Letters to the NL East, Part 1 of 5.
Dear Florida Marlins,
Congratulations! You’ve been caught stealing from the league! No one was surprised after you were told by the league to stop pocketing the revenue sharing money that you handed your star pitcher a big check. Why look at free agents or try to actually improve the team in any way? That’d cost money! Maybe when you get that new stadium right?
This isn’t to say you don’t have any good players. The aforementioned Josh Johnson and the whiny guy at shortstop are stars. Some good prospects and young talent floating around down there, but who knows how reliable or talented they will end up being. Chances are you’ll be the team that’s semi-talented, capable of winning any ballgame but just not that often. Yes, you’ll probably beat the Washington Nationals, but that’s not exactly high praise.
You’ll be in to Citi Field to open the season this year, and I suspect that’s the closest you’ll be to the Mets in the standings all year. You’ll play the Mets a series in Puerto Rico this year as well, and despite having last licks, I suspect there will still be more people in the stands rooting for the Mets.
Your disgusted rival from up north,
Optimistic Mets Fan

I like Hanley…would LOVE to see him on the Mets playing 2B, not that it would realistically happen.

This was great and I can’t wait to read your ‘letters’ to those two teams!

I usually do them as part 0/5. It’s meant to be a smack-talk style thing addressing those we are in direct competition with, and to some extent, we compete with the Yankees. Think of them as the bonus. I’ll be posting that letter Sunday.

I like it! I live in So. FL so I have a particular distaste for the Marlins and their fair weather fans. Aside from the times they’ve been deep in the playoffs I’ve never actually met a Marlins fan. Met plenty of Yankee, Red Sox and Mets fans down here but nary a Marlins fan to be found.

Went back and read your previous years letters from your website.
This….from last years NY Met letter. Very ominous…..
As usual, health plays an issue. You need to make sure guys like Delgado, Church, Castillo and Maine all stay healthy.
‘Health plays an issue’. If that wouldn’t come down to the understatement of the year, don’t know what did.

yeah..I noticed that when i was skimming them last night. I definitely winced. I’m sure I belittled the Phillies and Yankees last year too.

you got lucky with 1 of the 4. And of course forgot to even mention the other major ones!
I still don’t understand how slappy ended up being about the only healthy all year met (him and Murphy man). What were the odds on that?

I know I would have lost that bet. At the start of the season, I expected Castillo to be the FIRST to visit the DL. Little did I know….

Ceeter, you nailed it! Funny, that’s exactly what they are and will continue to be.

(said in deep voice, with echo) Underestimate the team that finished in 2nd place last year winning 87 games at your own peril. (insert scary ghost noises here)
