Tim Marchman at SI ranked all of the general managers.

I was going to paste what he said about Omar but how about people reply with their guess on Omar before peeking?

    1. GravediggerHebner

      29th?

      1. GravediggerHebner

Whoops. Using exclusively FanGraphs logic I just assumed Omar 29th and the Royals guy 30th. I (or they) was half right.

      26. Omar Minaya, New York Mets

“Here we start moving into the territory of those few general managers who might be said to actively harm their team’s chances…..”

      LOL!

I’m not much of Omar fan, but I don’t know about this ranking… you have Pirates GM ranked 1 below Ruben Amaro and ahead of Omar.

For Jim Hendry (#16) of the Cubs he says “It’s tempting to overreact to a lousy 2009 and to heavily count bad contracts doled out to players such as Alfonso Soriano and Milton Bradley against Hendry…..” and he says that the Cubs have been consistently successful and can compete for WS every year prior to ’09 season… blah blah blah..And he ranks Ruben Amaro at #19.

So the Mets haven’t been a consistently competitive team prior to ’09 season…? I’m sorry, but I think Soriano and Bradley signings are far worse than Castillo and Ollie signings.

      1. saltygary

Yea absolutely agree on that. Omar’s done a better job than that guy.

        1. fongy2

Even I agree with that! :)

    4. Kingman 26

      More moronic, mendacious, meaningless drivel.

The team is imploding on his watch? The real question here is which is more pathetic, that SI would print this, or that one sentient being would take it seriously.

      1. metsfan4decades

Well, after SI predicting the Mets winning the WS last year, hard to take their analysis seriously – LOL….

        1. Kingman 26

          OUCH!!

          :-)

  2. Mr North Jersey

Una Pela y a la misma vez una salsa. :-)

    1. DNDJohan aka kistics

Salsa? I like Salsa and Chips

      1. GravediggerHebner

I had salsa, chips and 6 Newcastle Browns this afternoon while watching the game so I apologize for drunken typing but Whooooooooo!

        1. DNDJohan aka kistics

          sniff.. sniff…

        2. saltygary

Jealous but I’ll be able to start soon. The nice thing is it’s getting warm enough at night to go into the hot tub.

Nice choice of beers, definitely one of my favorites. Have some Sierra Nevada Torpedo’s waiting at home.

          1. njstuckintx

The torpedos are some good stuff.

Fat Tire has their seasonal pale ale. my all time fav. Mighty Arrow Ale. If you like the hops, check it out.

        3. Kingman 26

6 Newcastles while I was working!!

          Nice work my friend!!

    2. saltygary

No knowing Spanish I put it through one of those online translators

“An it Peels and to the same time a sauce”

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

        That’s some deeps stuff man…

      2. GravediggerHebner

        Yeah google gives me this:

a fight and at the same time a sauce

        1. DNDJohan aka kistics

So… Mr. NNJ, what the heck does that mean?

          1. Mr North Jersey

Sorry a pela is like saying a whooping and a salsa is another way of saying the same thing. Think of salsa like someone saying they just wiped the floor with you.

  3. saltygary

Looks like GMJ had a productive day. And watch out for Dickey, he’s on fire.

    1. fongy2

      They sell ointment for that!!!

      1. saltygary

        LOL

  4. GravediggerHebner

I realize it’s just a meaningless spring training game but 7 for 17 with runners in scoring position is nice nonetheless.

    1. DNDJohan aka kistics

      talk about CLUTCH!

      1. wannybackstra

        these guys are bums!

    2. fongy2

Wait!!!….I thought the Pitchers were way ahead of
the hitters at this point in Spring????

      1. Kingman 26

        Not OUR hitters!!

        :-)

        1. ceetar

          nor our pitchers apparently.

          1. Kingman 26

Well, personally I think the Dickey singing was the worst of the offseason and I pray he does not make the team. I also think Green is pretty awful, so, frankly, these guys doing badly in March might help once the real games start.

          2. ceetar

I want whoever is good to make the team, whoeve rthat happens to be. I don’t car which ones figure it out.

          3. Kingman 26

            Agreed….check out Dickey’s stats sometime….

            Need more?

He makes Figgy look like Gooden in 1985.

          4. ceetar

No question. (f*ck, that’s a Manuel phrase..now I need to wash my mouth out with beer)

But there is always that possibility that he learns how to Harness the Terrible power of the KNUCKLEBALL, takes a step forward, and makes the past irrelevant.

Of course, that’s a terrible terrible long shot. And not looking likely. but if he doesn’t let up another run the rest of spring? Can steal us 2-3 wins or something? hey, you nver know.

          5. gategem

The movement on a knuckleball is directly impacted by the elements and with the strong wind today I will give Dickey a pass.

All POPPs claim that Dickey and Green will be major contributors to the successful Mets drive for a World Championship this year. :)

          6. Kingman 26

Let me just say that your use of the acronym for Purveyors of Partial Positiviality truly makes me smile!

And my guess is that the wind HELPED Dickey!

            :-)

          7. gategem

            Not according to MC.

          8. Kingman 26

Gategem, you have watched baseball longer than any of us, if I am not mistaken—please look at Dickey’s career—he is without question the worst MLB veteran pitcher in camp, and probably would be average in AAA.

Based on what I am pretty sure I remember you posting in the past, I would guess that you have forgotten more about baseball than MC will ever know.

Gary Cohen had the day off??

    LOL!

After not working for 5 months!!

  7. stickguy

liking all these pen arms. Hopefully the vets come out strong, so they can stash the spares (green, parnell, etc.) in Buffalo.

If he gets squeezed out, send Parnell to buff, and make him the closer. And get him a tutor to work on maxing the benefit of his FB, and figure out what 2nd pitch (sinker/cutter/slider) works for him, then make him work on it until he masters.

maybe abandoning SP and focusing on late inning relief (build the perfect machine!) will turn him into useful RP, for later in the year or next year?

    1. Kingman 26

What we have now, plus FMart, Davis, Mejia, Thole, Tejada, and maybe Parnell and Niese after a year of AAA seasoning?

Think about it–this team could be loaded in 2011.

      1. stickguy

        oddest thing?

If they have a rough start and maybe 1 more media gaffe, it could be another GM that reaping all the benefits!

        1. Kingman 26

          Rough start?

          Inconceivable!

      2. ceetar

What, our best prospects are in positions we have holes, weaker players, or upcoming holes? Shocking.

  8. CaseStreet

    El Diablo!

Glad to see Green pick up where he left off.

  9. Hazmet

I just posted this in entirely the wrong spot but here’s my odd moment of the day.

I get a wrong call on my cell today. I back search the number, what’s the name that comes up:
    Jose S. Reyes

    I kid you not. Bizzaro.

  10. CaseStreet

yes, GMJ was the missing piece to a Harang or Arroyo trade. Omar is brilliant.
