Twitter is a buzz this morning about how Reyes looks on his 1st day back. Here are a few excerpts.
Steve Popper: Reyes dancing during group stretch – add that to eating breakfast for activities.
David Lennon: So far, so good. Reyes made it through conditioning drills with the team – and finished first in every one. There is no low gear for him.
StevePopper: So much for caution: Reyes beats entire team in every drill and then runs to next field.
Brian Costa: Reyes, after taking a few grounders, tells Manuel: “Oh, man, I’m ready, bro.” #nym
Steve Popper: Reyes fielded grounders w/ Manuel watching. Now BP. Like Jerry, I’m no doctor but I think they’ll need chains to keep him out of the lineup
David Lennon: Reyes looks the same, other than the fact he’s been winded after some of the drills. That usually doesn’t happen. Running looks fine. #mets
Brian Costa: So far Reyes has taken grounders and BP. Now doing agility drills on outfield grass. Overall, looks good. #nym

Two consecutive days of good news, not sure how to react. Face hurts from smiling, not used to it. If the Mets parlay GMJ plus into a decent pitcher I may soil my undies in the good way.

Perhaps 2010 is going to be the exact opposite of 2009.
Perhaps every surprise THIS year is going to be a good one.
From what we have seen from the Junior Core to everyone’s staying healthy all spring to Jose’s quick return, it has been a good season thus far, with T minus 12 until it really begins.
On the other hand, read the Gooden story over on the right on SportSpyder—truly pathetic if true.

I’m really sorry to read that. I had hoped that Gooden had finally turned his life around.

certainly doesn’t sound like it.
For someone with his history, obviously total abstinence is best. But even if you want to rationalize, 8am with his kid in the car? That is bad for anyone, and far from having a couple of drinks at a party.

I read Strawberry’s last book. He went to great lengths – and still does – to overcome the demons haunting him since his minor league days.
For instance, when he comes to NYC to do SNY analysis, he stays with a long time friend of the family. No hotel, no old ‘party’ friends. This way, there is no temptation. He’s trying to live a very low key kind of life, even though he’s somewhat in the public eye.

I felt precisely the same way.
I think for fans around our age, he means so very, very much.
I love that Darryl finally seems to have his act together and I love him being around–I was at his first game in 1983.
Wish Dwight could get it together….

and still 12 days until the season opens.
Makes me look prophetic for saying weeks ago to wait until the roster is actually set and the team heads north to make decisions on what you expect (and to decide the season is over, no hope, etc.).
Hey, when camp opened, I am sure no one was expecting that Mejia would be the set up guy, or that figgy and Taka2 would be deuling for the #5 spot in the rotation.
beltran possibly being back before the end of April just another bonus.

Psssssst—Figgy is only dueling with the crazy voices in his head which tell him that he is a major league caliber pitcher.

I think that is the bug TRS planted.
Besides, the craziest voice of all is right there in the dugout with him (Jerry), so who knows?

Forgot to add, almost 2 weeks for my last prediction to come true: Omar would add another SP before the end of camp.
I really believe that Omar was never sold on the MOP+ axis, but the off season options were not palatable enough to bite at. So, he decided to see what he had, and look to make a move late in camp if needed.
Now, whether he has seen enough to decide to make a move is another story!

I’ve thought he’d make a move too, but it may have to wait for in-season. Certainly aren’t going to sink in April.
