I like Pridie right where he is. He’s insurance. If they cut GMJ and bring up Pridie, they’ve thinned their insurance/depth, and after 2009 I want as much depth as possible especially after the most recent reports on CBelt.

It’s great to see Thole get his average up over .100.

Even though he’s repeating a level, it’s nice to Gronauer hitting. I read a great interview with him in the Savannah paper last year and took a shine to him so good for him. He’s a long way from home (Germany).

I had asked yesterday that of FMart, Pridie and Capt Kirk N. who should come up if Beltran is out for a long time and a Centerfielder is needed?

Someone then commented at least we have better choices this year compared to last year when we had to choose between Reed and Sullivan.

GMJ looks like a sub-MLB player that based on his veteran rep is going to get ab’s and hurt the team. He is now hitting 185/290/259-.550. Depth is wonderful… if it’s actual production but right now GMJ is a NEGATIVE value. We already have Tatis and Cat as potential backup OF plus Fernando Martinez, Nick Evans, Chris Carter.

        All fair points.

Who knows what Jerry Manuel will actually do going forward, but what I’ve taken from various recent media reports is that “the GMJ experiment” is largely over and Jerry has realized that Pagan is the far superior player and will thus receive the bulk of playing time.

Therefore relegating GMJ to occasional pinch-hit/double switch/Sunday duty, which is what I always thought his role on this team should be and I’m fine with him in that role. It’s semi-regular starting that I find unacceptable.

As far as depth I’m looking at it very specifically in the context of CF, not just OF. I would never put Tatis, Cat, Evans or Carter in CF, and I’d prefer if FMart is in the majors that he start regularly.

So the role I’m speaking about is that of back up CF, and for that role I’m fine with GMJ here and Pridie behind him. While Beltran is out, should Pagan or GMJ become injured Pridie can then step in. If GMJ is cut now and Pridie is brought up, there is no one in the organization (that I want) to step into a major league back up CF role.

Grave if Pagan plays 5 out of every 6 games then I will be “fine” with GMJ but anything less than Pagan being the “starter” and GMJ his backup is simply a bad decision. I have nothing against GMJ as a person and wanted him to come here and do well but he looks absolutely lost and this isn’t a guy (like a Sheffield) with a track record that says “hell bounce back”

          1. dirtysanchez

problem is from what i hear he has a sheffield like rep(attitude) about not getting fair playing time. Sort of how he made his way out of Anaheim. Lets just hope he is on his best behavior

Yeah my whole stance is based on the team utilizing GMJ ‘the right way.’ If they don’t then I’m with you 100% Metro.

As far as what Dirty says here, I don’t know for sure how GMJ will react but I do remember reading multiple testimonials from his LA teammates and Scioscia saying that GMJ did a great job keeping his playing time stance off the field and out of the locker room.

From what they said he was a model citizen who ‘at the appropriate time and in the appropriate place’ expressed his dissatisfaction. Will that last? I don’t know.

Guys help me out here. I need situational stats based on position in the lineup. I found it one time but now I can’t find one that will also break it down based on RISP or leading off an inning.

    1. Mr North Jersey

      MLB.com has it

      1. Mr North Jersey

oh no you mean lineup strike what i said

        1. metro

baseballreference.com and then splits. it has everyone by position in lineup

          1. trs86

But I can’t break it down based on leading off an inning.

I had stats that showed which spot in the lineup lead off the inning the most.

          2. GravediggerHebner

No clue. If you found it before hopefully you’ll recall where that was.

My “usual suspects” would be ESPN, baseball reference, FanGraphs, mlb.com, cbs sports.

When I can’t find something at one of those I usually stop looking.

          3. Mr North Jersey

            Exactly

          4. Mr North Jersey

He basically wants to split the splits.

          5. trs86

Yup, MLB does double splits but position in the order is not one of them.

  3. metro

ah ok. I know it exists just not sure which site. Zach Lutz just hit his 5th homer of the year

    1. trs86

Yeah I found it once and can’t find it for anything now. At the time it showed that the #5 spot lead off an inning the 2nd most.

  4. metro

Evans, Lutz and Kirk N are rolling!

    1. Mr North Jersey

      Awesome!

Will Carroll claims that Beltran has had ZERO progress in his knee:(

  6. metro

It was the first time the Mets had seen the explosive speed from Reyes that had been missing from the lineup for more than 10 months and his teammates noticed. “He is such a dynamic player,” said Jeff Francoeur, “and his impact cannot be truly measured. In this game, when he hit that triple it was a scoreless game but once he did what he did, I never really felt the Cubs were in the game.”

    BTW,

    Kirk Nieuwenhuis is currently
    1st in At Bats
    3rd in Runs
    2nd in Hits
    5TH in Doubles
    Tied for 6th in RBI’s
Tied for 3rd in Total Bases

    1. stickguy

Pagan just keeping a spot warm for him.

I had him pencilled in as the starter in 2012, but with the ongoing beltran saga, if he keeps this up much longer, you could be seeing him well before that.
