“I also realize that I have excluded Carlos Beltran, but that is what I do to players that are often injured….I pretend that they do not exist.â€
In 5 season with the Mets the most games Beltran could possibly play in if he never missed a game is 810.
He has actually played in a total of 677.
That is 133 less games that averaged over 5 seasons comes out to 26.6 games a season he has missed
I don’t know about you but 135.4 games played seems reasonable especially when 81 of those 133 games he missed came in one season 2009.
In fact before 2009 Beltran in 4 years had only missed a total of 52 games that over 4 years came out to 13 games a season that he missed or 149 games played a season whatever suits you best.
If your going to do a blog a word of advice if you want to be credible be sure you can back up your comments like “often injuredâ€.
William Miller Says:

I think Dave’s point is that, coming off of a serious knee injury as he heads into his age 33 season, Beltran’s future production level at this point is anyone’s guess. Therefore, slotting him into a hypothetical lineup slot serves no purpose at this time. Obviously, if he turns out to be healthy, that will be a big boost to the Mets chances.
Mr North Jersey Says:

I think Dave’s point is he was insinuating Beltran has been often injured (past tense).
Let’s not try to throw a lifeline and be man enough to own your comments.

“Be man enough to own your own comments.†(?!) I was trying to be civilized here, but I guess people from North Jersey don’t understand that, so… Stop being such an asshole and get a life, dip-shit. It figures you’re from North Jersey, more assholes per square inch than exist in the rest of the Continental U.S. combined. I’m surprised I was even able to decipher your sentences. Moron.
To be perfectly honest I don’t understand what your second line (about lifelines and owning comments) means but I don’t take it as an insult and it’s certainly not an expletive laden name calling tirade like Mr. Miller then resorts to.
Ah well, + 1 to TRS for his instincts on that link in the roll.
It’s so predictable yet still disappointing when people resort to name calling safe in the relative anonymity (screen name being a real name or not) of the internet.
I had left a really long point-by-point reply to that post there then after re-reading it I thought “this isn’t worth the effort I just put into this” so I deleted it before posting.
The lifeline thing was what I felt was Miller’s attempt to try and find an out for the often injured remark by Dave and the owning your comments line was if he (dave) said something then let him be man enough to stand by it (or own it) and rebut himself.
Gotcha. In my opinion still not a comment that required an insulting expletive filled response.
I guess I’m too old to understand both why David Wright is overrated and why it’s perfectly acceptable and normal to be a rude insulting potty mouthed commenter on a blog.
Nothing you could have said would have avoided such a “high brow” rebuttal offered up by Mr. Miller. Obviously, he’s also never been to N. Jersey. Maybe you should send him some of the property values and such of some of the wealthiest townships in the country. What a douche. Oh excuse me, maybe I’ll hold my pinky out and type a more sophisticated le douche.
From another perspective, if you can’t slot him in at this point at the beginning of the season then slot him in like he’s a mid season pickup. Hello, little bit of a scary addition to Met foes when you look at it that way. I get his point but what’s the purpose of trying to crawl into someone else’s head as per their comment and try to assume a defense of their position. That I don’t get.
I didn’t see anything insulting with your trying to educate this dude. And IMO, your comment was completely civilized. Now Miller on the other hand…well, he ought to practice what he preaches.
It’s pure ignorance from the start. From the name all the way to this idiotic post.
This line says it all:
“I have already written about my displeasure in the Mets’ decision to not move Carlos Beltran this off-season.”
What stupidity. How exactly were the Mets supposed to do that? Who was going to trade for an injured Beltran owed 20M without the Mets taking a large chuck of salary and getting nothing in return prospect wise. That shows you the guy knows nothing about baseball. Most likely he also showed displeasure that we did not sign Holliday, Lackey and trade Murphy and Holt for Halladay.
to be fair, as is often the case, if you can cut through the BS and posturing, there is a valid point at the bottom.
in this case, we know the Beltran will not be able to start the season. And he did have a significant injury last year, and is rehabbing from surgery 9and lord knows, the Mets have had issues with that recently!)
So it is reasonable to say you are putting together a line up without him to start the season, and that worse case scenerio is he doesn’t come back early (or I guess even at all).
But it is just silly to say he doesn’t exist, and to not put together alternatives assuming he comes back on schedule.
And getting personally abusive seemed a bit over the top for that “debate”
