Yes and at 6:55pm TRDMB has made it official Bay is a Met. Special thanks to DreamHost for making this possible I can honestly say we couldn’t of had done it without you.
OK so I have a couple of thoughts I’d like to express that have come to me throughout the day so before I forget let me get it out
Thought #1
Peter Gammons was on the Wfan for the 1st time in like forever and wasasked about the Castillo for Lowell trade and said he doesn’t see it because
1. Castillo has nowhere to play
2. The difference in money isn’t that much
3. He thinks Lowell’s trade value can actually be increased if he plays Spring Training games.
I have to agree with him also especially on the 1st 2 points.
Thought #2
Bob Ojeda in the studio said it best when he said he hears Omar says he is hoping rather than expecting when it comes to his starters behind Santana.
Ojeda said he expects Santana to pitch well but after that you have just don’t know what to expect. Yes there is hope but that can get you in trouble
if the rotation is left to just hoping.
I have to agree it seems that me and Grave have carried the torch that the rotation really is the priority and not a LF (not that signing Bay is a bad signing)
Minaya and Jeff have said they understand that the Fans want things done now but that patience is the way they will get things done. I think fans in the end
only care about results I know I have been very critical of Minaya and for me the jury is still out on him but if he addresses the rotation in a way that
adds that pitcher to pair up with Santana I will give him and Jeff all the accolades they deserve.
Like Ojeda said I hope that Pelfrey and Ollie and Maine will reach their potential but I don’t want to hope I want to expect. The way I expect Santana will be
the Ace of this staff and the way I expect Wright to be the leader and drive the ball the other way and up the middle and be one of the hardest guys in MLB to
strike out once he gets 2 strikes. The way I expect Reyes to come back and play 150 plus games and be a Gold Glove SS and lead the league in extra base hits and
stolen bases. The way I expect Beltran to be a Gold Glove CF and finally the way I expect KROD to be among the best closers in MLB IN 2010.
I want a Starter that I can say I expect him to be the two in the One,Two punch that our rotation needs.
Thought #3
Jason Bay during his interview with Francesa said he doesn’t consider himself a home-run hitter like a Ryan Howard or Adam Dunn but rather a doubles hitter and I have
to agree. If Bay doesn’t hit 30 homers in 2010 I would not be upset because I don’t expect him to. I do expect 20+ hr’s and 90+ rbi’s and I expect him to catch everything
he gets to.
Anyone else have trouble with the website today? I couldn’t sign on for the life of me.
Now, to your point number 2. I completely agree that this year is going to be a hope and prayer, with probably a trade upgrade for the starting rotation. Personally, I see this year as a hope and 2011 as the season the Met’s will be a powerhouse. It does have some assumptions, like Ike living up to 2/3 of his perceived potential & Thole shaping up to be decent behind the plate with his defense. With the amount of free agent pitchers of quality on the market (as well as position players), our players still in their primes (Reyes, Wright, Bay, K-Rod, Santana), our albatross contracts being 1 year till completion (Ollie & Castillo) making them easily dumpable/moveable… I have high hopes for 2011. 2010 can be good. There is more question marks this year in the starting rotation than I care to acknowledge, but I think the plan for some long term success looks good.
Maybe this brain-trust brought in to help Omar is actually helping? My optimism sunglasses are currently resting on my nose. aww. yeah.
Today of all days our site provider decided to have issues that seemed to have started minutes before Bay’s press conference and well decided to come back online at the end of the day.
Loved the comments Bay made about our lineup having a wealth of talent when healthy with arguably the best pitcher in baseball on the mound. How could it not be all good!
Hope to be awarding Bay many a ‘Man Up’ awards this season….
That article reminds me: remember Jose’s old 5th at bat of the game walk up song? “Chacaron” by El Chombo. If you get the opportunity to listen to it, I don’t know what they’re saying, but it’s hilarious.
hahaha – read that article earlier. Gotta love Jose. Nice to see the myth debunked about the line in sand in that clubhouse between the Latino players and non Latino’s. If MF would keep his mouth shut and stop stirring the pot on ‘problems in that Met clubhouse’ maybe we wouldn’t have to keep reading about it.
