A TRDMB Tribute: Randy Johnson

UPDATE: In honor of our website being down most of the day, and of Randy Johnson announcing his retirement, we bring back this tribute to RJ originally published June 4, 2009 after he won his 300th game.

Here at The Real Dirty Mets Blog, we are first and foremost Met fans, but surprisingly enough we are also baseball fans.  Tonight we salute Randy Johnson, who with the Giants’ victory over the Nationals this evening has become only the 24th pitcher in the glorious history of Major League Baseball to win 300 games.  So for outstanding achievement in the field of excellence, Randy Johnson this phantasmagorical montage is for you:

Je me souviens

Je me souviens

First began cultivating the mullet in the Great White North

Even his signature is huge

Oh to be young, 6′ 10″ and near the Space Needle

Near mission control, could be seen from space

Near mission control, could be seen from space

Briefly in Houston which proves too humid for proper mullet styling

Soul patch a good combo with mullet

Soul patch a good combo with mullet

It’s not just him, no one looked good in those early DBack uniforms

The worm in the big apple

The worm in the big apple

Yankee tradition put a temporary dent in the mullet

Thank God they changed the team colors

Thank God they changed the team colors

The dry heat is better for the mullet

One step for Giant man

One step for Giant man

One leap for Giant into history books

Ladies and gentleman, Randy Johnson, 300 game winner

lol been a crazy day but this was a bright spot
I watched the game live on MLB Network
It was great as a baseball fan to see another 300 game and perhaps the last in quite a looong while. Im glad he got this done and congrats to him and his family. He has to lighten up tho lol

    Thanks for this post Grave.

I lived in Seattle during the 90s, and in his last years there and first years in AZ, he was more dominating over a long stretch as any pitcher I have ever seen. He and Griffey and Edgar were a fine second favortie bunch in the dark days of the Dallas Green era.

Great collection of shots, and definitely some needed comic relief on a seriously dark day in Metdom.

      Indeed,Thanks!
A nice break from the wake!
Always a fan of the Big Unic!
A Yankee killer who then became a Yankee disapointment.
      Is there anything better?

  5. Mr North Jersey

OMG Who turned off the lights?

Sounds like the work of Gremlins to me.

    Did I miss anything today?

Nope. Nothing at all happened after I fed the Gremlins at 12:01am this morning. Absolutely nothing to mention.

Okay, is it time to start passing around the hat for a new server?

    1. metsfan4decades

Whew! Finally was able to sign in. Have to admit I was getting anxious. A day w/o my TRDMB is like a day w/o caffeine – unacceptable!

Pass the hat, I’ll gladly contribute if necessary!

        yup yup
