This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty 12-29-09

Well I was listening Mike ” My sh%t don’t stink” Francessa on WFAN yesterday hoping to at the very least to hear a mea cupla from him about him not giving the New York Jets a fighters chance of beating the Indianapolis Colts this past Sunday. Well he gave one of those half assed be grateful because it was a gift statement and not to expect the Jets to get to far into the playoffs. So after listening to a couple hours of his pontificating and his rambling, his arguing and his hubris , he mentions that he will be giving a “ major ” update regarding the Mets on today’s show. So I start pondering what this update could be? Is Mets brass giving Jason Bay and Bengie Molina a ultimatum on accepting the contract they offered? Have we opened the door for negotiations with Matt Holliday? Is there a trade that’s about to be announced? Are the bringing in or lowering the walls? Or are they just going to announce that the are putting urinal dividers in the men’s promenade restrooms. Tune in if you dare – the answer might just annoy you !!

                                                                                Mike Francessa has a ...

” Will he make a ground breaking announcement ? or does  the ground just shake when he walks?

And now-  LET THE INFAMY BEGIN !!

Birthday wishes go out to middle reliever who briefly pitched for the ’86 Championship team – Rick Anderson (1956). Rick is better known as the player traded along with catcher Ed Hearn to the Kansas City Royals for some unknown pitching prospect known as David Cone – ( I wonder what ever happened to himsarcasm)
One of the many revolving door left fielders that played for the Mets this past season – Emil Brown is 35 (1974) .

Texas Rangers signed Kenny ” Walk em home ” Rogers of the New York Mets as a free agent on December 29, 1999.

and dont forget as you drink your depression away – there are only 97 days until the Mets open the 2010 season against the Florida Marlins at Citi Field.

Prediction: Fatty’s “ground-breaking announcement” about the Mets will be equally as earth-shattering as the “two huge announcements” that were supposedly going to be made during the winter meetings, which would “likely overshadow any signings or trades”. Does anyone remember either of these announcements? I’m not even sure they were made, but I do remember Granderson and Lee/Halliday trades.

Moral of the story, don’t trust a announcement for an announcement unless it’s made by the SOURCE ITSELF. If MLB or the Mets say “we’re going to make a huge announcement tomorrow” I’ll believe it, but if it’s some media drone, it’s almost never as good as they make it sound.

He must be having a light lunch then.

I am guessing that it relates to the Mets because he’s going to announce that he’s switching from Diet Coke to Diet Pepsi and the Mets have a Pepsi Porch.

Before the Mets get around to adding any Met memorabilia to Citi Field, they will add a giant caricature smiling Mike Francesa head above the Pepsi Porch, which will be sort of like the home run apple in that it will be rigged to fall on and crush the crowd in the Pepsi Porch if/when the Mets collapse again.

That middle reliever who pitched briefly for the ’86 Mets is doing a nice job as pitching coach in Minnesota working under another obscure former Met, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire.

Maybe in the second decade of the 21st century, some former obscure Mets can come on board and overachieve as Met coaches and managers.

Why would the Mets flagship station sit on a MAJOR Mets update for 24 hours? This stinks like desperation.

The more I think about this, the more I think it’s going to be a Madoff-related update.

So, Mike says Bay to sign next week and Molina still holding out for three years with Mets offering one. But, he thinks Molina will end up with the Mets.

Let’s see if he’s right about Bay.
