Dare I say cross country skiing makes more compelling television than ESPN baseball analysis.

    1. Mr North Jersey

LoL I’m so happy to just see baseball talk that I’m willing to watch if only to see something other than snow.

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

        Me too!

      2. GravediggerHebner

I hear you and I actually tuned in only to find a discussion of Derek Jeter that is still ongoing so back to Canadian snow for me!

        1. Mr North Jersey

LOL, A look at Carl Crawford coming up but if you saw last night’s Sportscenter special and BBTN you may just see the same footage all over again.

On that note I am surprised no one has really talked about Valentine last night and his views on instant replay and his idea that rosters should be expanded the 1st month of the season.

          1. GravediggerHebner

I don’t like ESPN and try to watch it as little as possible while still keeping up with the sports world, yet now I’ve seen all or part of this Crawford/Olney thing 3 times! They repeat themselves quite a bit.

I can’t comment on Valentine’s appearance because the other panelists on the show forced me to tune elsewhere quickly. If only he were on MLB network where I don’t dislike the majority of their panelists. The one moment before I tuned away I recall him differing with all the rest of them on something but I can’t remember what it was. I think maybe on Tampa Bay adding at the trade deadline when all the rest of the guys seemed convinced only subtracting made sense for the Rays.

          2. Mr North Jersey

Felipe Lopez on phone talking about why he still a free agent.

Says there are rumors about him and if teams have any doubts they should just go to him to find out if there is any truth to them but then when asked what are the rumors said he did not know and asked ESPN to tell him.

          3. Mr North Jersey

Minaya is calling as we type. Bring on the Lopez rumors lol.

          4. GravediggerHebner

So have they done this “3 up 3 down” thing?

          5. Mr North Jersey

            ???

The 3up 3 down is the link up top.

          6. GravediggerHebner

Aha. I mistakenly put the post headline and the photo caption together and thought the TV show as doing this at 3:30, but luckily I was watching the Olympics anyway and counting on ESPN’s endless repetition or some commentary here to fill me in.

i just got this from bleacher report.com and i fired off a kind yet angry missive to them
When I search “New York Mets” these days on the internet, I see a whopping increase in stories outlining the inexplicable ineptitude of New York’s second best baseball club.

I also see a glut of blogs and websites dedicated to lamenting on the travels and travails of this comically dysfunctional organization. It’s unreal the amount of effort that is going into these things.

I thought I was the king of Met negativity, but these sites make me look like Cow Bell Man.

    Check these out:

MetsFail, MetsPolice, OhMurph, Metstradamus, Archie Bunker’s Army, Faith and Fear in Flushing, Real Dirty Mets Blog, it goes on and on.
i said it was unfair to lump us in with some of the other blogs because the majority of writers here have mostly positive things to say about our favorite franchise

    1. rustyjr

btw heres the link feel free to post a comment to defend us

    2. trs86

I was hot as well. For one part I appreciate the publicity but that is garbage. We run the entire circle with Mets opinions on here. If anything, my biased opinion feels that we are one of the most rational Mets blogs.

      1. rustyjr

and thats what i wrote – i don’t know if he will post my column but i tried and i encouraged him to respond here

        1. Mr North Jersey

The question will be is what is he basing his opinions on?

He says he thought he was Mr Negativity so then what has been said here that is so drastically different than any opinion he may have expressed in past articles?

Personally I don’t read him so I don’t know but I’d be interested in knowing what brought him to come to the conclusion he did.

        2. GravediggerHebner

I read his article and since he didn’t link to any of the blogs in question or provide any supporting evidence at all I can only guess what his method was. One wild guess was he did a search for Mets blogs and picked some that had names that could be interpreted as negative. Either that or the precise moment in time he visited the various sites, ours included, they happened to have had a negative post on the front page and he felt that was all that was needed to sum up our collective ethos. Either way, shoddy.

          1. rustyjr

            agreed

          2. Mr North Jersey

Great observation Grave after you said that I looked at the blogs he mentioned and yes if you never visited the site and merely read the blog names I can see how you may interpret Real Dirty Mets Blog as negative. Yet if he is speculating merely on a site name hasn’t he broken one of the rules of jounalism?

          3. rustyjr

well he like us writes for a blog hensce neither he or us are real journalists lol
eventhough i went to journalism school

          4. GravediggerHebner

Is that don’t judge a book by it’s real dirty cover? :-)

          5. rustyjr

more like our blog is worse than its bite

          6. rustyjr

he still hasnt responded or posted my comments – damn moderation b.s

    1. Kingman 26

This is just WAY too moronic to even comment on.

Obviously, he is judging our blog by the fact that the word “Dirty” is in its name, as he must be judging Prince’s because it has the word “Fear.”

In all seriousness, I don’t go around the other blogs too much…sure some are good, but when I read the article Mr North linked to at Kranepool Society, I nearly vomited, it was SO moronic, so poorly written, and just so competely unworthy of being read even by the author’s parents.

Rusty, that story has zero comments, and I would say that it deserves zero.

      1. Mr North Jersey

Moronic? Tell us what you really think. :-)

Tell me is that because of one or all of the following?

“I never thought it could happen but the Wilpon’s have now displaced the Dolan’s of MSG as the worst owners of a NYC franchise.”

“I’m starting to think the demolition of Shea Stadium will become our Curse of the Bambino, or Billy Goat.”

“Jeff Wilpon has not only surpassed Jim Dolan as the most spoil son of a rich man in NY sports but he is close to reaching M. Donald Grant status as a franchise killer”

“If Fred Wilpon does not step up and do what is right for the NY Mets franchise, he will become as hated here as much as Walter O’Malley.”

        http://www.kranepoolsociety.com/2010/02/07/deliver-us-from-evil-fred-wilpon/

Just asking to better understand what your referring to.

        1. Kingman 26

“I never thought it could happen but the Wilpon’s have now displaced the Dolan’s of MSG as the worst owners of a NYC franchise.”–With all due respect, if you do not see this as the statement of an ignorant child, I really don’t want to bother to explain it. Look at the Knicks for the last decade. Have they even competed? Again, despite the horrors of the end of 2007 and 2008, the Mets were in or very near first place every day in 2006, 2007, 2008, and the first half of 2009. The Knicks have not been near first since WAY before Omar took over.

“Jeff Wilpon has not only surpassed Jim Dolan as the most spoil son of a rich man in NY sports but he is close to reaching M. Donald Grant status as a franchise killer”–This is also too moronic to comment on, but please read Met history from the 1970s. M Donald, on behalf of TRULY cheap owners, traded players to save money. The Wilpons have one of the highest payrolls every year, and sign a huge big money player every year.

“If Fred Wilpon does not step up and do what is right for the NY Mets franchise, he will become as hated here as much as Walter O’Malley.”–Again too moronic to deserve comment. O’Malley moved his team 3000 miles away. Fred Wilpon annually has one of the game’s highest payrolls. How can you not see how idiotic this is? Not to mention the horror of the way this guy mangles English! “he will become as hated here as much as”?????

“John McGraw and Mel Ott and Carl Hubble to Bobby Thomson and Willie Mays along with Zack Wheat and Joe Medwick and Dolph Camli and Jackie Ribinson and Duke Synder”–FIVE of these ten names are spelled wrong. Jackie Ribinson? Duke Synder?

“NYC was always an NL town until now that the Wilpons let that distinction slip away and for that they should be ashamed of themselves.” NYC was always an NL town? The Yankees have had internationally known superstars and title teams EVERY decade since the 1920s, with the exception of the 1980s. The Wilpons changed it into an AL town? False and beyond idiotic.

“Where and when did this all go wrong?” Where and when did WHAT go wrong? Yeah, I want another title as much as any other adult, but again, barring the second half of 2009, we have been VERY competitive and tried to improve the team every year. We ARE NOT the Royals or Pirates or Orioles here.

“But after one season at $tit, the cry is, “the outfield fence is too high” “the ball doesn’t carry” “the fences need to come in” what we’re really saying is “this place sucks, we want our Shea Stadium back.” Have many people said any of this? And what the hell is “$tit”?

          ——————————————

Even if nobody reads my pieces, I have the respect for the game, for you and my fellow authors on this site, for reality and truth, and for humanity to spell things correctly and not make completely moronically wrong assertions.

I generally read your pieces, and if you had read mine Saturday, I tried to explain myself in the less obnoxious and more polite manner that I try to employ when I write pieces for this site.

Mr North, I like and respect you, and I think you bring a lot to this site. But when someone compares a Wilpon to M Donald Grant, you just do not know Met history if this statement does not make you laugh your ass off. It is THAT stupid. And more.

The same day I looked at some other posts there, and one was filled with foul profanity…now I spew profanity in my office all day and have no problem with it, but it does not belong on a Met site which kids read. And one article’s title misspelled the word “ankle.”

The Kranepool Society is not fit to use Eddie K’s name, and is a classic example of garbage that really does not need to be spread around.

          1. Mr North Jersey

            :-)

I wasn’t expecting you to exhaust your time in replying to my comment with such a long response.

I feel bad that you felt the need to write so much.

I don’t agree with the article King. I understand that the guy is exaggerating (to put it nicely) especially the franchise killer remark and the Dolan remarks.

What I find curious is how strongly you feel regarding this article.

I don’t say your wrong to feel the way you do I just don’t understand the why. (Well now I do) :-)

I read the article as a frustrated Mets fan venting not really meaning what he is saying but the anger has gotten the better of him.

I mean “franchise killer” right there I was like ok this guy is pissed.

The spelling I don’t critique cause I am just as bad and I am too lazy to fix it at times. Even when MC’s spelling is ripped I feel uneasy about it and only because he got the sponsorship by the Mets do I call out his spelling at times since he clearly is part of the media now imo.

I don’t know I wish I could put my finger on it but something about you feeling the need to go so far as to say it was unworthy of the authors parents. Made me have to ask what made you react so strongly.

I appreciate your kind words you know all of us here are passionate Mets fans and yes we can get a lil crazy but I’m proud how we always can at worst agree to disagree and move on without resorting to ugly name calling like i see in many other blogs.

No one for the most part has ever been ridiculed and even if they did say something that was uncalled for always apologized when they realized they did.

I mean I’m pretty sure you never called anyone that is a member on this blog a moron and if you did I’d be shocked if an apology didn’t soon follow.

Maybe that is why I felt the need to ask because maybe I am just not accustomed to that being done amongst each other regardless of our opinions?

Food for thought I guess. :-)

On to the next discussion :-P

          2. Kingman 26

Mr North, sometimes after a debate like this it is I who feel like the moron.

Stuff like this makes me question my participation in all of this.

I don’t think I have ever called anyone here a moron, and I most definitely have apologized to Case, Grave, Fong, Prismo, Jaydh, Metro, and you for acting/writing emotionally before thinking twice.

As I used to say on Metsblog, some of this brings out the worst in me.

I think sometimes I come across as an angry person, when that is really the complete opposite of what I am.

Reading stuff like that Kranepool piece angers me I guess, because I love the Mets, and even through the bad years they have (except for 1993) given me enjoyment and enhanced my life. Even this year, with the Nets having one of the worst seasons of any US pro sports team ever, I have enjoyed watching two of their wins tremendously–especially the one against the Knicks! I am a glass half-full guy.

So, when the Kranepool guy, amidst his sea of misspelled words, terrible grammar, and excessive use of apostrophes, calls the Wilpons the worst, compares them to M Donald Grant, and says they will be hated like O’Malley, when they spend among the most in the game every year, and bring us a huge new big-time player every year, I guess it makes me wonder why people are so filled with misplaced anger and ignorance.

Honestly, it almost makes me long for the days a few years ago when I just read the Star Ledger sports section, watched the games, and discussed them with my dad and bro and friends and did not expose myself to the sea of negativity that washes over me as a result of being on first Metsblog and now here every day.

          3. stickguy

I still Luv Ya big guy.

But yeah, the nets are really, historically bad.

          4. Kingman 26

Right back at ya Stick….your reason and rationale and optimism are often the best thing about TRDMB’s comments page.

The Nets will have a top lottery pick and at least one big FA, so I do look for serious improvement next year.

          5. Hazmet

Except when Lou Carnesca was coach and some guy Dr. J was lighting up Nassau Col.

Man I feel old typing that.

            Night all.

          6. Mr North Jersey

Even without ever having met I can say you are definitely far from a moron. Now “Passionate” that you definitely are. :-)

When you think about it many of you go back for some years now sharing opinions thoughts having heated debates and yet here many still are today still reading what transpires everyday with the team we all love but even more you guys have made this blog like your local pub where you break away from time to time to catch up with the guys (and ladies) about what else? Baseball… Mets Baseball.

It’s pretty cool if you allow it to sink in. In the midst of all our daily lives we pause to see what does TRS have to say about Minaya signing Jacobs or wonder what Fongy will say now regarding the latest Mets blunder or wondering what Rusty has in store today for his Infamy posts.

Every single member still here reading and writing back and forth with the same people for years in some cases. A TRDMB Community.

Not many blogs can make the same claim.

Your participation in all this should never be questioned. Especially not over what you read on another blog.

I recently said that regardless of how some may feel about my views on Minaya I have to be true to myself and all you was doing is being true to yourself with your thoughts on the article.

It’s about the community. TRS, Dirty, MRose, Prismo, Grave, Case, Stick, 4D, Fongy, You and everyone else.

I’m rambling again sometimes I just love to hear myself talk :-)

Just be sure not to keep thinking about why your here ok? Your here because we all enjoy your company and wouldn’t want it any other way.

          7. rustyjr

            no love for rustyjr?

          8. trs86

            Your love is implied.

  3. Mr North Jersey

“thought I was the king of Met negativity, but these sites make me look like Cow Bell Man.”

A rather big leap to take if he is solely basing it on site names.

    1. rustyjr

      what a douche

  4. stickguy

Geez, lot’s of panties in the proverbial bunch while I was gone!

I now it might seem like authorly duty, but if you know it is nonsense, stay away.

Anyway, to the post at hand, good news! He has the Mets as winning the division (well, at least the off season crown).

Mets are +1 (1 up, none down).
Phils are zero (1 up, 1 down)
    Braves are -1 (1 up, 2 down)
Nats and Marlins did nothing worth while (or with the marlins, nothing) so they are at zero.

    Mets in the lead, baby!

How come when other teams do nothing or stand pat, it is OK< but when the Mets do it, it is considered going backwards? I can see staying the same, but not regressing.

    1. Kingman 26

Hey, we signed Jason Bay, and it is as if we traded Seaver and Kingman for nothing!

      1. stickguy

I honestly have no idea who we got for Kingman.

But, to be fair, MDG did get back the previoius ROY and a guy that should have won the curent ROY (didn’t Hendu finish 2nd?) so, while the trade itself might have been misguided, he didn’t actually get table scraps back.

I seem to recall Zachry was having a very good 1978 season until he (being a met and all) kicked something in the dugout and broke something in his foot.

        1. Kingman 26

Hendu lost to Andre Dawson by one vote, and I still am a bit sore about that! Zachry was indeed good, but I believe kicked the dugout steps and got hurt and was never quite the same. Doug Flynn was a poor hitter but a great second baseman and won a rare Mets’ late 70s/early 80s Gold Glove. Dan Norman was never any good, but did used to blow bubbles with his gum while catching flies in the OF. During games.

For Kingman, we got Paul Siebert, a mediocre reliever and—–Bobby Valentine! The often injured, soon-to-be-retired Bobby V.

And, to help complete this circle of shame, in 1981 we traded Steve Henderson to the Cubs for——-Dave Kingman!

    2. Hazmet

On the plus side Bobby V was great last night on their special. You could see he’s still got Blue & Orange in his system. His player selection for breakout season was Mr. Reyes. His baseball knowledge is so in another level then the rest of the clowns there I almost sensed frustration with his having to explain certain things. Like his take on “no names/longshots” chances of changing opinions in Spring Training. Basically, stating no because you know who your guys are and once they get there AB’s & IP’s the other guys come in and are basically facing AA players so there’s not much there to learn. It was some great tension there since he was sitting next to Eduardo Perez who made his career as a Spring Training “revelation”. Also did some great critique of the Cards & McGuire as hitting coach.

      1. Hazmet

Woops, just read the whole thread, think I’m in the wrong spot. Looooonnnnngggg Day.

      2. GravediggerHebner

Oh OK I knew someone had commented here last night about his appearance I’m guessing that was you.

I am going to have to learn to allow my like of Bobby V to make me watch him on their shows instead of my dislike of every body else on their panels making me not watch them, I’m sure I would enjoy him crushing them like they deserve but I find the rest of the cast offers me so little that it’s difficult to sit through, I just grow more and more frustrated listening to them pander inanely.

        1. Hazmet

Yep, dat was me. It is indeed difficult to watch. Luckily, I was able to switch over to watch the last episode of Deadwood in parallel.

          1. GravediggerHebner

Deadwood I bet was much more entertaining, informative and historically accurate than ESPN.

          2. stickguy

ESPN is still on the air? Wow.

Next thing you are going to tell me is Francesca is still on the air.
