Cardinals Offer Mega Deal to Holliday!

Will it be Holliday for the Cards?

Will it be Holliday for the Cards?

Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that the Cardinals have offered Matt Holliday at least 8 years at around $16 million per season.

The proposal at least temporarily dwarfs the average value of the seven-year, $100 million extension the Cardinals and first baseman Albert Pujols negotiated in February 2003.

Strauss goes on to wonder if Brian Cashman and the Yankees will pull a Teixeira.

Seems like Omar Minaya certainly got things going by offering Jason Bay a four year $65 million contract. With the Red Sox signing Mike Cameron and John Lackey, the Phillies trading for Roy Halladay, the simmering hot stove is on fire. So while the Cardinals and maybe the Yankees duke it out for Holliday, the Mets are trying to convince Jason Bay not to go out West with the Angels or Mariners.

All is not lost for the Mets, there are still plenty of options on the free agent and trade market.

What do The Real Dirty Mets Blog readers think about this?
