Well according to Baseball Prospectus PECOTAÂ is predicting our Mets to finish in fourth place again
here is how they are predicting the  N.L. East .
Philadelphia Phillies ( of course they will !) 88-74
Atlanta Braves ( bastards!)Â 85- 77
Washington Nationals ( WHAT THE !!) 82- 80
New York Mets ( been there done that ) 77 – 85
Florida Marlins   ( this would surprise me !) 76- 86
Â
If this ends up being true I think that Mr. Met will be dragged out and hung by rabid Mets fans like Mussolini .
Oh by the way the yanks are predicted to come in third !!
thanks for the tip Mets Blog !

these predictions are iffy at best, even for teams that were healthy, and all in their prime.
Total crapshoot for a team like the Mets though, with all the guys coming back from injury, and guys with recent history of performance swings.
I really doubt the Mets only win 77 games if they stay normally healthy. And interesting to see them predict the Phils for just 88 wins.
Nats in 3rd? Could happen. Don’t sleep onthem since they could be sneaky good if they stay helathy, and some of the young pitchers mature quickly!

I’m more surprised at the Nats and Marlins than I am the Mets..

I said it on the last thread. That’s the fun of being a fan. Baseball isn’t played on paper and often those ‘paper predictions’ don’t translate to the season.

As I noted when gategem pointed this out in another thread, I would like to remember to look back on this in October and see how well or poorly it worked out.
I would add that I would love to look back at their last 5 or 10 years worth of predictions and see how those came out before praising or panning this.

thing is you can’t predict injuries. Ask the 09 WS Championship Mets.

If you’re intimating that all these projections are just so much mental masturbation then I agree, and pass the lotion.

Just a question of credibility, where were the Mets picked to do in 2009 by this “PECOTA”?
