I’m not sure how I understand the Brewers @ 8 with Wolf, and Holliday & the Cards are #9 and Bay isn’t on the list… And granted the Nationals are making steps in the right direction, they signed an over the hill C, a #4 starter in Marquis, damaged goods in Capps and a relief pitcher in Bruney. I would think Bay + Escobar would be above that.

Ladies and Gentlemen, your New York Rodney Dangerfields.

    1. Mr North Jersey

I have to admit the Wolf signing being ahead of us signing Bay has me scratching my head.

      1. njstuckintx

And Baltimore at #4… They’re OK additions, but nothing amazing. I’d have to put the D-backs and Yanks ahead of them for sure.

        1. rustyjr

honestly guys should this shock us? with all the b.s thats been going on lately you have to expect this kind of fall out with heyman and douches of his ilk

oh jeez can someone shoot the great white rhino that is Marty Noble
this his answer if the Mets should bring back delgado
The club hardly has ignored Delgado to this point. And with Beltran’s power missing against right-handed pitching for at least a month — that’s my estimate — I would think the Mets have to reassess their need for Delgado. The team’s power output ought to improve against left-handed pitching with the addition of Jason Bay and with David Wright likely to produce at a level comparable to what he established before the 2009 season. But there are more right-handed starters than left-handed starters, so it would be an asset to have genuine power in the middle of the order while Beltran is rehabbing
while delgado is showing he can still hit in the p.r league- i just don’t know if he is a first baseman anymore – he is more dh than 1b now – to paraphrase obi wan kenobi
i’d hate to say it but i’d rather gamble on tatis than bring the cat back

    1. GravediggerHebner

      I am somewhat in agreement.

I don’t want Delgado back but I don’t want Tatis back either.

This isn’t entirely rational I know, and I don’t have stats and metrics to support my thought. It’s just that after the way ’07 & ’08 ended, and the horror of most of ’09, I want as much roster turnover as I can get. Not just “trade Wright” because he was on the team, not that much turnover, but I want new blood where I can get it and with Delgado & Tatis already “gone” those are two spots on the roster that can easily be turned over to new blood.

I know there are lots of reasonable arguments to bring either or both of them back: Delgado can potentially help with power, Tatis can help with his versatility. Both power and versatility are things the team needs. I just want to go another direction. So sue me.

      1. rustyjr

i admit i am grasping at straws when i suggest bringing tatis back – i feel his time has come and gone – but does anyone here really see omar bringing in a decent sub for beltran?

        1. GravediggerHebner

I don’t. But I’m not sure what qualifies as “a decent sub” for Beltran. Grady Sizemore?

I figure either the team does nothing at all related to Beltran and goes with Pagan (& possibly FMart) while Carlos is out, or maybe does something small along the lines of Cory Sullivan or Reed Johnson.

          1. Mr North Jersey

If only our GM could somehow think outside the box and fill all our holes on this roster. Especially since he is paid to do so.

I say we do what Minaya has never been afraid of doing and that is not be afraid to give a kid a shot. In regards to CF let’s fill the void from within I say.

          2. rustyjr

who other than pagan f-mart ? evans nueuenhaus ( sic)? i just reported that nady should be ready for spring training – he if healthy could be the cure that ails the mets

          3. Mr North Jersey

I have fond memories if Nady but only if he is willing to sign a minor league contract to come to spring training I am all for that.

          4. GravediggerHebner

I think that’s what they will do but I think the “kid” is Pagan. When Pagan inevitably gets hurt then will the organization have a Sullivan or Johnson on hand? Probably not, that’s when the “real kid” will get his shot (if he’s not hurt too).

This is hardly my original thought but last year the organization’s lack of depth was horribly overexposed and I still think the depth is lacking, disrespect to Cora and Coste intended.

          5. rustyjr

honestly even though coste stuck his foot in his mouth – it is a good signing cuz he can mentor thole
the logic of resigning cora on the other hand still bewilders me

          6. Mr North Jersey

Cora is a good signing as long as he is used as he was intended for and that is to be a backup 2nd baseman. He actually was good last year until the Mets started to ask too much of him and had him basically playing almost everyday.

          7. rustyjr

you get the same versatilty be signing whats his name – the 40 year old that was with the giants last year .

      2. Mr North Jersey

OK suing you seems worthy of a court show. Take your pick do you want to be on,
        The People’s Court
        Judge Judy
        Judge Joe Brown
        Judge Mathis
        Judge Mabeline Ephraim Show
        Judge Hatchett Show
        Judge Mills Lane Show
        Judge Maria Lopez Show
        Judge Alex Show

        1. rustyjr

peoples cout – judge millian is a MILF !!!

        2. GravediggerHebner

Most of those shows I haven’t seen and a few I haven’t even heard of, but of those I’ve seen I’d prefer Joe Brown – he seems tough but fair. A few years ago I had a job that afforded me the “luxury” of watching over-the-air television while at work so I didn’t have a lot to choose from and late afternoons were filled with Judge Joe Brown and that syndicated David Spade/Laura San Giacomo show.

          1. rustyjr

            mmmmmm Laura San Giacomo :P

          2. GravediggerHebner

She’s a Jersey Girl (sha la lala lala la la).

I expected more from her after Sex Lies & Videotape, little did I know that Andie MacDowell would have the arguably better movie career after that.

          3. rustyjr

well she has it where it counts lol

          4. Mr North Jersey

Off topic did any1 see Mariah Carey’s Golden Globes last night at the Golden Globes?

          5. rustyjr

hehehe nah i don’t watch such drivel – i was watching – wait for it – Iron Chef America after the jets game lol

          6. GravediggerHebner

I didn’t but it’s interesting what pics come up when you search the phrase “mariah carey golden globes.” ;-)

          7. Mr North Jersey

After the Jets game all I could do was listen to the wfan and watch Jets Postgame on SNY NFL Primetime on ESPN Mike’d Up at 11:30 and list online to San Diego sports talk radio xx sports somethin or other and read San Diego’s paper to read how shocked they were that the Jets were Lightnin proof yesterday. LoL

          8. rustyjr

yeah what was the fat mans reaction? eating humble pie along with the scenery?

          9. Mr North Jersey

He gave them credit but only after he pointed how lucky they were that Kaeding missed 3 field goals plus the miracle interception of Reeves and the non late hit call on Rivers just before the Reeves interception.

But he did give them credit lol.

here is a link of Mariah from last night.

    2. stickguy

Am I missing something? That actually sounds like a logical, reasonable, and polite response. Not the usual sarcastic twaddle.

Even if you don’t agree with it.

      1. rustyjr

i guess – he just rubs me the wrong way sometimes

  3. stickguy

one major flaw with this analysis.

It doesn’t seem to include inflow.

So the Red SOx get credit for the new guys, but not dinged for losing Bay. And of course, the same applies to other teams.

ANd wolf over Bay? Don’t think so.

    1. rustyjr

i still don’t get how baltimore ranks on this list millwood/ atkins? – 2 past their prime players thanks – the bay signing alone eclipses that imo hell the kelvim escobar signing negates those signings lol

    2. Mr North Jersey

In his article he does give credit for some teams ability to get rid of players also I believe. I just highlighted what teams added.

    3. prismo

      Agreed Stick.

The Phillies had to lose Lee to get Halladay…a slight upgrade.
They lost Feliz for Polanco, who only had slightly better stats than Feliz last season.
And they lost a bunch of relievers and got Baez so far…not even really an upgrade, just a change.

It’s the same team. Still a very good team, but basically the same team.

  4. Mr North Jersey

It is Heyman we are talking about so I am not that surprised that Wolf trumps Bay in his list.

    1. rustyjr

wolf is a decent third stringer at best – I mean he is a barely a cut above steve traschel lol

  5. gonzowill

Look at it this way, at least Sports Illustrated won’t pick the Mets to win it all in 2010.

  6. Kingman 26

LOL! I really just cannot see how so many people can take folks like Heyman seriously.

The Brewers signing Wolf is a better move than the Mets signing Bay? Hmmm, I wonder if the Mets had signed Wolf and the Brewers had signed Bay if Heyman would have had us 8th and the Brewers off the list?

    This is funny, not serious.

And hey, as Heyman said, Molina will be a Met by oh, when was it, Dec 5th?

    1. Mr North Jersey

I think most people if they have read Heyman enough know he doesn’t particularly hold Mets in high regards so like I said before I am not surprised we are not in his top 10.

It says more about him and how he views things as a writer for S.I. then it does which teams actually did well this off season.

While I still feel the Bay signing is a good signing my views on the Mets off season performance overall especially after that talk they gave after the season on Francesa’s show doesn’t give them high marks with me.
