Audio: Minaya explains Cuts

Here is audio of Omar Minaya discussing why he made cuts thanks to Brian Costa/The Star-Ledger

Minaya at one point says “sometimes options work against you“. I am sure that is Carter’s sentiments also.

Minaya says “sometimes options work against you”.

Says a lot as to possibly why Carter was sent down.

Forget his offense–for fun, check out his errors at first base; check out his errors and assists in the outfield—in 2008 in LF in AAA, he played 76 games in LF and had 4 errors and 1 assist!

      1. Mr North Jersey

        Yes a poor fielder indeed.

      2. asod75

Umm…as a bench bat, his defense is less important. Jacobs will be starting and he sucks royal (insert expletive here) defensively. Carter deserves a shot.

And I really liked Frank Catalanotto…5 years ago. Just don’t think he’s all that good right now. And he isn’t versatile. He used to be, but he’s not anymore.

          1. oleosmirf

            versatility is overrated.

If all goes to plan he is strictly a PH and never plays the field…

        2. Kingman 26

I disagree. Carter hasn’t improved–and has actually gotten worse in many stats–in 4 years in AAA.

Jacobs totally sucks, but at least he sucks at the MLB level.

          1. oleosmirf

its not like we have Keith Hernandez as the other option…is Jacobs that much better in the field compared to Carter that it actually makes any difference.

Jacobs in on the team b/c he can actually hit the ball over that RF wall and it leaves an additional guy in AAA to call up…

          2. Mr North Jersey

I respect your opinion I just don’t see how when you look at Carter’s situation as a whole you still say he has gotten worse.

I agree that if he was going to play off the bench you can see why he was sent down since he has always been a starter.

I just think if you look at what he did he deserved a shot to start but once that was not an option he was going to be sent down.

          3. Kingman 26

Thanks Mr North and I respect yours too.

          4. ceetar

Carter was ‘hot’ this Spring though. At least he’s making contact and getting hits. Ride that out, Murphy will hopefully be back in 3 weeks.

    2. stickguy

but it shouldn’t matter if the player without them being saved is catalenatto. He is way beyond easily replaceable.

  2. oleosmirf

I cant argue with Minaya sending Carter down but I wonder what the Mets long-term plan for Mejia is.

    1. Kingman 26

To let Jerry top Willie’s legacy, and not only leave as a disappointment, but to be promarily responsible for ruining our best pitching prospect since Kazmir.

      1. asod75

Indeed. Unbelievably short-sighted decision by the “brain” trust.

    2. Mr North Jersey

Long-Term? Right now they are focusing on short term and playing it by ear.

      1. oleosmirf

i mean if he’s that good then they should be developing him into a SP so that this time next year he is the rotation.

Santana, Lee/Webb/UFA, Pelfrey, Niese, Mejia would be an exciting rotation…

      2. stickguy

and short term is now memorial day, forget about the full year.

    3. Kingman 26

Hate to be the new captain of the Nabobs, but if it is indeed true that Jerry has made the decision to keep Mejia, then this team’s front office really may be as dysfunctional and incompetent as many suspect.

      1. darknova306

“Hate to be the new captain of the Nabobs, but”

Wow, I think my world has been turned upside down! :p

  3. metsfan4decades

    ‘Performance rotating situation’?
Is that like a traveling circus?

Sorry….I’m just kind of bummed here with these latest roster moves.

  4. Mr North Jersey

I understand why Carter didn’t make it. I don’t agree but I understand.

I understand why Figueroa didn’t make it. I don’t agree but I understand also.

I understand why Parnell didn’t make it. He needs more work and with Mejia on the team they have their fire-baller.

I understand why Mejia made team. I don’t agree though it is an act of desperation due to the fact that everyone else Minaya had has not pitched well enough to take the setup role. Escobar, Igarashi, Parnell, and Calero for now.

    1. oleosmirf

      agreed

    2. ceetar

It’s Jacobs and Tatis that bother me most. I’ll live with the other stuff. Green disturbs me a little, as he’s been a decent pitcher he just needs to cut out the walks. But his K/BB rate was 1 this spring. 8 BB. so not sure why. Had he only walked 1-2 in his 11 innings I would’ve understood.

If Mejia is awesome, he’ll be awesome in the bullpen and can sitll start next year. If he’s not ready, he’ll go to Binghamton and start, and still be able to start next year.

      1. Mr North Jersey

Ceetar did you hear? Tatis is the late defensive replacement for Jacobs. How bad is Jacobs that Tatis is an upgrade defensively? Ouch

  5. Mr North Jersey

Funny Strasburg and Chapman don’t make their teams but Mejia does.

    1. oleosmirf

still think we should have shelled out the cash for Chapman…

  6. oleosmirf

Looks like Buffalo is going to have a very good lineup next season…very important for player development and for depth purposes…

C: Thole, 1B: Davis, 2B: Tejada, SS: Adams, 3B: Bowman, LF: Feliciano, CF: Pridie, RF: Martinez, DH: Carter

    1. Mr North Jersey

Tejada is with the big club

      1. oleosmirf

for what one maybe 2 series, Reyes will most likely be back before the start of the minor league season on April 8th…

        1. Mr North Jersey

          Touche. :-)

    2. Kingman 26

      The Junior Core kicks ass!

      Make room for Nieuwenhuis!

      1. oleosmirf

there is pleny of room in Binghamton

  7. ceetar

hey, did you hear Chipper Jones has an ingrown toenail?

  8. tkfj

Omar Minaya is a dunce and will continue as one until he is removed from his post. Now is the difficult time to try to ignore one of the most incompetent FO’s in the game and root for the team I love. Lord help me.
