Citi Field Outfield Walls Should Stay Black

I don’t know why, but some people just can’t let it go. Matthew Cerrone of Mets Blog infamy, has proof that making the Citi Field outfield walls blue “is the right move”.  What is this amazing piece of evidence that Cerrone has unearthed through some incredible piece of journalistic investigation and no doubt he was only privy to because of his SNY affiliation?

This youtube video of a MLB 09: The Show simulation found by Mets Police.

Amazing! Of course, this isn’t the first time Cerrone has delved into the world of stadium interior design. Last November, he graced us with this opinion, “if I could make one change to Citi Field, not involving the talent on the field, it would be to change the color of the outfield wall and Bridge from Soot to Blue.”

Now that I’ve had my fun at Cerrone’s expense, here’s some questions for you. Why is it important for the Mets to change the color of the outfield wall? Why do the Mets hate the fans so much that they won’t give them a blue outfield wall?  Why do the Mets and the fans have a love-hate relationship?
I wonder if having a black outfield wall makes it easier for the hitters to pick up the ball. Other than that, I really don’t see a reason why the wall is black, other than the Mets don’t think the color of the wall is important.

    Excuse my mobile typingg here..

It is black , and will be in MLB the show ’10 because it’s meant to be similar to the polo grounds look. Original rendering had. Blue walls, hence the gAme created prior to citi field opening had blue walls (and green around the apple)

I like the walls As is. Blue doesn’t look right in that layout. It’s as silly as complaining about no orange seats. Trivial, at best. Shannon is into that stuff, which is fine, even if he’s so against black with the mets uniforms and color scheme it bordErs on insanity.

I am not privy to the Mets organization’s motivations but I always thought the black and orange scheme of Citi Field was an homage to the other team involved in their “birth” the old New York Giants. So many criticize the Mets for their endless love of the Brooklyn Dodgers yet no one (that I noticed) in criticizing the stadium paint scheme ever brought up or seemed offended by the possibility that it might relate to the NY baseball Giants.

Harder to criticize. It was the Mets first home, so that might mean it was honoring mets history…

Having now watched the video I have two thoughts:

    1. The blue wall looks really awkward and out of place in that video, given that so much of the rest of the park is not blue it just stands out to my eye in a really bad way;

    2. So that’s what a Citi Field second deck David Wright home run looks like :-)

      ouch…

shows you how realistic the game is. Everyone knows DW’s power is to right center.

Oh the Cerrone hate is still strong, LOL. Ya know I wouldn’t mind the blue instead of black.

I’ve always been one to side with the Mets with explaining the history of Baseball in the area and not just Mets history and would of rather seen them name the stadium after JR. The black walls have never jived with me. Not because of a “thats the NY Giants Color” but because it added to the sterile and commercial nature of the stadium. Still haven’t been to see them since ’07 so I don’t have a opinion of how the stadium feels except from TV, but hopefully them adding the Mets museum will give the fans what they want.

The whole thing is just dopey!….I remember when the walls @Shea
were green!….Why does anyone really care about this???

  8. rustyjr

honestly – who cares what color the damn wall is as long as the team wins !!

  9. metsfan4decades

Blue, black….makes no never mind to me.
Now if they were pink we’d all have something to complain about.

    1. rustyjr

wow mf4d – how unfeminine of you lol

      1. metsfan4decades

hahaha – well, you know – pink just conjures up ‘pink panties’ which equates to weak so in that respect, I never want to see pink. It’s a man’s game and I want to see everything manly that goes along with that.

I comfortable enough in my gender to say MLB should never become ‘gender friendly’. I always want to see the big boys playing….

        1. rustyjr

i think dave pallone and billy beane liked wearing pink panties lol

Oh that Matty and his army of Rod Kanehl Bloggers. As his Fan Confidence Rating graph has shot from 11% to 17%.

put me down in the category of not caring what color the wall is. Change it every home stand for all I care.

And I have no problem with anyone that has a preference, just the ones that make it into some personal war or vendetta against the wilpons and the team.

      well said

Blue, Blue, Blue – the Mets colors are Blue and Orange… The Giants are in San Francisco. The Dodgers are in LA. We want this to be a METS park. That means blue walls.
