This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty 12-21-09

And another one gone
and another one gone!
And another one bites the dust

Another one bites the dust ” – Queen

Okay so we all heard the announcement that Jason Marquis has allegedly signed with the dreadful Washington Nationals ( so much for being a perfect fit for the Mets) . Am I devastated? No – I always felt that he is a back of the rotation guy – not a solid number two. Am I scared? Honestly scared is not the word – nervous is ! I say this because with Marquis gone it thins the middle tier starting pitching market even more. Which in turn I believe means that our esteemed General Manger – Omar Minaya will panic and sign Joel Pinero for four years and 45 million dollars. Honestly I am starting to buy into this perception that Omar has problems multitasking . I mean it’s obvious that negotiations with both Jason Bay and Bengie Molina are in a state of arrested development and you would think that Omar would delegate either John Riccio or Wayne Krisky to open up negotiations on other fronts with other players. Or is Omar really not in control – but a mere puppet for Jeff Wilpon – Let the conspiracy theories commence !!.

With that said – Here comes the INFAMY !!!!

Happy Birthday to one of the best, pure power hitters that this organization has ever had – Dave” Sky King” Kingman (1948) . This ones for you my esteemed colleague !!
One of the best reliever this organization ever produced – Roger McDowell is 48(1960) . I always loved Roger. He was the the comic relief of the team, always quick with a joke , a rally cap or a occasional hot foot. Unfortunately he is the pitching coach for the Atlanta Braves ( I wish he was ours !)
Our key acquisition in the Robbie Alomar to the Chicago White Sox deal – Royce Ring is 29 (1980) .
One of the bag of balls that we traded to the Minnesota Twins for Johan Santana – pitcher Philip Humber is 27 (1982) . He recently signed with the Arizona Diamond Backs.

Unfortunately on this date in 2007 pitcher for the ’67 team – Jack Lamabe passed away.

Colorado Rockies signed outfielder Daryl Boston of the New York Mets as a free agent on December 21, 1992. Boston was supposed to make us fans forget about Daryl Strawberry after he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. To make a long story short – we never forgot about Strawberry – but we sure did forget about Boston !

New York Mets signed free agent pitcher Pat Mahomes on December 21, 1998. He was a decent spot starter, long reliever, and he found much success after he signed with the Twins.

Utility man Matt Franco granted free agency on December 21, 2000.

Houston Astros signed pitcher C. J. Nitkowski of the New York Mets as a free agent on December 21, 2001.

Minnesota Twins signed one time pitching prospect Pat Strange of the New York Mets as a free agent on December 21, 2004.

New York Mets signed free agent submarine throwing reliever Chad Bradford of the Boston Red Sox on December 21, 2005. Chad was one of the keys to that dominant ’06 bullpen.

And before you take that cyanide capsule – just remember – there are only 105 days until the Mets open the 2010 season against the Florida Marlins at Citi Field .

Get a room men. This is a family site.

Now, get off this multi-task nonsense. Especially if you believe that Omar is a puppet, and isn’t allowed to take a dump without permission (and a chaperone).

All those guys in the FO, and once they made those 2 offers (wait, 2- that implies multi! How did they do them both at the same time!), they comepletely shut down all other activity?

It especially makes no sense, since neither one of those guys is a pitcher. Or do you really believe they are not going to look at any SPs until they sign a 3rd catcher, and a new LF?

Stick how about moving this one to the other post. It is also very appropriate.
