

Fear not The Steelers to close the season Brock, I’m pretty sure The Dolphins will see plenty of 2nd stringers including the kids drafted
the last 3 seasons, none of which have been great drafts for us.
Plus, you guys don’t have to worry about our having some sort of great
game plan to stop The Wildcat. He
    ain’t that sharp!

    1. Kingman 26

      Sounds good to me!

Cannot really believe how Henne has been playing, especially with our mediocre WR corps…VERY surprising, but could be coaching and the Magic of Parcells.

      1. fongy2

Tell me about it with Henne!
I have a friend who was in my wedding party and is a HUGE
Michigan fan, could care less about baseball or the NFL BUT is crazy about The
        Wolverines, HE can’t
        believe how good Henne
has become…and so fast! Says its like
        Brady all over again.

  8. rustyjr

THIS IS PAINFUL ILL TELL YAS

  9. wannybackstra

The same who are criticizing Omar for paying attention to the catching position (when don’t currently have anything resembling a starting quality player) are the same people who will criticize Omar at the end of the year for being unable to “multitask” if the Mets wind up with a shortage behind the plate.

    1. Kingman 26

      + A LOT

    2. fongy2

      Ahh, Santos, Thole, Coste,
      and Blanco…..Shortage?????

      1. wannybackstra

Which of those do you project as a competent major league starter right now? And if you can answer that, please point to the evidence of the same.

        1. fongy2

          Santos, 2nd half last season????

          1. wannybackstra

            .250 .290 .367 was his second half.

            Good luck.

And consider his 10 years of minor league baseball were: .258 .304 .348
