Someone help me out, what is the purpose of Nick Evans in AA? .396 .450 .736 1.186?? Is it to build trade value? Shouldn’t he at least be manning a corner in AAA?

I was thinking the same thing. Why is he not in AAA?

a combination of the bizarro 2009 and too many players in aaa. aa was only way he could play every day. should probably take ikes 1b job in aaa now.

Carter is back baby!
send Cat on his way. Although I guess that does set up an issue when Murphy comes back (I assume he takes over Cats spot, but who knows if he goes to AAA instead).
With this FO, anything is possible.

Off Topic,
Couple trade ideas
When the Mets are still in the race come July and Ollie/Maine aren’t exactly putting it together (similar to now), do the Mets trade for a SP? If so, what type of pitcher? I see 2 types of pitchers that the Mets can go after. Webb/Oswalt or Meche/Harang/Arroyo/Milwood. Obviously the latter group is more accessible than the former, but if the DBack/Astros are out of the race, I could definitely see the possibility.
If the Mets are out of the race come July, I think Beltran might be a trade candidate. I think BoSox would definitely be interested. In return, the Mets could ask for one or two top level prospects (Bucholz or Bard). I know it’s impossible to replace what Beltran can give you at his position, but by moving him, you can free up his salary and you get prospects whereas if Beltran walks, you get nothing in return. I know I’ve said this number of times, but Beltran’s contract prevents the Mets from offering arbitration after his contract is up. So, essentially you would get nothing in return if he walks.

hard to define out of the race, but I will give my $.02 anyway.
1st, I doubt Beltran goes anywhere. At this point, it is likely he won’t even be back by then (and if so, just barely). So it is not likely that the Red SOx would offer very much, and there is still the issue of the no trade clause + borass to overcome.
But, if they could get soemthing good back, have to consider doing it, but I really don’t seem them that far out of the race (and willing to give up his production for 2011 also).
If they are in it? Probably the SP will be pretty good, but I could see them ging after a Millwood type. IOW, a salary dump without much going back prospect wise.
I really don’t see them opening up the MiL vault and trying to get a real stud Like Lee. And Oswalt scares me (physical condition + age + contract), and still don’t think Houston will be reasonable.

Beltran’s amount owed, NTC, and injury would keep us from getting anything of value.

But BoSox is desperate too. Their offense is far worse than Yanks and Rays.
MF was talking to Gammons about this. Ortiz might not be useful anymore, VMart is not a good catcher and should be the DH. Their IF is pretty much set. Their OF needs big time help with injuries.
So, Beltran seems like the perfect candidate. I realize that there are couple hurdles to get over, but IF (BIG IF) the Mets are willing to part with Beltran, BoSox seems to be a good candidate.
As for Beltran’s perspective, why not go to Boston? From the rumors, he till has a grief over what happened during the winter and BoSox will be a contending team. Boras would love move Beltran to Boston where he’ll get a lot more exposure (This is under the assumption that the Mets are completely out of the race).
The amount owed could be a problem, but if Boston is desperate enough, it might work out. Plus, it’s not like Beltran will be a complete bust. His production will easily justify $$ owed.

Don’t you think Beltran could hold out for a contract extension. But besides the point, we don’t even know what his production will be or if he will stay healthy. With that contract and injury concerns you get nothing of value. It would be different if he was healthy.
stickguy
4/22/2010-2:48pm at 2:48 pm (UTC -4)
problem is, they are desperate now. And since Beltran is still shut down, it is very unlikely he is back on the field before July. And then he has to play a bit to prove he is healthy (and likely to stay that way), and can still hit.
Now, if he was already back and looking good, I could see the Sox making a play, but that Mets also wouldn’t be trading him yet.
COme the trade deadline? WHo knows how CB is, and whether either team is actualy still in the race!

I hope the Mets are not at a situation where they have to think about trading Beltran.

It’s good to see the B-Mets are hitting on all cylinders. Evans 3rd year at AA he has always hit well there according to Baseball-Reference. Now with Davis on the big club I hope they promote Evans soon to AAA when they decide that Davis is going to be here for a long time to see if Evans can finally hit at the AAA level since last season he struggled there.

Unfortunately most likely depends on what Jacobs does. Any news there?

I find it hard to believe that they would let Jacobs stand in the way of Evans development but then again these are the Mets.

Yup and you know how in the past AAA has been an old folks home. I think with Davis being a rookie and Murphy being injured they will try and hold on to Jacobs if possible.

last I heard he cleared waivers (no surprise there I guess), but had not decided what to do. So I guess he is in limbo, but I really have no idea how long he gets to make up his mind.
I hope he goes away, and they can just figure out 1B in Buffalo from the available options. Evans being a likely candidate.

FYI Chris Carter is 2 for 3 so far today with 2 doubles and a rbi as he is filling in at 1st quite well offensively since Ike left he is currently hitting .286.
In that game B-Mets starter Gee has pitched well so far through 5 he gave up 2 earned runs so far.

4/22/2010-3:06pm at 3:06 pm (UTC -4)
AAA right?
First runs Gee has given up this year I think. Maine needs to pitch well or Gee will be here soon.
NJ is Carter playing 1B since Ike left or still OF?
Mr North Jersey
4/22/2010-3:17pm at 3:17 pm (UTC -4)
Don’t know I’d have to look at the past box scores but he is definitely playing 1st today.
Gee would have to be placed on the 40-man also since he is currently not on it.
He is the closest thing we have to a young starting pitcher being ready for the Bigs.

4/22/2010-3:22pm at 3:22 pm (UTC -4)
Not much of a problem getting Gee on the 40 man. Just cut the Cat or GMJR (or 60 Day Escobar).
Just looked and Carter has indeed been playing 1B since Davis has left. Thus looks like Evans would be out of a position again if brought up. Unless he’s going to DH or play OF but even the OF spots are limited. I guess he could play LF over Feliciano but he’s done well.

He’s played a little 3B and our AAA 3B is my age so there’s a slot I guess.

Well b4 Davis came up Carter was DH’ing don’t see why Carter can’t go back to that if Evans is brought to AAA.

I was really hoping the St Lucie rotation would have gotten off to a better start in hopes to see some of them make it to AA this year but right now that doesn’t look good.
Eric Niesen down in AA has a chance of making some noise before all is said and done also.

Just got back from watching the Bisons game at Frontier Field.
Have to say, it was nice to see a team not only hit with the bases loaded, but also just plain hit with runners in scoring position. Parnell looked really good for his 3 innings.
Despite his 3 K’s, Pridie looked solid. And it was nice seeing the Junior Core have a solid 6th inning: Thole with a 3 RBI double followed by F-Mart’s double. That really broke the game open.

Great to hear Nova the atmosphere must of been great. What was your impression of Gee?
darknova306
4/22/2010-4:58pm at 4:58 pm (UTC -4)
Well, the atmosphere was mostly quiet given Buffalo was the away team and there were only about 4300 people there (40 degrees outside and a 1pm start).
Gee didn’t have control of his breaking pitches in the first couple innings, falling behind a lot with lots of full counts. Good things that when he missed, he didn’t miss over the plate where they could slam the pitch. He started shaky but found a way to make the pitches he had to to stay out of trouble.
Also, Parnell looked pretty good with some nice sinking action on some of his pitches.

My only gripe with the ballpark is that I couldn’t find any display of pitch speeds. That would have helped give me a better impression of how Gee was really doing.
Gonna try to get out to Buffalo soon to see these guys at home.

If you do go out to Buffalo let us know before you go. I would love to maybe see if it is ok with the guys to have you possibly write a lil something of your day possibly if you have a digital camera a picture or two.
Of course so long as that is ok with you also.
