I am at a loss for words. I hope no one was hurt of course and Gooden gets whatever helps the situation calls for.

    Just sad to read this.
Back during the last game at Shea, and the interviews with Doc, I got the impression he was really excited about being ‘back’. Sounded like his life was on track. Obviously not totally. He must have demons still chasing him he’s yet to deal with.

I commented on this on the last post:

I read Strawberry’s last book. He went to great lengths – and still does – to overcome the demons haunting him since his minor league days.

For instance, when he comes to NYC to do SNY analysis, he stays with a long time friend of the family. No hotel, no old ‘party’ friends. This way, there is no temptation. He’s trying to live a very low key kind of life, even though he’s somewhat in the public eye.

Sounds like Straw finally came to terms and faced whatever it was he had a hard time dealing with his whole life. I wish Doc Gooden nothing but the best in his efforts to do the same. He was hands down, without a doubt, my all time favorite pitcher back in the day….

And the other shoe has dropped. I guess the silver lining is it’s not an active player.

And just a thought: Wonder how this affects that August pre game cermonies and his intro into the Mets Hall of Fame? Mets PR must be tearing their hair out about now.

So long as he is not sent back to jail for violating probation I would expect him to be there unless he is in some sort of rehab clinic.

The video link from the prison cell is always a depressing option.

So, have you seen the add for Mets tickets featuring Jose with a bat on his shoulder and the words ‘We Believe in Getting Dirty’?

Found it on the metsgrrl blog. I like that better than ‘We Believe in Comebacks’.

Hey that should be OUR slogan.

      1. rustyjr

go grab the image for future use. If I notice one I’ll snap a better picture, but I don’t get to NYC as much these days.

      3. gategem

You know of course that “getting dirty” could also mean wallowing in sh*t. :) So forget about the slogan.

    2. ceetar

We Believe in comebacks is the ‘general’ slogan I think. They’ve got a couple of little ones on ad campaigns.

    3. DNDJohan aka kistics

It would’ve been funny if it said “We believe in grit”

      1. rustyjr

We believe in the curse of mike cubbage ?

Even just 5 seasons of what he did in 1985/1986, he’d been Koufax-esque.

Aw, Doc. C’mon, man, we’re still behind you, but get it together. If Straw can do it, you can too!

Big day for Niese today guys. I really think if he does poorly then he’s off the list.
