If Murphy goes on the 15 day DL to start the season, is it really worth bringing Ike up for 15 days to start the clock? If we call him up this early, doesn’t he pretty much have to stay up?

Otherwise….what are we looking at to start 1st base for 2 weeks? A platoon of who?

4D I was wondering if that would allow Carter to join the team?

      1. metsfan4decades

I’d love to see what Carter could do if giving a chance. Of course 15 days might be too small a sample size.
Not sure who yet that last spot on the bench was going to before this but IMO, it should not be Jacobs and I’d rather it be Carter than Cat.

          Wally Pip?
          :-)

Well played. Wouldn’t that be something?

I would guess that Jacobs would start at 1B and Carter and Catalonotto would battle it out for the final spot.

As much as I think Cat is a perfect fit for the lefty on the bench, I’d really like to see what Carter can do.

Hopefully, Murphy will be okay and Jacobs gets his walking papers.

        Ditto.

I see no real reason to go with Jacobs over Carter if for a just a 2 week period. If it’s going to be the entire year or something then I would go with Ike. Obviously nothing is showing the result being that serious.

      3. Mr North Jersey

I think Ed Coleman said yesterday he doesn’t believe Jacobs makes the team. He noted how he has been getting less ab’s also. I am just glad to discuss anything than the definition of realistic and optimistic (no offense Ceetar).

I see Figueroa is scheduled to pitch today. I wonder what the comments will be if he has another bad outing?
    :-)

If you took a poll I wonder how many would be honest and wondered if Murphy possibly going on the dl would not be a bad thing?

I think you are right about the 2nd part. (The first part I think I have realized is just nepotism.)

        Omar is Nelson’s father?

        1. Mr North Jersey

Thief! you stole that from Star Wars. :-P

        2. trs86

          LOL, no just NJ’s.

    2. Kingman 26

For me, I want to see what Murph can do; I KNOW what Jacobs can do, and Carter–eh.

And Figgy can throw a no-hitter or get lit up like a Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center; he still sux.

      1. Mr North Jersey

lol that would be awesome to see him pitch a no-no for Mets. I would love to see your reaction.

Kingman says Figueroa sucks = $0.01

Kingman watching Figueroa pitch Mets 1st no-hitter = PRICELESS

        :-)

    Regarding Reyes……
If he says his legs are good to go, and there is no evidence to the contrary by anyone watching him, then I’m inclined to let him go opening day.

As the article points out, guys get hurt everyday playing this game. You can only do what you can do to a point to prevent it.
Giving Reyes an extra week doesn’t seem like it will make a difference given the shape he’s currently in.

    1. Mr North Jersey

Minaya was quoted to say “Let’s get through today, and see how he bounces back.” So maybe if all goes well today the Mets may decide to bring him North.

What are the odds that the unnamed Met is Jerry Manuel?

    1. Mr North Jersey

      Nice…

  5. Kingman 26

Last year named and unnamed players whined about the training staff not taking injuries seriously and now this?

    Weak, dumb, and asinine.

    1. trs86

Perhaps the unnamed Met is Figgy? He likes to whine.

      1. Mr North Jersey

Wow I think If you took all that energy of coming up with Figueroa one-liners and channeled it you could possibly power Citi Fields.

The more you talk about Figueroa the more you sound like Cerrone when he constantly take ribs on Francesa. I keep telling you to stop going over there he is rubbing off on you.

        1. Kingman 26

Gotta side with the Chief here; Figgy has been a bum for a decade and talks as if he is Jamie Moyer or something…cannot wait to see him gone.

          1. Mr North Jersey

            LoL your funny.

      2. Kingman 26

        HA! You got that right!

  6. oleosmirf

I would rather see Carter over Jacobs in an instant…but we all know Jacobs will get the spot if Murphy cant go…
