According to “SI_JonHeyman:Â “#mets definitely like smoltz, especially as a tutor. actually, they might need a tutor as much as they need a pitcher.”
Heyman also adds the following:Â “fernando tatis will be rejoining the #mets, so carlos delgado will have to sign elsewhere. scouts see delgado as a dh.”

Bringing in Smoltz might not be that bad…and I definitely do prefer his name spelled Smotlz.

Ok so here some highlights from Omar Minaya on Hot Stove tonight with Kevin Burkhardt.
The bottom line is Minaya has full autonomy.
Minaya says Cora and Blanco make a good bench.
Minaya says having Pagan and Gmj is good.
Minaya says Blanco brings good defense.
Minaya feels Murphy will get better at 1st.
Minaya says our starters are still young.
Minaya says when you look at the way our starters pitched in 07 and 08 there is no big difference to what was available out there.
Minaya says Pelfrey has upside.
Minaya says a healthy Ollie has beaten good teams.
Minaya when asked if his team had too many if’s? He said every team has if’s.
Minaya says we have to start thinking that things will come out good for us.
Minaya says 2009 is the past.
Minaya says it’s hard to find centerfielders when referencing the GMJ trade.
Minaya tried his best to get Molina.
Minaya feels Blanco brings leadership.
Minaya said he would like Thole in AAA but like Pudge he had a hand in bringing him up from AA insinuating he would not be opposed to bringing Thole up.
Minaya says you got to give the kids a chance when talking about Murphy’s development.
Minaya is excited about Ike Davis says Ike will push their button.
Minaya says it will be 12 weeks before Beltran can do Baseball activities.
Minaya when asked how important is it to get off to a fast start said he is not changing the way he does his job to try and get out to a fast start.

Nothing earth shattering from Omar, but also reasonable stuff. basically saying sometimes you have to rely on the guys you have even if they had some injuries the year before. None of the problems were close to what say Sheets is trying to come back from.
Also, I got really aggravated listening to XM on the way home. Every update where they mentioned Tatis about to sign, they referred to him as a platoon partner for Murphy at 1B.
Did Omar ever say that (or were there any credible reports to this end?) I thought he was coming in for a bench/PH/ jack of all trades role. If they insist on having a true platoon, it shouldn’t be with Tatis.
although we are stuck with Jerry, so it doesn’t relaly matter what he is supposed to be for, I expect old fernando to start 5-6 games per week.

Burkhardt asked Omar some pretty pointed questions. Like the truth about the Beltran surgery.
He also came right out and asked him if he was worried about his job.
Omar said he knew about the surgery, Beltran told him, he knew he was having it the next day and the problem was with the ‘process’, not with Carlos.
Enough already…..
As far as is he worried about his job, and getting off to a fast start to same himself and Jerry, he said of course all teams want to get off to a good start and he’s not going to change the way he does business b/c he’s worried about his job.
Let’s hope that stubborness Omar is sticking with works out…..
