Real Dirty Mets Forecast 04-09-10

Hey all! We’re going old school for the next couple days as I’m out of town and forgot to transfer my template onto my laptop! Apologies for the not-so-slick version.

April 9 (Friday) – Mets vs Nationals -7:10 Citi Field – 55F, Partly Cloudy and windy! Gusts could get into the upper 20s.

April 10 (Saturday) – Mets vs Nationals – 1:10 Citi Field – 57F, Sunny and dry

April 11 (Sunday) – Mets vs Nationals – 1:10 Citi Field – 63F, Mostly Cloudy with a chance of light rain showers

Hopefully the Mets can redeem themselves against my lowly hometown Nationals. You have to feel good about Niese’s performance last night though!

Uh, oh – windy tonight? Looking at game 1, it appears some of our OF seem to have a bit of a problem with the wind tunnel out there when it’s a bit windy. Here’s hoping the Nats have even more trouble….

And I’m with you on Niese. Even though I of course would have liked to see a win last night – I was far less annoyed at that loss than the night before. Difference to me was I liked what I saw from Niese and not so much from Maine…..

To quote wrestlings own Jim ross – this is sure to be a sloberknocker !

      1. metsfan4decades

        LOL.

  2. DNDJohan aka kistics

This is terrible Prismo. I want the cool template back!

    j/k.. :)

Last night’s loss was disappointing since the pitching staff pitched well enough to keep them in the game.

It’s good that Frenchy hit well last night and Bay continues to show that he’s a very good player. I liked what I saw in Tejada defensively. He didn’t seem fazed by anything and was cool and calm. I think he can use little more experience at offense and can become Castillo’s replacement.

    1. njstuckintx

Agreed on Tejada. Those pooka shells have to go though.

      1. DNDJohan aka kistics

        LOL

I’ll be at the game tonight. Hopefully I can make it from Jersey in time to hit McFadden’s early, but I could see it taking me 90 minutes to get there.

    1. DNDJohan aka kistics

      Yum… McFadden’s..

      1. ceetar

Actually, if I go into the McFaddens entrance I may not get my magnetic calendar..

        1. DNDJohan aka kistics

can’t you go to the regular entrance and then go to McFadden’s?

          yum… McFadden’s…

          1. ceetar

no. I don’t think they’ve figured out bracelet technology for readmittance yet.

          2. DNDJohan aka kistics

Oh.. there’s no entrance to McFadden’s from inside the stadium?

          3. ceetar

There is, but you can’t get back in to the park. Not really sure that they’ve worked out all the kinks yet. There’s a stairway next to blue smoke that goes down towards it.

Hats off to Grave for being one of the Post game links to check out over on metsblog.

    1. trs86

      Saw that. Good job Grave.

Thanks for the headsup MF4D, and welcome back TRS!

      Way to go Grave!

Jorge de la Rosa is a free agent next year… interesting.

Anyone read Mike Silva’s article on Wright’s Vitamin Water ad?

    BFD

I had to leave Mike a little comment.

    1. Kingman 26

      Haha, nice comment; I agree!

      BFD is right.

      1. CaseStreet

yeah, Mrs. CaseStreet thought it was funny and that “David is so f’in hot!”

More importantly, is there room on the bridge?

    2. metsfan4decades

LOL – well, that’s what’s great about this country – everyone can voice their opinion on just about anything.

I’m thinking maybe it was just a slow sports news day and he had to come up with something to post about. I can’t really believe anyone would be that incensed about Wright doing that commercial. Then again, I read an article posted on the Christian Monitor (I believe) last year from a woman who attended a Philly post season game with her husband. She proceeded to equate all that’s wrong with this society with that ball game. From kids skipping school to attend, to adults spending the money to attend (instead of putting it to ‘better’ use), to the drinking and the booing and the language, blah, blah, blah. She actually lumped the entire stadium worth of attendees into one stereotype, exempting herself and her husband in that stereotype. Then she proceeded to say she’d pray for all. Needless to say, I believe it’s the highest number of comments she had ever received on one of her articles, or will likely receive again.

      Takes all kinds…

      1. CaseStreet

LOL. Well, at least she didn’t damn them to hell.

    3. ceetar

i find I disagree with him a lot. but BFD pretty much sums up that one.

    4. Mr North Jersey

Just read Mike’s article. I think Mike needs to come down to earth and join the real world. The ad in a time where we have SouthPark, MadTV, RobotChicken and Saturday Night Live is clearly just having fun with the concept of Situational training which Mike acknowledges so mission accomplished.

It is about having some fun while using what people in the 13 thru 30 bracket find popular plain and simple.

I find way more offensive the Tiger Woods ad using his dead father’s voice to sell Nike.

      1. ceetar

        I’ve watched/heard neither ads yet.

      2. Kingman 26

Totally agreed Mr N, and that Nike ad is disgusting.

But pretty much everything about the way Nike does business is revolting; years back they had a very nice ad giving all sorts of stats about how girls were more likely to succeed in life, not be in bad marriages, etc if they played sports….wonderful and true I am sure…the only problem is that Nike’s products are made by teenage girls in countries where they get no opportunity to play sports and make a couple of dollars a day in rotten oppressive conditions making Nike products.

A rotten company with a rotten leader.

File this question under the burning Real Dirty Blog questions that need answers.

Is that before and after picture of the chick on the right real?

    Discuss.

    1. rustyjr

Nothing is real & reality is just a strange illusion

    2. Kingman 26

HAHA! I must admit, I have wondered that myself….it could be before and after Photo Shop….

      1. udontmesswthejohan

Yeah probably right, but still I always enjoy her ad. I’m happy for her.

    3. trs86

      It’s all about the $.

  8. Mr North Jersey

    Prismo one word DropBox.

  9. metsfan4decades

Ed Coleman on WFAN right now. He voiced a disturbing stat I noticed myself at ST….Last two weeks of ST, the Mets had something like a .200 BA with runners in scoring position.

I noticed all those runs we seemed to be getting in earlier on were coming from guys not expected to be on the 25 man roster – Davis, FMart, Carter, etc. Here’s hoping it’s the loss of Reyes and Beltran in ST which contributed to that.

Also, Joe and Evan really going on about Wright’s poor throwing ability making those throws to first. Hinted at when they start thinking about moving him off third. I agree his one problem in the field are some of those throws he makes. When it starts costing games, I’ll start worrying about it.

    1. ceetar

That’s too negative to me. Wright’s a very good third baseman, and I don’t know what’s up with the throws sometimes, and it’s not like it’s arm strength. More like it’s mental. He needs to relax sometimes, as evidenced by him usually making the hard play but struggling on the more routine throws. Once Murphy gets back and Davis (I’m going to look this up, but please tell me Davis is a lefty? this might even be worth a whole post. David needs a lefty..) takes over eventually I think we’ll see less errors from Wright.

      1. ceetar

        YES! He’s a lefty! woo!

        1. metsfan4decades

Yes! Because according to Keith, the only ‘natural’ first baseman are lefties. Said you can play a competent first base as a righty but it’s always going to be a bit harder.

          1. ceetar

As a natural lefty, I agree!

Does anyone know if Delgado or Murphy are natural lefties that chose to field/throw righty? (which doesn’t seem to make sense) or righties that learned to hit lefty?

          2. trs86

Lots of guys end up starting as SH but throw RH. I am not sure what their dominant hand is. I see quite frequently where kids are all confused. Write with one hand, throw with another and swing different than they throw.

          3. ceetar

It’s interesting. Also, Delgado and Murphy didn’t come up through the system as 1B where they might have been more inclined to throw/field lefty.

          4. CaseStreet

no, Delgado’s dad had him swing lefty, though he’s a natural righty.

    2. Kingman 26

Yeah, every time Wright charges a ball, and makes an off-balance throw, it is right on the money.

Seems as though his bad throws always come when he has time and is in throwing position. Has to be mental/mechanics.

  10. CaseStreet

Hey, anyone notice Castillo’s range yesterday?

Made two nice plays on balls hit behind 2nd.

    1. ceetar

Castillo is fine (and this is while he was hurting!).

    2. trs86

Hey Case, no morning thread today?

      1. CaseStreet

Didn’t have time, but I’ve got something coming up in a few.

    3. metsfan4decades

LOL – well that leaping play to grab a ball going over his head must have cost him. Castillo will be out of the line up tonight with a ‘barking’ calf.

      1. ceetar

the calf happened Opening Day supposedly.

        Green?

        1. Kingman 26

Green should be in Philly with Figgy.

          Of course I meant Mejia.

Looked jittery and in need of another pitch in his one inning the other day.

          But sure throws hard.
