In Other News…1-15-10

"Honey, should I address this to Beltran or just the Mets in general?"

"Honey, should I address this to Beltran or just the Mets in general?"

And now Friday’s installment of tiny Met news:

  • The venerable Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse tweeted that the Mets have signed Jolbert Cabrera to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.  Don’t forget to RSVP Jolbert!  It probably is not a move designed to attract his brother Orlando to the Mets, but hey who knows?

“John Maine feels great. So why don’t I?”

Vintage Grave, and really, just about a perfect line for the short list of best Met slogans for the last few years….

Perfect. Short. Simple. Your 2010 Mets.

Thank you very much. Just curious, where in Tejas do you reside? My Dad grew up outside of McAllen on the Rio Grande so I spent alot of time when growing up every summer visiting the area. One Big A$$ State.

1/2 between Houston and Galveston. Was mucho fun during Ike.

And yes, everything is bigger in Tay-hass. The SUVs, the length of the commutes, the 1980′s jersey girl hair styles, the egos… but then again, a house costs 1/3 and the milk 1/2 what it is back there. Thank the good Lord for the MLB package.

You guys can’t imagine how much football they talk down here. High School football is actually a call in topic on the sports shows.

You can take the man out of Jersey, but you can’t take the Jersey out of the man…

I don’t have it in writing anywhere, and I don’t even have a DVR to rewind it and get an exact quote, so I’m not going to make a post about it, but:

Jon Heyman on MLB Hot Stove said roughly (not exact quote): “Word around baseball is, once Beltran comes back and proves he’s healthy, there may be a divorce between Beltran and the Mets.”

Mitch Williams then asked roughly (not exact quote): “Who’s going to take on that contract in a trade?”

Jon Heyman roughly (not exact quote): “Someone will, we’re talking when healthy about one of the best CF in baseball.”

not likely. Besides, heyman is a tool and Mitchy is a bumbling idiot. Not a good combination.

Besides, Boras is involved, so it is, will be, and always has been about the last buckeroo.

No reason for the Mets to trade him (if under pressure), and he has a NTC so Beltran controls the process.

So it ain’t happening, unless Carlos goes on an MVP pace, stays healthy, and says he will go anywhere and will require no compensation to waive his NTC>

will that last part happen? Well, see the comment about Boras being involved, and you decide!

hopefully in a couple of days, something new will pop up to occupy the blogsphere (Molina and Pinero most likely) and Carlos can go about getting helathy and ready for the seaosn.

Any team who takes Beltran in a trade also has to give him an extension its in his no trade claus ,so I think its safe to say he aint going nowhere and I for one hope he doesn’t – think Beltrans a 100% right in this.Minaya just keeps on proving what a bumbling fool he is ,he can’t let anything go bye, this situation was going away and he has to make things worse just keep your f—–g mouth shut omar you idiot.

Interesting concerning the Fangraphs article. Branyan would definitely be welcomed, for sure. What caught my eye was the love of Garko and trying to figure what the drop in price vs. the drop in production would equate to be. I do like that Garko would be under control for an extra year, so he could be the backup/pop off the bench type guy and possibly use Murph as trade bait. I must say while I do love me some Murphy, I’m not sure he’ll pan out to much greater than Magadan.

Oh, say it ain’t so, Carlos. Could anyone blame him though if he really felt that way?
I’ve read all accounts on this fiasco – Beltran’s statement, Boras’ account of it, and we heard first hand Ricco’s story. You know, the truth lies somewhere in the middle of all that. I’ve got my suspicions on just what that truth really is….

John Maine feels great…..No offense, I like Maine, but that quote means absolutely nothing to me anymore. If I’m not mistaken, it’s more or less the same thing he said when he arrived at ST last year. In fact, isn’t it just about what all of them said starting last year, with maybe the exception of Putz and Reading?

How many seasons have to go by before we can discuss the upcoming season w/o prefacing every statement with ‘if all are healthy we should’…….
I regularly read other teams blogs and other fans don’t even come close to discussing health, when discussing the upcoming year. Or if they do, it’s along the lines of ‘so and so had successful surgery in Oct., so he’ll be 100% and ready to start the season’. And they believe it.
    Wish I could….

Speaking of Maine, I see no arbitration required with him. He made 2.6 MIL last year and he accepted 3.3 MIL for 2010, with some incentives.

I’m curious to see what Feliciano gets.

    1. njstuckintx

You don’t happen to remember what the estimated increases with arb. was?

And I must say, I am slightly awed at the increase (+ incentives) to maine, based on performance and health.

      1. metsfan4decades

I believe the incentives totaled $225,000. That’s over and above the 3.3 MIL guaranteed. Not sure of just what those incentives are though…
