    Ike Davis’s 1 hit was a homer.

  2. stickguy

Ok, some one has to take the lead here.

    Free Nick Evans!

Oh, and Find Zapata, so he can be freed too!

    1. Mr North Jersey

Keep in mind he is facing AA Pitching.

      1. stickguy

so were the Mets, and it didn’t help them.

      2. ceetar

You don’t lose any points if you occasionally whiff harder than Mike Jacobs.

  3. Mr North Jersey

Hey if you didn’t know the Mets have 2 promising arms on the hill tonight.

The next Mejia Armando Rodriguez will be pitching for the Sand Gnats tonight and Beaulac will be pitching for St Lucie.

    1. metsfan4decades

Jerz, I’ve noticed you’ve been encouraging all of us to check out these minor league games. Are you single handedly trying to save our sanity by trying to get us to listen to something other than the big club?
      LOL.

      1. asod75

I check what’s going on with the minor-league affiliates every night as well. It’s a much more rewarding experience than the big-league games, that’s for sure.

      2. Mr North Jersey

:-) 4D, I can’t remember the last time there was this much worth watching in the minors.

It is about the only thing I can hang my Mets Cap on while I wait to see what the pitchers in the big club do.

I know that most of these arms I am following will never see the big club but if just 1 or 2 from the group can break through that is more than enough to change the outlook for the future.

I really am looking to see what St Lucie can do this season. Beaulac, Familia, Allen, have some potential worth watching.

        1. metsfan4decades

I agree. This is the first year in a long time I actually know who most of the players and pitchers are at AAA – and even some of them in double A and single A ball!

    2. DNDJohan aka kistics

Is that a real name? Mejia Armando Rodriguez?

      1. Mr North Jersey

        LoL what do you think?

      2. GravediggerHebner

No he’s Armando Alberto de Jesus Rodriguez.

I can’t recall how it all unfolded but somehow during spring training he became “the next Mejia.”

        1. Mr North Jersey

          That credit goes to Minaya.

  4. ceetar

who says the Mets don’t have minor league depth? Bisons 3B is the active HR leader: 313.

  5. CaseStreet

So is Kunz a lost cause?

    Go Junior Core!

    1. asod75

Don’t know yet. He’s starting now, and he allowed just two hits (both left the yard). However, he recorded 12 ground ball outs and no flyball outs and was especially effective the first three innings. Probably tired a bit, as he’s not used to being a starter, I’m sure.

  6. GravediggerHebner

I was distracted and only half listening but I thought I heard Francesa earlier today suggest that Ike Davis will be with the Mets when they return from this road trip. Did anybody hear that more clearly to lend some context to what I think I heard?

    1. DNDJohan aka kistics

At this point anybody is better than Jacobs. I’ll take half-hip Delgado over Jacobs.

    2. Mr North Jersey

      I haven’t heard that Grave.

      1. GravediggerHebner

I’m sorry I can’t be more specific I was “lawyering” in the manager change thread and only half-heard the reference. All I can say is it occurred sometime between 1:00pm and 2:30pm because after that I turned off the radio.

My very vague recollection was it was said along the lines of “depending on how this road trip goes the Mets are going to have to recall Davis by the next homestand to give the fans some reason to go to the ballpark” or something along those lines. I don’t think it was insider info, I think it was him taking a moment to “stick and carrot” Met fans. “They suck but they have this kid.”

        1. Mr North Jersey

Francesa is trying to run the team from the mic.

    3. metsfan4decades

I didn’t have it on today but this sounds like MF’s style.
He says something like it’s a fact, but in actuality it’s only his opinion.

Going into the last week of ST, I heard him say:
‘The Mets will add an arm to the starting rotation before they break camp’

I kept listening and what he was REALLY saying was, based on the ST starts the Mets starters had up to that point, they have no choice but to pick up another starter before the season starts. If they don’t, they won’t compete. (and on and on). It was really only his opinion but he delivers it with a style that makes you think he’s got some insider info.

      1. GravediggerHebner

and I keep getting sucked in like the sucker I am. I think I need to tune my radio to a different station, then break off the dial. Only problem is the Mets are on that station.

        1. Mr North Jersey

VCarver would say that if Francesa is saying the Mets should bring Davis up it must be a trap because he (Francesa) is eeeeeevilll.

          1. ceetar

it’s because Murphy kicked his dog.

          2. ceetar

I’m surprised he doesn’t like Jacobs. Seems like his style of player.

          3. Mr North Jersey

Well Davis is the son of a former Yankee.

          4. ceetar

            doh. i’d forgotten. of course.

  7. Mr North Jersey

Tatis is in at 1st tonight and Pagan is batting 8th with Reyes Castillo batting 1,2.

    1. stickguy

Jerry really does do some odd things.

      1. ceetar

Pagan isn’t exactly a lightweight that it’d be a disaster batting him 6th. i like it as Reyes-Castillo, but I’d still go Wright – Bay – Frenchy – Pagan – Barajas – Tatis after that.

        1. GravediggerHebner

Interesting lineup (I mean that as a slight toward Jerry’s lineup, not yours Ceet). Not even bothering to think about where I’d bat him but I’d be starting Matthews Jr. who is 1 of the 2 current Mets to have ever faced Greg Smith before and who is 5 for 15 off him (all singles, 2 RBI, 1 BB). If ever he had an “excuse” to start GMJ it would be against the guy he’s seen and hit .333 off in my opinion.

          1. ceetar

Hard to bat him after how he’s done lately, which bears more meaning to me than past history.

I really just don’t like Tatis, but not a lot of 1B options on the majors team right now.

          2. GravediggerHebner

Maybe tonight could be that elusive start for Cat you were mentioning the other day, although probably not since Smith is LH.

          3. trs86

And Cat is like 0-6 with a few k’s.

  8. trs86

IF you are going to be just plain odd why not bat Pagan 9th? What purpose does he have at all batting 8th?

To me batting Pagan 8th in this lineup is just as insane as Cora 1st or Jacobs 4th.

    1. metsfan4decades

My question is, if Pagan and Tatis are in the line up, why is Tatis batting above Pagan?

    2. Kingman 26

      Totally agree.

He has lots of extra base hit potential, and should hit 6th, with Tatis 7th and Barajas 8th.

      1. metsfan4decades

I think we should start a pool on how many lineups we see from Jerry before all is said and done. LOL.

I’ll bet none of us comes close……

    3. ceetar

Bench players/part time players/catchers are the ones that bat 8th. So Tatis/Barajas. And this is an example of how Manuel feels about Pagan, despite the results. A bench player.

      1. trs86

I have no idea what the thoughts are. Who the hell knows?

        1. ceetar

          oh..

          geeze..

apparently, his ‘justification’ for batting Pagan 8th is he wants to see how he does batting 2 spots in front of Reyes.

          1. trs86

LOL I hope you are making that up.

          2. ceetar

            I’m really not. :-(

          8. metsfan4decades

            What????

Someone should start writing down these Jerrisms. Could write a book on the most bizarre thinking of a manager – ever.

  9. Mr North Jersey

    What did I say,

    “Mr North Jersey says:
    Monday, April 12 2010 at 10:16 am

    When is that?
I mean when is that moment when the season has creeped away?
Is it when we fall 10 games below 500?
Is it when we fall 15 games behind a playoff spot?
I ask because if we are talking about firing people 6 games in we must be close.

Jerry’s choice of words “unprepared” just shows his stupidity. I will not be surprised to hear in the next day or two Jerry saying that it was a poor choice of words.

    Tweet today from Adam Rubin:
“Jerry said “unprepared” may have been wrong word for Sunday vs. Livan. Poor execution of game plan definitely.”

    1. GravediggerHebner

Don’t pull a muscle patting yourself on the back, we can’t afford to put you on the DL right now. :-)

      1. Kingman 26

Grave I was not saying your previous post was pro-Jerry; sorry if I was not clear.

And I LOVE the title Grave Notions.

        1. GravediggerHebner

OK cool, I didn’t necessarily think you did but since the phrase “for Jerry” was in there I wanted to elaborate by splitting the fine hair of the argument to note that my stance was very specifically anti-mid-season managerial firing as a general thing.

I was one of the “pro-Jerry” guys when he was hired initially but the luster has long since worn off of that. And I do think there are pros to the idea of firing him nonetheless just because he IS Jerry. But the point of my post, which I took advantage of your use of the phrase “for Jerry” to embellish with my comment there, was that mid-season firings tend not to be good for the long term benefit of the team.

      2. Mr North Jersey

LoL too late I think I pulled a muscle in my index finger cutting and pasting the above. :-P

    2. metsfan4decades

I remember your post. You called it.

When Jerry becomes predictable, you know it’s getting scary.

    3. oleosmirf

June 15th is when you know what kind of team you have

  10. metsfan4decades

    Someone help me out here….
My Met schedule says the game starts at 8:40pm tonight. Metsblog has it starting at 8pm. Did they change the time? Or is this more of the same old same old over at FWIGC.com?

    1. Mr North Jersey

FWICG is wrong Mets.com says 8:40

      1. metsfan4decades

        Thanks!

        1. metsfan4decades

Ah…I see he fixed his post to read game time 8:40pm.

      8:00 Pregame, 8:30 Game

I wonder if MC has a spot on tonight and is trying to get viewership through misinformation.

  11. Mr North Jersey

    .John Maine’s appearances so far.

    Spring Training

      1.2/IP 2/H 1/R 1/ER 1/BB 4/SO 5.40/ERA

      0.2/IP 3/H 5/R 5/ER 3/BB 0/SO 23.14/ERA

      4.0/IP 4/H 2/R 2/ER 0/BB 1/SO 11.37/ERA

      5.0/IP 3/H 2/R 2/ER 2/BB 1/SO 7.94/ERA

      4.2/IP 6/H 4/R 4/ER 4/BB 2/SO 7.88/ERA

      Regular Season

    5.0/IP 8/H 4/R 4/ER 1/BB 3/SO 7.20/ERA

    What will he do tonight?

    1. trs86

      Based on that, I would guess, 5.2 innings 7 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3K’s.

      1. Mr North Jersey

I would actually be ok with that at this point.

      2. metsfan4decades

        I’m going with 6 innings, 2 ER.

        1. Mr North Jersey

          Even Better!

    2. stickguy

I’m going with the first Met no hitter, but he might need some help from the pen to finish it out.

    3. GravediggerHebner

I’m gonna guess he’s going to be wild because he’s had an extra day of rest ;-)

  12. Mr North Jersey

GRAVE: Did you get a chance to look into the cordless phone situation?

    1. GravediggerHebner

No. I’m one of those guys who HAS TO HAVE the instruction manual in front of him before daring to flip a switch or slide a knob, and I haven’t located them yet. But I wrote down your points about channels and frequencies so when I find them I’ll be giving it a try. Thanks again for the heads up on that.

Overall it’s not that much of an issue, phone use in this household is sporadic at best. We’ll go weeks without using it at all, then spend 2 1/2 hours on one call.

      1. Mr North Jersey

No problem at all Mr Grave. ;-)

I’m glad to hear the loss of internet situation is something that rarely occurs.
