Minor Moves

While our server was down for the bulk of the business day (if you’re located in the Pacific time zone), in addition to Jason Bay’s press conference introducing him officially as a Met, Matt Holliday agreeing to a 7 year $120 million contract (with an option for an 8th year) with the St. Louis Cardinals, and news of Randy Johnson’s retirement from baseball, the Mets signed 6 players to minor league contracts and extended each of them invitations to spring training.

They are infielders Mike Hessman (which had been previously reported), Mike Cervenak, Russ Adams and Andy Green, pitcher R.A. Dickey (which had been previously reported) and outfielder Jesus Feliciano.  Since you may not get a long look at any of them, here are some pictures:

Once upon a time Russ Adams was supposed to be a big deal. He and Aaron Hill were hotshots for Toronto. At least Hill panned out.

It won’t surprise me terribly if Adams spends some noticeable time with the big club in sort of a LH Fernando Tatis role.

someone’s got to hit into the double plays.

So, if Delgado does come back, then Murphy would be the LH Tatis.

    Blanco
    Cora
    Murphy
    Pagan

My vote is for Endy. LH, plays great D, fan favorite and the drag bunt.

To me it needs to be a super utility guy. Someone who can play multiple positions. Not sure I trust Murphy to be the 3rd base backup not do I like the lack of pop on the bench.

I thought you liked murph for the super Joe role

If they send him to the minors to learn to be that Case, I am fine with that. He would have to work all spring training, and then about 50 games in the minors playing 3B, 2B, and OF. I think 1B we know he can pass at. So say counting ST if he could log 20 games at each?

I still like Hessman. No he’s not going to be a star but he has great pop and can stand at every position. He played 10 positions last year including pitcher and DH.
