Toby Hyde of Metsminorleagueblog.com who is also the radio voice of the Mets Class A team the Savannah Sand Gnats on 630 WMBQ had this to say after watching Mets young prospect Wilmer Flores go 2-3 with a walk and an RBI as the Savannah Sand Gnats beat the Augusta GreenJackets 4 to1.
“In 33 AB, he’s (Flores) now drawn one walk and has not struck out. His ability to make contact is just crazy good. He also made another strong throw from the outfield grass to nail a slowish runner at first. For my money, he has the best infield arm in the system.”
Here is video of Flores going the other way for a single and a double back on April 9th vs the West Virginia Power provided by bygranddesign of YouTube.

If the junior core is a Buffalo, does that make him part of the baby core? Diaper core?
ANyway, getting the bat on the ball is certainly a good trait. As long as it also reflects a good eye, and he gets more selective as he goes up the ladder (so more walks) it is a real good thing.
The problem comes in when the guy swings at everything. You can get away with that at the lower levels, but as the pitchers get better, they will eat him up.

Thank you for this MNJ! I just got back from Savannah and was hoping I could break free of business stuff to head over and catch a game and I was wondering how Mr. Flores was doing. I may be back their in June and I’ll try again if I can. I was surprised to read that the Sandgnats have been in existance since 1908. Their quite the fixture down there.
