Molina wants 3 years

According to Ken Davidoff from Newsday, Molina cites other catchers who got 2 years and wants the Mets to give him 3.

According to WFAN, Matsui inks the deal with Anaheim.

-What a day. I hope Omar’s retaliation is not to give into 3 years of Molina.

he does ralize that he is 36 already, right?

1 year take it or leave it. Where exactly else is he going for 6 mill?

Oh yeah, he also wants 2x the annual salary the other guys got.

so give him 2/6 instead of 1/6. Heck, give him 3/6 for all I care.

1 + an option year if they are being generous.

Apparently he’s not going to Toronto, who just signed Ramon Castro.

Well if brian schneider gets two, and all there other catchers get 2, he is alot better hitter than any of them and is a big name, so why wouldn’t he want 3?

Agreed, but he has waited so long that right now it’s the Mets and uh… the Mets in the market for him.

Kind of like Abreu last year. If Ibanez gets 3/30+ then Abreu gets more than 1/5. What happen? Waited too long.

    Pass.

    Call Barajas.

I agree Wanny but who on earth is even going to give him 2 years right now besides maybe the Mets? I think the guy has waited too long. Would not be the first time he has done this.

      1. wannybackstra

        that’s his problem.

Agreed, but I would just be patient. If they want him for 1+1 I think they can get him. I can’t see ANYONE giving him 2 years right now.

According to Mets Fever, David Lennon says the Mets are interested in this guy (the pitcher).

Saw that, missed a lot of time with TJ surgery and did not have as much velocity when he returned. He would be a setup man.

      1. GravediggerHebner

IMO they need a set up man, so if that’s what he would be I’m fine with that. I watched the vid and he’s got a nice slider, he makes former major leaguer Larry Bigbie strike out on a way high FB.

According to the article, even with the lost velocity his FB is in the upper 90s and his splitter is around 90.

If he comes cheap he’s worth a look, Omar’s gonna need to have a lot of juggling balls up in the air over the next 2 months, might as well make this guy one of them.

It’s so hard to remain optimistic at this point, with more players coming off the board. It now seems imperative to sign Bay or Holliday (I prefer Holliday but like both), and if they somehow whiff on both, they’re in big trouble. Then you might really see them do something stupid (like give three years to Molina and Johnny Damon for instance). I’m hoping for the best, but would like to see some movement soon.

I hear you. It would be nice to have something to hang my hat on, but the 1 guy I really wanted (Lackey) is gone.

Now I’m in wait and see mode. Since the guy I coveted is gone I no longer feel impatient.

As long as they don’t sign Molina or some other aging vet to a three-year deal, I’ll be fine. Really want Holliday, but at this point I think they should at least take a look at Aroldis Chapman, not for this year, but the future. Signing a 21-year-old fireballer would be a nice boost to the minor-league system, and since I’m not sure if the Mets can contend this season, it might be worth the gamble.

You can’t blame a guy – or his agent for trying.
But you can blame Omar if he makes this deal.
