Bye Bye Beimel ?

According to a tweet by Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, negotiations between the Mets and left handed reliever Joe Beimel have stalled.
Joe Sroba, Beimel’s agent was quoted as saying “Talks with the Mets have fallen apart. Beimel is re-open to consider all clubs and willing to be flexible.”

I guess this solidifies either  both Takahasi and Ryota Irigashi’s place on the Mets roster.

I’m no Beimel fan, I think he’s successfully navigated a tightrope for some time now and I was not looking forward to his seemingly inevitable inability to continue to do that as a Met.

Thankfully I won’t have to live through the moment in Met history when the title of this post became his nickname as a Met reliever – “Bye Bye Beimel, there goes another one!”

As for Igarashi, given that he has a 2 year, $3 mil major league contract I think his spot is fairly well solidified already. But things are looking up for Takahashi.

Yeah but taka2me has been more impressive than iggysan

Agreed. I’m way too much looking forward to his upcoming starts, allegedly 3/27 and 4/1 he’s supposed to start although I also read a report he might start a split squad game this Sunday which doesn’t necessarily jive with the other two dates.

I think neise has it sewn up but what do I know lol as long as it isn’t figgy
but getting back to beimel he showed he had no heart when he got into the bar brawl during the nlds in 06 cutting his hand in a bar fight

It wasn’t so much the bar fight – obviously the drink and/or temper got the best of him. It was the covering up he tried to do. Whatever made him think he was getting away with that…..

Right now, I’d give the edge to Taka2 getting that 5th starter role come opening day. He does well in these two starts, I’d have to think that would lock it up – not unless Niese is lights out in his remaining outings.
Give Niese another month or so at AAA.

I agree 4D. I can’t see where Niese has sewn up anything. I definitely have have hope for the boy, so I hope Niese grabs his opportunities by the gonads and makes the leap. But at the present time, I can’t see how they can not consider TAK2.

I never really thought this signing would happen. Seemed way too much time between the offer originally made and now. I’m willing to bet he wanted more $$ or years than the Mets wanted to pony up. Bah…I’m not heartbroken.

      Bring back Chad Bradford !

I can’t decide if I was more upset with Chad leaving, Turk leaving or Rick Ags leaving for my favorite non-closer met.

Joe Beimel is a YouTube legend. This is him reading the lineups on FOX but if you google “The Legend Of Joe Beimel” you get some very interesting videos.

hahaha – just spent a half hour I’ll never get back watching some of these Legend of Joe Beimel videos. Too funny – looks like it morphed into a cult thing.

still no other team reported to be interested. So entirely possible this is just final posturing to get the deal nailed down.

I don’t particularly care. Just end it one way or the other. He isn’t really that good, and probably won’t add any more value than Misch.

While I was initially fond of Jerry (to be fair I would have been fond of anyone who wasn’t Willie, as I felt he shouldn’t have returned for 2008) I have soured on him over time. However I don’t despise him as much as some and it’s in that context that I quote Adam Rubin from earlier today:

“Nick Evans, who has only one spring at-bat because of a UCL injury in his right elbow, said he’s been cleared to being playing first base. He’s not allowed to throw from the outfield yet, but doesn’t expect Opening Day to be an issue with Buffalo.”

I know it was suggested otherwise earlier today in a previous thread but it appears there may just have been another reason than the whimsy of the current manager for why Evans has been MIA this spring.
