Gary Matthews Jr. may be an Angels reject, Mike Jacobs may be one of the worst first baseman in the bigs, Jerry may be a terrible game manager, and so on…but gosh-darn-it, it’s Opening Day and I’m psyched! And could we ask for better weather? The weather gods blessed us with afternoon highs around 20 degrees above normal today, and even higher Tuesday (though no Mets game) and Wednesday! I do think there’s a risk for an ocean breeze to hold temperatures a bit lower (hard to predict), but overall it’s looking like a fantastic week for baseball.
A couple of weather notes as I start the season with my forecasts – the temperatures in the forecasts are game-time temperatures, not daily highs. Also, cloud cover is often a topic of debate among forecasters and non-forecasters alike. Here’s the most common way we usually name cloud cover (or me, at least):
Sunny: 90-100% sun
Mostly Sunny: 70-90% sun
Partly Sunny: 50-70% sun
Partly Cloudy: 30-50% sun
Mostly Cloudy: 10-30% sun
Cloudy: 0-10% sun
Overcast: 0% sun
A very non-weather related reminder: don’t forget that a number of us will be hanging out in The Real Dirty Dugout this afternoon. If you can’t make it to the game, come and chat with fellow Mets fans as you watch the game on tv (or the computer for me) or listen to it on the radio!

my antiques PC has enough trouble keeping up with MLB.tv. If I try to fire up the dugout at the same time, it just about strokes out!
Also that minor problem of not being able to see the game while chatting. Guess I need to fire up a laptop too!
This weather is fantastic. But good thing they left Reyes in Fla. Wouldn’t want him to get hurt playing an early April game in NY!

Just in case anyone is interested, try looking through stubhub for any of this week’s game tickets (except for today’s game). There are some really good deals (like Delta club seats ~$100 or Metropolitan club seats less than $100).
