Just an FYI….for whatever reason, I was able to bring up the GameDay for this game – unlike yesterday when I wasn’t able to.

    1. GravediggerHebner

Thank you, just added the link to the post.

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

There’s actually a link on MLB.com for this game’s gameday. MLB must’ve caught up to TRDMB’s secret plot.

        1. GravediggerHebner

Yeah I saw that, I couldn’t believe it. I had to do that classic Hollywood double take, then rub my eyes and blink a lot, I was so surprised. If a camera had been on me we’d be talking Oscar.

  2. GravediggerHebner

The boys are off to a flying start, 3-0 Mets after 1.

    1. metsfan4decades

Yes, and as predicted so far, Figgy pitches to the minimum in the 1st.

  3. GravediggerHebner

When I saw “Murphy, D.” in the Florida lineup my 1st thought was “who did we get for him?”

    1. DNDJohan aka kistics

According to the Gameday, his pop-up must’ve been caught by a fan.

  4. stickguy

almost the OD lineup. Nice to see they took the boys on a road trip.

Let’s see, with Ryes in and Cora out, do you put Reyes 1st, and pagan in the 7 hole? Or make more interesting adjustments?

Also, wonder how long PSL will be around? Quite a few discussions lately about how the east coast of Fla. is becoming too isolated. Might have to move over to the west coast, or maybe near Orlando like some of the others.

    1. GravediggerHebner

Or bite the bullet and get a handful of team helicopters.

    2. GravediggerHebner

Assuming that the “Jose bats 3rd” idea is dead I’m going to guess they’ll do exactly what you suggest.

    3. DNDJohan aka kistics

For a minute there, I thought OD as in the other OD.

  5. GravediggerHebner

I guess, if Jose needs a few days into the season to get ready, this would be the Opening Day lineup (except if Blanco is Santana’s personal catcher)?

  6. metsfan4decades

Dwright 2 for 2 with a double and HR.

  7. DNDJohan aka kistics

What do you guys think of Murphy hitting 5th behind Bay?

I think the reasoning is that you don’t want to have 3 high K RHBs in a row. But I think Murphy would be better served behind Frenchy rather than in front of him.

    1. ceetar

I’d rather Murphy in front of Francoeur, the whole ‘break up the righties’ thing, which i don’t necessarily care for, but it does make sense. keep the high K guys separated as well, and hopefully Murphy goes back to having a good eye and walking more.

    2. GravediggerHebner

I agree completely with your suggestion as to why they do it, and I also agree that ideally (for who he is right now) that Murphy would be better utilized lower in a batting order, 7th suits him IMO. But given the other guys available it’s hard to slot him 7th.

I suppose with Jose back (but Beltran still out) they could go something like this:

      Reyes
      Castillo
      Wright
      Bay
      Pagan
      Francoeur
      Murphy
      Barajas

but somehow I doubt they’d do it.

      1. GravediggerHebner

For me ultimately it’s more important to keep Francoeur and Barajas, the two guys most likely to have OBPs under .300, from batting back-to-back. That’s more important to me than to separate the 3 righties who strike out a lot, when I factor in that Wright and Bay despite the Ks are good OBP guys.

        1. njstuckintx

You think Pagan is better suited in the 5 spot than Murphy?

          1. GravediggerHebner

Not really, it’s more that I think Murphy is better suited to the 7th than the 5th spot. But neither guy is ideal to me 5th. The top 5 of this lineup won’t be ideal until Beltran is back, then it will be something to behold.

      2. DNDJohan aka kistics

        Ahh.. Pagan at 5th thing…

      3. ceetar

I don’t even care. Give me them drawn out of a hat (kidding, Manuel, kidding) as long as the games count .lets go already.

  8. GravediggerHebner

Well Figgy is showing his mortality at just the right time. If only Mejia would cooperate.

    1. GravediggerHebner

Speak of the devil, Mejia relieves Figgy with the bases loaded.

      1. metsfan4decades

lol. Actually wanted to see Figgy do well so some other team would pick him up when he refuses the Mets AAA designation.

        1. stickguy

I am fine with him having to suck up a demotion to Buffalo. Then will hope not to need him!

    2. stickguy

      I’m with you on that.

      1. GravediggerHebner

        Hey, Mejia cooperated!

        1. GravediggerHebner

Faced 2 batters, gave up 3 inherited and 4 total runs, only got the one out he needed on a runner stretching single into double.

If this leads to his going to AA to start I’ll be one happy camper.

          1. stickguy

            me too.

    3. DNDJohan aka kistics

      You said it!

  9. DNDJohan aka kistics

    8 run inning.

  10. metsfan4decades

Well, that was an ugly inning.
Mejia not fairing too well when brought in with men on base.

    1. rustyjr

Is it weird that I’m happy yet sad lol

      1. metsfan4decades

lol. I think we all realize while he’s got some great stuff, he probably is not ready for the ML, not even in the BP. According to all reports I’ve read his FB is electric but his other pitches are not there yet to consistently get outs.

  11. metsfan4decades

    Cora HR?

  12. ceetar

StevePopper Not at all. But I’m biased – bought Tagalong Girl Scout cookies from his daughter. RT @tbrucato: Isn’t Figgy a bit of a jerk?

    1. DNDJohan aka kistics

      huh?

      1. GravediggerHebner

        Allow me to translate:

Question (from twitter user @tbrucato): Isn’t Figgy a bit of a jerk?

Answer (from twitter user and Met’s beat writer Steve Popper): Not at all. But I’m biased – bought Tagalong Girl Scout cookies from his daughter (Popper has purchased Peanut Butter Patties from Nelson’s child).

        1. DNDJohan aka kistics

Ah… Thanks a bunch Grave! You seem to know everything!

          1. Kingman 26

He is kind of a cross between Einstein and a guru, isn’t he??

          2. ceetar

            Grave was mentioned

Ledger_NYMets Your comments: Mets pitcher John Maine’s ‘very decent’ outing http://bit.ly/bNhdcq

          3. Kingman 26

I keep a low profile over there—I am Brock Landers—they quoted me on something recently, and now I feel like I am in good company with you guys over there!

          4. DNDJohan aka kistics

            Awesome!

  13. njstuckintx

If we could only have it that the box scores updated in live time…

    1. ceetar

      10 days?

  14. metsfan4decades

Who is Raul Valdes? (replaced Mejia)

    1. GravediggerHebner

Not sure, I think he’s “on loan from the Mexican league” and if so is a left hander who pitched in one of the recent games that was on TV, the one Keith and Gary did.

He pitched in the Mets system a couple years ago.

      Raul Valdes

      1. metsfan4decades

Thanks. Don’t remember ever seeing him.

      2. stickguy

is he even vaguely in contention for a role with the team? If not, why is he pitching in games that count with just a week left in ST?

        1. ceetar

You find a lot of this it seems. Last year we had Dillon Gee and Jonathan Malo floating around late in the season. I think a lot of times they have the real starters already prepared and set to a specific schedule and they just throw minor leaguers (sometimes literally!) at the holes in the schedule. Especially on the road.

        2. GravediggerHebner

I think he’s just late ST contingency for guys not going as long as expected. With Nelson only going 2 2/3 they needed someone to get a few outs.

  15. metsfan4decades

Lost cable for several minutes. Got it back to see we tied the score.
I know many of you don’t like Misch but he’s quietly having a very nice ST.
I’ll take him over Green and Figgy any day. Lately over Parnell too but I think Parnell still has some upside.

  16. metsfan4decades

Simultaneously watching the Boston – Omir HR game.
I think this was Pelf’s first outing after that 3 balk game last year. I forgot how uncomfortable he looked out there on the mound many times last year. I really hope he’s got it together this year and we won’t see any repeats of the ‘Yips’….

    1. njstuckintx

Yeah, it went from supersticious to downright OCD.

  17. Kingman 26

    Hey folks–

Been busy all day–how did Figgy do?

    1. metsfan4decades

LOL – fine until the 3rd inning. At which point he gave up 7 runs on 8 hits and only two outs. They brought in Mejia with the bases loaded and he allowed all 3 of those inherited runners to score.

    2. GravediggerHebner

Pour yourself a generous helping of your favorite celebratory beverage:

      2 2/3 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 7 ER

relieved by Mejia with the bases loaded who promptly allowed 4 runs (3 of which were charged to Nelson).

      1. asod75

Mejia’s outing may actually be the better news (I highly doubt Figs was making the team anyway). Get him back to the minors and let him start! If he fails as a starter, then you can move him back to the pen but give him some time down there since he’s only 20.

        1. Kingman 26

          A+++++

Mejia starting the year in the pen would be a complete disaster.

    3. DNDJohan aka kistics

He gave up like 20 runs in 3rd inning.

    4. Kingman 26

Well, those actual major leaguers can be tough.

  18. DNDJohan aka kistics

This is completely off topic, but looks like the porn star Tiger Woods was having an affair with is now going to release pictures that she took when she was with Tiger.

    Gee. What was Tiger thinking…..

    1. njstuckintx

They should come with a title to them “This is what flushing millions down the toilet looks like…”

And there is no way they come out. She’s going for a payday on this.

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

I wonder if Nike would cut their ties with Tiger if this thing really comes out.

        1. Kingman 26

Compared with the way Nike runs their Asian operations with basically child slave labor kept in line by soldiers in Asia, I would think that this whole issue might IMPROVE their overall Q rating and reputation.

    2. metsfan4decades

Someone must be paying her big $$s for those pictures. Just goes to show you what some will do for money.
And I have no idea what Tiger was thinking…..

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

I think the porn star was also pissed too.

        1. njstuckintx

It was with a Porn Star! Like he wouldn’t know this would end disasterous. He’s just lucky he’s not on some IV drip to clear up something itchy or worse. At this point, for him, it’s only money.

          1. DNDJohan aka kistics

            Exactly.

    3. GravediggerHebner

Did you happen to see South Park last week?

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

        No. What happened?

      2. GravediggerHebner

Don’t click on this if foul language offends you.

South Park EA Sports Tiger Woods

        1. DNDJohan aka kistics

          That’s really funny

          1. GravediggerHebner

            ***Spoiler Alert***

(don’t read this comment if you don’t want the episode spoiled)

Basically the full premise of the show was the the government conducted a study on marital infidelity and concluded that men with wealth and power lead them to be unfaithful. But because it was wealthy and powerful men who were figuring this out they realized that answer wasn’t going to cut it so they instead said their was an evil Sex Addiction Wizard who was casting a spell on men to make them unfaithful, so they dressed up some guy like a wizard and then killed him, thus ending infidelity.

    4. Kingman 26

Well, Tiger was thinking “I have a billion dollars.”

And “Hmmm, now I don’t have to play the Buick Classic and go to Thailand for the Thai Open this winter and spring.”

And “I think I might just be able to play the Masters and the other majors this year.”

And “I really CAN do whatever I want!”

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

Man. I would almost think Divorce would be a quick simple fix for all this. It’s probably easier on his wife and the kids.

        1. Kingman 26

I am sure the wife is carefully calculating which way she will be wealthier, and she will then make her decision.

She either knew EXACTLY what was going on, or she may be the stupidest human being who has ever walked upright.

          1. DNDJohan aka kistics

I think she was somewhere in between those two extremes, but more on the latter side.

Tiger is a busy man and I’m sure it was very easy to book a “meeting” at odd hours and not draw any suspicion from his wife.

          2. Kingman 26

True, but Tiger met her when she was a nanny for Jesper Parnevik, a very prominent golfer on the PGA and other world tours for years who I believe she is still close with….there ain’t no way that Jesper and dozens of other golfers did not know exactly what was going on.

He wasn’t booking a meeting at odd hours, he was screwing every skank from here to Calcutta!

  19. stickguy

hopefully this outing might wise up the Mejia crowd. Please, send him down? ANd I think for sure Figgy will be choosing between AAA and some foreign country soon.

Also, I am warming up to the idea of Gaudin. Assuming Neise is taking the 5 hole, and the pen will have K rod, Calero, Neive, Feliciano and Taks2 locked in. And probably Iggy?

1 spot left, right now for green/parnell/misch. Playing the options game, send Parnell and green down (parnell for closers school, and Green to get him the hell away from meaningful met games). Sign Gaudin, and him risk losing Misch to fill out the pen, with Green, Kunz and Parnell in AAA waiting for a need. And maybe, someday, excobar. And Misch if he clears.

Gaudin, taka and Neive can also spot start of cover as a group a stray fill-in start. And move to the rotation for a spell if someone else hits the DL.

You got a couple of lefties, some good cross over set up types, and some decent FBs out there (should be plenty of Ks). And really, no OOGYS unless Jerry is too dumb to figure that out.

If gaudin doesn’t sign, replace him with Misch.

    1. Kingman 26

In a shcoking development, I agree with every word of this!

  20. trs86

Another think I to look at, this really puts sample size in picture. Figgy having a “great” spring and after 1 bad inning has an ERA worse than Nieve, Misch, Perez, Niese, Parnell, Stoner and an entire host of pitchers. 0 to suck in 1 inning.
