Eddie C says Jose is A OK!

Reporting on the Benigno and Roberts show on WFAN radio, Mets correspondent Ed Coleman broke the news that Jose Reyes’ thyroid levels have returned to normal, that the condition was diet related, and that he will be returning to Port St. Lucie to resume baseball activities in the next 24 hours.

Mets beat writer Steve Popper confirms via twitter saying “Reyes cleared by docs – here tomorrow.”

Well, probably the only one not excited to hear this news is Rubin Tejada.

Luck has been so bad I really was thinking we would be doing good if he was back by end of April/beginning of May.

    This is great news.

      this is beyond great news.

“Well, probably the only one not excited to hear this news is Rubin Tejada.”

and the entire city of Philadelphia. and the Marlins.

      1. metsfan4decades

LOL – Phily and Marlins – So true….

        1. DNDJohan aka kistics

          and josh johnson!…..

          maybe not…

      2. ceetar

lenno212 Exercise has no effect on levels, docs say. Dangerous when elevated.

There is NO risk of this popping up again now. There is no reason for Reyes to have another blood test. It’s simply exercise, play ball, start Opening Day, knock around the Marlins.

  2. Kingman 26

Wow, a player returning EARLY from an injury?

Is this the Mets? And it is not even April Fool’s Day!

    WOW!

Now, let’s send Mejia, FMart, Tejada, and Niese down so the Junior Core can begin bonding.

    1. ceetar

Maybe it’s a sign Beltran will also return mid-April instead of May 1stish. Maybe for all the “here we go again” this year, the Mets will only lose 15 or so days to the DL.

    2. darknova306

      “WOW!”

My words exactly. This is such great news after the debacles of last year. Still, I’ll be a lot more excited once I’ve seen Reyes on the field for a few games and he looks perfectly fine. 2009 still has me jumpy…

The Mets just don’t seem like the Mets without Reyes and Wright playing side by side on the field.

      1. Kingman 26

As it is still March, and things are looking up, allow me to present the possibility that 2010 might in fact be the exact opposite of 2009 in ALL ways.

        1. darknova306

It’s a distinct possibility. We could definitely use a season like that right now.

          1. DNDJohan aka kistics

yeah and the phillies to have our ’09 season

          2. Kingman 26

How about, say, our 1980 season?

            1993?

            1962?

    3. CaseStreet

Ooh, gotta TM “Junior Core”, though you forgot Davis.

      1. Kingman 26

I would never forget the first Ike I like, as Davis was already sent down when I wrote this. I should have said that they can JOIN Davis as the Junior Core(TM; all rights reserved by Kingman) begins their bonding for the future!

Thole, Davis, Tejada, FMart, Mejia, Niese…

        The future be bright!

        :-)

As both a Mets fan and the proud father to my little fantasy Reyes in TRDMBFBBL (The Real Dirty Mets Blog Fantasy BaseBall League), I could cry with joy.

    1. ceetar

I drafted Reyes in two fantasy leagues myself.

      1. GravediggerHebner

I drafted Beltran. (said in Charlie Brown’s Halloween “I got a rock” voice)

  4. stickguy

The best news? Well, best of course is no Cora starting at SS.

    But the next best?

Now we can go back to arguing about whether Jose should hit 3rd!

    1. njstuckintx

      Ahh, the good problems.

Man oh man, work just went from pretty crappy to not so bad. Not so bad at all…

    2. njstuckintx

And to actually answer your question, no, they’ll bat him lead off. Not enough time to experiment.

  5. metsfan4decades

SNY just cut in with ‘Breaking News’ reporting on Reyes has been cleared.

    John Harper reporting from PSL:

    - Happened quicker than even Met officials thought.
    - Opening Day: Mets haven’t said anything officially but someone close to the team said he should be ready. Expect him to be in the opening day lineup
    - They really don’t know what caused the problem, they’re leaning towards diet, they don’t expect a relapse but will be monitoring it.
    - Spirits are very, very high now down there.

    1. udontmesswthejohan

The only thing that concerns me is if they don’t know what caused it, can it come back again?

  6. asod75

    Great news…great news indeed!

  7. Mr North Jersey

Good news indeed, I just finished reading this morning that Reyes went through Netflix like no one’s business watching more movies than the most diehard movie critic. :-)

  8. trs86

    :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

  9. udontmesswthejohan

    Simply terrific news.

    Santana-Reyes handshakes to everyone!

    1. Mr North Jersey

      lol

    2. CaseStreet

      Should Jose bat third?

      1. Kingman 26

        Ha!

I was so elated about him being back I forgot all about that!

Now that I think about it, if he is healthy and playing by opening day, I don’t even really care.

But since you asked…..while he is a dynamic and exciting leadoff guy, I still maintain that he can doe everything batting third that he does batting first, but will wind up with a lot more RBI. And Slappy’s remaining skills (OBP, speed, seeing pitches) combined with his complete lack of extra base hit ability, seem to make him a good guy to hit first for now.

Castillo, Pagan, Reyes, Wright, Bay, Murph, Frenchy, Barajas–only because Jerry seems to have said this; I prefer Murph behind Frenchy.

Then when Beltran returns very soon ahead of schedule:

Castillo, Beltran, Reyes, Wright, Bay, Murph, Frenchy, Barajas.

But is will probably ultimately be:

Reyes, Castillo, Beltran, Wright, Bay, Murph, Frenchy, Barajas.

Which, if we get any improvement from Murph, and if we get the same thing we got last year from Frenchy, will be a really good lineup.

        1. CaseStreet

          Really, Really Good Lineup!

I listened to the fan during most of my long car ride today. Mikey F kept saying that Beltran’s ahead of schedule too, and seems to think that May 1st is actually the LATEST he may be back.

Within 3 weeks we might have our entire lineup!

    1. ceetar

Could only lose 15 days to the DL. Hopefully that’s it for the year as well (in terms of the major parts)

I’m back to being fully optimistic. This lineup is very good.

      1. CaseStreet

just don’t make any “team to beat” statements

        1. Kingman 26

The Mariners are the team to beat in the AL West??

          1. CaseStreet

sure if you think pitching, speed and defense wins games :)

          2. Kingman 26

As a matter of fact, I DO happen to think that!!

            :-)

          3. rustyjr

can they say we think we are the team that will come out on top? – same difference different way to say it – its called semantics lol

        2. ceetar

I’m a big fan of trash talking. When the Mets clinch the division against the Phillies in Sept, I want us all chanting “Team to beat” during the 9th inning.

          1. rustyjr

i shall be there – with my brett myers wife beater on !
