Bobby Bo Won’t Go !!

Well it’s official, The Mets will still be paying Bobby Bonillia long after I have died.
According to our friend John Fennelly , of Bleacher Report.com-is reporting that one of the Mets biggest busts from the last twenty years – Bobby Bonilla , will be collecting a paycheck from the Mets until the year 2035 when he turns 72 years old.

The Mets  wanted to get rid of Bonilla so badly, they agreed to a mind numbingly stupid 25-year deferred deal that starts in 2010 and does not end until 2035, when Bonilla is 72-years-old. Bonillia last played with the Mets in ’99 . So in essence Bobby will be the most expensive Mets contract ever to be doled out !!  So I guess thats what he meant by trying to wipe the smile off his face . To quote Joe Benigno – ” OHHH THE PAIN!!!!”

To me any mention of Bobby Bo will always evoke the whole “Make your move” thing with Klapisch.

what were we thinking? bobby bo was only effective because he had bonds batting behind him – hence taking all the pressure off of him

His first time around with the Mets he was fine, he just didn’t play enough games. I can’t just blame him for that era Mets team’s failures.

Why the hell they ever brought him back in ’99 is beyond me and why they were so cheap and stupid as to put off paying him $6 mil then to wind up giving him like $30 mil now is the same economics brilliance at work that thought Madoff’s absurdly big return on investments was normal and would go on forever.

It makes you wonder how they became so wealthy in the first place. But there was a time when almost everyone that went into real estate saw their investments flower. I remember reading that Bob Hope’s money manager invested Hope’s money in real estate. One day Hope found that he owned the San Fernando Valley. I think Hope was part owner of the Cleveland Indians. He was also the wealthiest man in Hollywood.

In ’99 Bonilla went on a decent DL stint. A couple buddies and I got on field level seats behind third for his first game back from that stint. In his first at bat we were booing the crap out of the guy and he hit a ball into the right Mez just missing the pole and went foul. We started to boo even louder. Two pitches later he crushes the ball into the scoreboard, and we go crazy booing. As soon as he crossed home he was looking dead into our eyes walking into our direction. We kept booing for about ten more steps and then we just stopped. The guy was focused on us and the disdain in his eyes was incredible. We were never ones to stop antagonizing anyone especially feeling threatened but he was going to kill us and that look was the final warning. Where ever you are Bobby Bo you won and we pussed out.

Great story, my friend Nicky once rode Steve Garvey so hard he almost got to get Mr. Cool to charge the stands on the way to the dugout. I guess yelling lewd comments about Cindy while he was going through his divorce would do that. Garvey struck out.

That is a very good story.

So, no more Endy reunion. Would have been sentimental, but glad he isn’t back.
