One more week. Can you believe it? One more week and we will finally start to answer all those questions we have been debating all winter. Too many questions for me to even try to list here.
Being so close to Opening Day we can start to really envision who will be in the Opening Day lineup. It will most likey include,
- 1B Daniel Murphy
- 2B Luis Castillo
- 3B David Wright
- SS Jose Reyes
- C. Rod Barajas
- LF Jason Bay
- CF Angel Pagan
- RF Jeff Francoeur
- SP Johan Santana
Not in that order of course and I understand that Reyes is questionable but if you don’t mind i’d rather think positive and expect to see him there barring any setbacks.
This is not a bad group of guys for the lineup all things considered but I wondered if I could have the lineup I wanted who would I have in the lineup that would really get me amped? This is what I came up with.
- 1B Ike Davis
- 2B Ruben Tejada
- 3B David Wright
- SS Jose Reyes
- CÂ Josh Thole
- LF Jason Bay
- CF Carlos Beltran
- RF Fernando Martinez
- SP Johan Santana
When you think of taking advantage of Pitching, Speed, and Defense in Citi Fields for 2010. The idea of having an infield with Wright, Reyes, Davis and Tejada gives me goosebumps. To watch both Reyes and Fmart running on the basepaths brings a smile to my face. Then to watch possibly Wright, Bay and Davis come up with the chance of hitting back to back to back homers well you get what I am talking about.
Am I dreaming? Yes, but what a great dream to have. Now time to wake back up.

I love the dream lineup. Only problem is I wake up and Jerry’s still managing the team and we’re still depending on MOP.
As for Jose starting the year, I get the feeling if it was one of those years they started in FLA or warmer weather the chances of him being there would be greater. I don’t think they want him starting games 2 & 3 of the season in what could be very cold early April night time temps.

opening day is a day game. And if the weekend weather holds, it should be in the 70s. So I think he should be good!

Your dream lineup looks to be what the 2011 starting lineup will be! woo to the hoo!

Truthfully, either lineup would work for me this year.
It’s the pitching, pitching, pitching that’s got me worried. The stronger the SP, the easier it would be to go with that many ‘untested’ rookies in your second lineup.
Unfortunately, our SP behind Johan is one big question mark.

I agree

It’s a big, ugly question mark, which grows more warts, zits, and abrasions with every rotten outing by Pelf, Ollie, and Maine….one start to the real games left for Pelf and he looks like a disaster area large enough to qualify for help from FEMA.

Brownie will do a heck of a job with this disaster, I’m sure.

I am encouraged by Pelf this year. I like that he is actually working on building up his overall arsenal of pitches.
And now it seems like we may have a catcher that has a clue about how to use them, and how to keep the pitcher focused.

Great dream lineup for 2011; those guys surely aren’t all ready now. Imagine them all with a successful year in AAA under their belts!
But this team, regardless of 2010′s results, could be a powerhouse in 2011 if Mejia and Niese develop.
With apologies to Bob Klapisch, Ken Rosenthal, and the rest of the lazy fools who will have to think of new things to write next offseason, the future for the Mets is VERY bright.

While I like your dream lineup very much, perhaps it’s the sort of Nice Dream that will need the help of Cheech and or Chong to come true given that such a small percentage of minor leaguers even make it to the majors at all, let alone become starting players. Luckily, Orlando Hudson and Felipe Lopez will both be free agents again next year so we can all look forward to hearing about them too much at least one more time.

well, it does happen occasionally (when a bunch of prospects all hit together). And if the FO doesn’t botch getting supporting pieces, you often get a nice dominant run while they are together.
late 90s Yankees. Current Phils. even the mid-80′s mets. 2008 Tampa, but that was more of a 1 year wonder.

Oye, pero por que viene a burst mi bubble? Dejame sonar.
Loosely Translated: Hey, why you bursting my bubble? Let me dream.
In all seriousness though of course I agree Grave, there is more chance of TRS becoming a new writer at MC’s Blog than this being a Opening Day lineup this or any other year.

Thanks Grave…I’ve been thinking this for several weeks now, but didn’t want to upset anyone. So few minor leaguers work out, but Mets fans seem dead set on the fact that all these guys will be starting for the team within a year or two…
