Welcome Aboard Manny Acosta

Mlbtraderumors has reported that the Mets have claimed Manny Acosta off waivers. Tim Dierkes reports that according to a tweet from Mark Bowman of MLB.com “The #Braves placed RHP Manny Acosta on waivers and he was claimed by the Mets.

Manny Acosta this Spring has appeared in 6 games and over 7 innings pitched has allowed 6 hits 4 earned runs 5 walks and 10 strikeouts.

According to Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com’s article when they optioned Acosta, “If Scott Proctor (elbow surgery) isn’t ready for Opening Day, the Braves seem to have two bullpen spots left. And with Acosta gone, the front-runners are right-handers Jesse Chavez and Craig Kimbrel and left-handers Jonny Venters and Jo-Jo Reyes.

The 28-year-old Acosta has posted a 3.55 ERA spanning 103 relief appearances through three seasons with the Braves. Last year, his ERA was 4.34 in 36 games.

Update: According to a post by Michael Baron of MetsBlog “Acosta has been added to the 40-man roster, and will be optioned to Triple-A Buffalo.

surprised to see him waived with options remaining. But, must have been a real issue with the Braves 40 man.

Can’t hurt to have another power arm. Although it would be nice to eventually get one with some control.

I do expect we will see most all of them at some point.

And if he replaces Figgy, no Biggy!

just hope hes not a injured power arm ala escobar

at least acosta doesn’t cost much.

And excobar with any luck is ready to give the pen a boost mid season, right when they will probably need it.

With what we’ve seen so far this spring, the more healthy BP arms for depth we have, the better.

    Definitely an interesting arm.

My real concern is that he is “stuff” that needs to be straightened out, and used right. And I have zero faith that Warthen will do anything to help him, and that Jerry would use him right.

    Ill take him.

We need all the depth we can get, and hopefully the braves made a mistake. If he stinks we can just cut him.

Nice move here as Manny can also manage. LOL. But seriously the fact that he has options left but only ties up a 40 man spot is a good thing. If they end up losing Misch but gaining Acosta I suppose that’s an even trade.

with acosta and Parnell at Buffalo, the radar gun should be getting a nice workout.
