Could you imagine if the new digital media age (and rumor mongering hacks pandering to the lowest common denominator) were around back in the day of Babe Ruth? Even Mickey Mantle and those guys. hell, even the ’86 Mets.

Babe Ruth pretty much set the bar for that type of stuff in his day though. But yeah, obviously wasn’t as bad due to the year, but still.
The Daily News succeeded as a paper because of Babe Ruth and following him around and reporting on him. One of the first beat reporters.

Reyes is probably very tired answering the same questions over and over and over. Although, I’m sure he and other ML ball players will take that vs. the opposite which is the media doesn’t give you the time of day ’cause no one knows your name.
Rare treat this morning. Instead of having to listen to Boomer and especially Carton it’s Joe and Evan until 10 am. Although come 10am, we’re stuck with Malusis….

speaking of hype (we are now!), a quick straw poll (I think I rambled on about this the other day on an expired thread).
question: How long is the leash on Mejia, and what criteria get’s him sent down (bonus points for what he does when that happens, RP or SP!)
Say reality hits and his 1st outing is a bit rough. Couple walks, and a run or 2. Then they keep rolling him out to erratic results (elevated whip, giving up runs, some control issues).
basically, say he gets exposed as a barely 20 YO that needs some more seasoning (or he essentially does what he did in AA and winter ball).
DOes he get a week? A month? 10 appearances? The season no matter what?
Note that I have him fully pencilled into the pen, taking the “parnell memorial big SB in ST gets you a prime spot in the pen” role.
