MF this afternoon is claiming the Mets told him in ST that they didn’t think Mejia would be a starter. He said if they’re still of that mindset, then having him up here in the BP is really no big deal.
Said he’s 6 foot, thin and small framed and generally guys that small don’t fare up well pitching every 5 days as a starter.
He’s only 20, which for boys/men sometimes means they’ve get to fill out completely yet, but I’m thinking even if he does, he’ll be similar to Billy Wagner.
It wouldn’t surprise me to see them take their sweet time determining what to do with him. And I’ll bet circumstances (poor performance, injuries, etc.) concerning other pitchers will more determine what they finally decide to do. Sort of like Ike Davis, who I’m sure they started off thinking he needed at least a half year down in AAA but because of poor production at first, reversed that decision.

“thin and small framed and generally guys that small don’t fare up well pitching every 5 days as a starter.”
Didn’t the Dodgers say the same thing about Pedro? I’m not trying to put Mejia on Pedro’s level, but a guy with the talent Mejia has should be given the opportunity to develop as a starter instead of just dismissing it out of hand. Of course, I’m not a baseball talent evaluator, so what the hell do I know?

Pedro was one of the best of his generation, do doubt about it. But just for speculation sake, he did start to break down in his early 30s. But 10-12 years of that kind of talent on the team? I think most would take it.
I’m with you, I have no idea how one goes about evaluating this kind of thing.

BTW for what it’s worth (which isn’t much) Niese’s 5th strikeout to end the 4th inning was just awesome.

I suppose it would’ve been better to mention this when you first made these great player cards but Niese spells his full first name

According to the script my line here is:
I was so in awe of the beauty of the cards that I didn’t notice.
You always know what to say.
I fixed it thanks again for the heads up I wonder how many were actually aware of the typo?

Here is something to munch on.
Was over at Yahoo Sports checking out how our starters are fairing 3 starts into the season with some starters that was rumored about in the off season that the Mets should look into trying to get.

Nice, need to add Randy Wolf and Doug Davis. Anyone else we are missing? Harrang?

This is EXCELLENT and thanks for posting it.
Liked Sheets and still like Roy Harvey Oswalt.
Marquis–over 2 hits allowed per inning!

Gonna have to look at the game logs, cuz Arroyo being 0-1, 4.95 doesn’t jive with a WHIP of 1.10 and a BAA of .200.
Someone toss Marquis into that little trash can next to his name, he’s garbage.
4/20/2010-6:27pm at 6:27 pm (UTC -4)
LoL, Does he fit with that bloated era?
it is mindboggling that, as bad as Maine has been, Marquis somehow has still managed to almost double his ERA!
