I’d be surprised if he clears waivers. From what I’m reading on MLBTR, it seems many clubs still looking for cheap arms.

I’m sure Omar’s talked to them though, so chance are it’s not Misch they’re looking for. Guess most teams don’t take spring training seriously. odd, that.

      1. metsfan4decades

Good point. I hope you’re right because I think we’re going to need all the depth we’ve got right now.

To make room for Elmer Dessens on the roster?

    1. asod75

This pitching staff is downright scary. Ollie Perez looked terrible today. The thing is, I like the Mets’ lineup and they could have a decent bench. Just don’t know if they’re going to get anybody out. And don’t even get me started about Elmer Dessens. I hope they’re not seriously thinking of carrying that scrub. Last year was about the best you can expect from Dessens. At least Misch is much younger, although I won’t shed a tear if the Mets lose him. Just would be nice to have a little depth at AAA, though.

      1. Kingman 26

I totally agree with you now.

Dessens is garbage, but Misch might get better.

The lineup could be excellent, the bench will be solid, the pen has potential, and the starters look horrific.

I know it is still spring training; but we are 6 Timo/Backman/Alex Trevino days till the opener, and this is ridiculous. Maine, Ollie, and Pelf are frigin messes.

        1. asod75

I keep trying to tell myself it’s only spring, but it would be nice to see an encouraging performance by the starting pitchers. Another concern has to be this Igarashi. He allowed another run today with a ton of baserunners. It’s strange, Takahashi gets a minor-league deal and actually looks like he can get MLB hitters out. Igarashi signs a two-year guaranteed deal, and it looks like he’d have a hard time getting me out right now. Hope he’s just working out the kinks, but that 7.50 spring training ERA is very Rich Rodriguez-esque.

        2. metsfan4decades

Relievers not named KRod haven’t looked too sharp this past week either.

          1. asod75

And both Cora and Murphy left the game today with injuries. Hopefully nothing too serious, but you can’t help but think “here we go again.”

          2. Mr North Jersey

Well at least the Mets have a Tejada and a Cat as backups.

          3. Kingman 26

You are SO correct; I was trying not to pile on!

Other than Johan, KRod, and Feliciano, our pitching looks like a serious disaster area.

          4. metsfan4decades

Oops, you are correct. I should have said relievers other than KRod AND Pedro. I keep forgetting about Pedro b/c I haven’t seen him pitch all that much this spring, I expect him to just pick up where he left off last year and he’s been about as consistent as they come.

    2. DNDJohan aka kistics

Where did you hear that? Are you saying Dessens will make the 25 man roster????

  3. Mr North Jersey

Oh man TRS is going to flip.

    1. Kingman 26

Now if just Figgy can join him, TRS and I will be flipping for days.

      1. Mr North Jersey

LoL get ready to start flipping then I would say. I would not be at all surprised to see that happen anytime now.

      2. asod75

If they somehow carry both Figgy and Dessens (not saying they are, but if), can somebody say “redundant?”

        1. Kingman 26

          I can say “redundant.”

I can also say “they both SUCK.”

          1. asod75

            Well, that too.

  4. Mr North Jersey

I have been looking to see if there is more said in regards to why Misch was put on waivers and nothing has been reported yet. I don’t understand why the Mets would risk losing Misch through waivers when he has pitched well this Spring. You think there is a gentleman’s agreement to allow him through?

The Mets really didn’t have to risk losing him in my opinion they had players with options that they could of sent down to give these guys a deeper look in real game situations and then decide accordingly.

    1. GravediggerHebner

My best guess is the organization has decided that Misch is not one of their twelve best pitchers and would like to send him to AAA but they understand in doing that that they risk losing him to a claim by another team. I highly doubt there is any gentleman’s agreement. In an era when the Yankees claim Chris Carter just to give the Red Sox a small roster problem, I just can’t believe that teams would do other teams roster favors, unless there were a player or cash involved (i.e. I’ll trade you my A ball 2B if you don’t claim Misch).

      1. Mr North Jersey

I have to agree with you. I guess deep down I also knew that but was hoping someone could talk me into believing there was a gentleman’s agreement.

    2. ceetar

Don’t the Mets have the option of pulling him back off waivers and keeping him on the roster?

      1. Mr North Jersey

        Would they pull him back?

        1. ceetar

maybe, and try to trade him, even if it’s just for a PTBNL.

      2. GravediggerHebner

Trying to find the waiver rules now. My basic understanding is there are “revocable” and “irrevocable” waivers.

        1. ceetar

they’re so confusing. I hate this stuff. I know the August waivers you can pull back from.

          1. GravediggerHebner

            Yes.

I can’t find any “official” source that explains it clearly but here’s what a baseball message board has to say.

A player needs to clear waivers (pass through the three day waiver period without being claimed) under the following circumstances:

*The player is being removed from the 40 man roster (outrighted)
*The player is being demoted to the minor leagues from the major league club and is out of option years
            *The player is being released

In these senerios, the player is placed on waivers before the transaction can be processed. If the player is not claimed by any team for three days, then the tranaction can take place. If the player is claimed by another team, that player is asssigned to the level he was previously at (25 man roster, 40 man roster, etc). Waivers here are irrevocable, meaning that the waiving team can not change their mind and remove the player from waivers.

A team may also wish to place a player on waivers to trade him after the trading deadline has passed. This waiver period, which takes place from August 1st to August 31st, allows teams to place players on “revocable” waivers for the purpose of being allowed to trade them after the trade deadline. Players who clear waivers during this time can be traded after the July 31st trade deadline that season. However, if a player is claimed during this time, a team has two options. They can pull the player back off of waivers and keep the player, or they can negotiate a trade with the claiming team ONLY. If the team does not want to trade the player to the claiming team, they can elect to pull the player back off of waivers and keep him on the roster (revoke the waiver). A team may only do this once to a player a season. If the player is placed on waivers again after having been pulled back, those waivers are irrevocable and the player cannot be pulled back if claimed.

          2. ceetar

so he’s either a Bison or not a Met it seems like.

          3. GravediggerHebner

that’s the way I read it as well.

          4. Mr North Jersey

Great work again Grave. If that is accurate it looks like the Mets can’t pull Misch back if claimed by another team.

          5. metsfan4decades

In Adam Rubin’s interview on Sports Talk 90.3 that Jerz put up, he says Misch almost definitely clears waivers.

          6. Mr North Jersey

Interesting, That is a very long interview 4D. How far into did you get?

          7. metsfan4decades

            I’m on 3 from 9 right now.
Want to say thanks for putting that up b/c it’s probably not something I would have found readily on my own.
And as suspected, Rubin is a little more forthcoming on this interview so far…then we would have normally heard when he worked for Daily News.

          8. ceetar

How could he know that? he’s talked to all 29 GMs?

          9. Mr North Jersey

            He did say almost. ;-)

          10. metsfan4decades

Obviously not. It’s not like he was saying he had any insider info, but the way he said almost definitely will clear, it’s like he didn’t think there would even be a question on it.

  5. Mr North Jersey

Steve Phillips just said the Phillies are a dynasty in the making on Mike’d up.

    1. ceetar

heh. kinda funny. I laugh when I hear trash like that.

      1. Mr North Jersey

It would have more meaning if it came from someone like Mike Francesa.

        -SIKE!

    2. GravediggerHebner

      “in the making?”

      1. Mr North Jersey

I guess if they go back to the W.S. then you can say they are a dynasty.

        1. GravediggerHebner

I suppose that would cinch it.

To me, in this 21st century era of baseball, 3 consecutive division titles, 2 consecutive WS appearances, including 1 win, is fairly dynastic.

The reason I asked “in the making” is because in my opinion they’re closer to “a crumbling dynasty” than they are to “a dynasty in the making” because another WS appearance this year merely (IMO) adds to their dynastic legacy, while a failure to make it shows the crumbling has begun.

      2. ceetar

What classifies a dynasty? They had one division literally handed to them with no PS wins, won one title, failed to get a second.. If they breeze through the postseason again and make the World Series then maybe they have a NL dynasty, maybe. But they’ve faced very little adversity during this run. Did they even get to an elimination game? I know guys stepped up and pitched well in ’08, but last year no one seemed to put up any fight until the Yankees.

    3. metsfan4decades

Phillips and MF – together. I can’t think of a more aggravating way to spend my afternoon.
The gushing MF was doing over the Phillies yesterday on the air was making me sick. Made me wonder if he would be that praise worthy if they were in the same division as his beloved Yankees.

    4. njstuckintx

Why would anyone ever consider anything that Steve Phillips to be true or accurate, unless you are an ESPN intern…

      1. asod75

Thank God I live in Florida and no longer have to listen to Fatcessa. A pairing of him and Phoolips is vomit-inducing, to put it nicely.

        1. Mr North Jersey

Wow he really got under your skin LoL.

      2. Mr North Jersey

I don’t think it is about being true or accurate but rather just a unique perspective.

        1. njstuckintx

I believe you said it best yesterday about the Titanic’s strucutral integrity having issues…

Steve Phillips… I’ve driven both my GM career and my TV career into the ground. Now let’s tackle the Radio!

          1. Mr North Jersey

            LoL Nice…
