The Trentonian often outdoes even the NY Post with headlines

And now today’s installment of Mets news that fell through our cracks, or something like that:

  • Joe D. of Mets Merized Online has an excellent post on Mets minor leaguers, PEDs and pyromania.  Well, two of those things anyway.
  • John Sickels of Minor League Ball released his Mets Top 20 Prospects for 2010 list today.  Sickels feels his own age in noting that the #16 prospect, LHP Juan Urbina, was born 5/31/1993, the week after Sickels received his masters degree.  On that day in Met history, Dallas Green’s Mets won 9-5 over the Chicago Cubs, led by 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief with 5 strikeouts from Center Moriches High School’s Paul Gibson, to up their record to 17-31, 16.5 games out of 1st place.  Good times man, good times.
  • I don’t have a link for this as I heard it with my own ears over the airwaves, but next Wednesday matinee idol David Wright will be a guest on the Mike’d Up! Francesa on the FAN radio show, 660AM on your dial, at approximately 2:30pm.  Since it’s old news they probably won’t discuss how Wright made $20 million when Vitamin Water was sold to Coca-Cola.  Speaking of Wright, he told Mark Hale of the NY Post that he expects to bounce back in 2010.  I would be confident too if I had made $20 million pitching Sugar Water, I mean Vitamin Water.
  • According to MLB.com’s Lisa Winston the Mets have claimed LH relief pitcher Jay Marshall off waivers from the Oakland A’s, so add his name to the potpourri of bullpen candidates.  Did you know that translated literally from French to English potpourri means “rotten pot?”  Me neither.
  • Juan C. Rodriguez of the Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that the Mets road series at the Florida Marlins June 28-30 may be moved to Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  Sun sentinel is definitely a job I wouldn’t want, too hot.

    LOL – ‘rotten pot’….

I see they added Jay Marshall to the 40 man roster. He’s #39 so only one more spot left for protection.

Sayonara Brett Myers! $5M sounds like a good deal to me. Let’s see how much Omar gives Pineiro.

MLBTR reports Endy Chavez willing to sign a Minor league deal….

Hmmm….talk about having depth ready for a ML club.

Besides sentimental value I don’t see much he could offer us at this point over a guy like Sullivan or Reed. His injury was severe and if it damaged his speed he is in trouble. I suspect the fact that he is willing to take a minor league deal to get a ST invite is a good sign that others are worried too.

I would not run and protest if he signed but I think we have more pressing needs on the bench.

move on from endy. find the next, not the last, for the bench.
