Opening Day Meet Up The Update Has Been Updated !

UPDATE: With the announced opening of the Mets museum on opening day Shannon from Mets Police will be starting the meet up at 10 a.m instead of 10:30. We will still meet at the apple and then head over to be some of the first people to ever see the museum !!!! ( hopefully)

I just got a e-mail from Shannon over at Metspolice.com updating me on the status of his Opening Day Meet up of the Blue Cap Armythat he has invited us to attend, Here is the e-mail.
Hello Blue Cap Army!

I am very excited for opening day as you are, and thanks for signing up for our meet-up.

I have heard back from McFadden’s. They welcome us to come by on Monday!

Let’s assemble at the Apple (the one from Shea) which has migrated to a new home in front of the Jackie Robinson rotunda. I’ll be the guy in a pinstriped Mets jersey, last name “Mets Police” #86. For now let’s make the plan to meet at 10:30 unless the weather goes south. McFadden’s would be excited to see us between 11 and 1, and I still don’t know if the the Hall of Fame museum will even be open.

Some basic rules:
1. This is about fun. No negativity. We’re not there to be jerks to each other, we’re not there to make fun of your obscure Mets jersey nor will we walk around looking for mistakes on a brick. We will enjoy all the great modifications the Mets have made to Citi Field.
2. Wear a blue Mets cap. It is a blue cap army after all.
3. If you choose to go to McFadden’s, that’s of your own choice and you’re responsible for your own behavior. I personally plan to hang around the Apple until about 10:55, then will walk over to McFadden’s to avail myself of the special promotion they are running.
4. We’re not an actual army. We won’t be attacking anyone and firearms are not welcome.

I will also be there at around 10:15 ( I’ll be wearing my Rusty Staub 1985 throw back jersey) sharp so whoever is making it to opening day please stop by to say hi, mingle and possible get their fill of the alkeehol at McFaddens Pub. Please give me a heads up if you plan to attend.

Go check out Shannon’s site at http://metspolice.com/

I’ll be the antisocial guy milling in the back with last years BP cap and a Santana last season at Shea jersey.

  2. stickguy

I will be the guy sitting at home, probably watching it on my PC unless ESPN decides to put it on for me.

Damn I wish I could be there!!

Can we do another one if this one is a success?

I do, however, have to lodge a formal objection to rule #4.

      so move to israel lol

Mets claim Manny Acosta. Saw it on MLBtraderumors.

    1. Kingman 26

Yeah; have to be happy about just about ANY younger pitcher they pick up.

Acosta was pretty bad last year, but certainly has been decent in the past.

Have to get Bronson Arroyo if it is even remotely possible.

      1. asod75

Agreed on Arroyo, as long as they can hold on to Ike Davis, Mejia and F-Mart, I’m pretty much fine with dealing prospects (within reason, of course, no 4 or 5 for 1 monstrosities). Acosta is a power arm, certainly more useful than Dessens or Figgy. Would like to see maybe another waiver transaction, as sad to say, other team’s scraps may just be better than some of the guys in camp right now.

yeah you might be able to trade a gee kunz and kirk for him i believe

          1. asod75

Or even Kyle Allen, Kunz and Kirk since teams may not be interested in Gee due to the injuries. But agreed, that type of package might work.

        2. asod75

M’s just waived Ryan Garko. Would prefer him over Tatis as a righty bat off the bench, but I doubt the Mets would have any interest.

          1. rustyjr

tatis is omars lap dog – forget about him being released

          2. asod75

Yeah, I thought that too. Hey, Tatis was pretty good for this team two years ago, delivered some big hits. But last year, his bat seemed to slow and he was a DP machine. Why he was re-signed, I’ll never know. Oh yeah, see above post….

        3. asod75

Acosta added to 40-man and optioned to Buffalo, so there goes the idea of him replacing Dessens or Figs, at least for now.

          1. rustyjr

            i figured as much

          2. gategem

Perhaps it’s best to keep him away from Dan Warthen. Even in ST when you have what appears to be mass failure in the pitching staff you have to wonder what part does the pitching coach play in it.

          3. stickguy

            certainly not making them better.

Bring Ron down from the booth for a week and Ibet you see marked improvement.

Wish I could go. I’ll be catching it on SNY.
Contemplating taking the afternoon off so I can watch in peace. Now if the Mets will cooperate, it will be well worth it. Either way, I’m so looking forward to it.

For those going, have a great time. Hope Johan starts the season off right and pitches the game of his career.

I’ll be at Citi Field sometime around 11 if I can get my lazy butt out of bed (45 minutes subway ride from my friend’s place where I’m staying, I think). I’ll be the guy in the bright orange Mets shirt that says Fire Omar on the back with the number 00. :)
