Smoking Blonde Puts Mets Out Of Their Misery
There was enough big news in Metsville today, here’s a look at some of the smaller news:
- The Mets have solved their starting pitching woes, signing LHP Bobby Livingston according to a tweet from mlb.com’s Mark Sheldon. In 2009 Livingston pitched for 2 AA and 3 AAA teams in 4 different organizations.
- Despite signing Livingston, some Mets fans think the team could use still another starting pitcher (me among them). Those Mets fans will probably be paying attention next Tuesday when Ben Sheets will throw for anyone who cares to watch at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
- MLB Buzz mavens Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports suggest the Mets have various levels of interest in Bengie Molina, Doug Davis and Yorvit Torrealba (surprise!).
- Florida Marlins Josh Johnson will be tormenting the Mets for at least 4 more years after agreeing to an extension with the team today for $39 million.

Josh Johnson for 4 years and $39m is the perfect example of why the Mets really need to start producing more players from its own system. Johnson probably gets 50% more, or more, per year on the open market and for another 3 seasons.
But I guess if the favorable contracts that they’ve enjoyed with Wright and Reyes didn’t get the message across…
