BTW looking ahead if anyone is looking at going to watch a Bisons game you might want to keep an eye on their Sunday May 2nd or Monday May 3rd game vs the Louisville Bats. If things break right Aroldis Chapman is scheduled to pitch one of those 2 games.
By the way if you go on Monday the Bisons have a Ollie’s Bargain Monday promotion.
Every Ollie’s Bargain Monday features a $7.00 Ticket and $1.00 Popcorn and Ice Cream at the concession stands.
damn, I can’t beleive they didn’t get more involved with the bidding on chapman. 30 or 5 years (or was it 6?), so 5 or 6 mill/year, was not exactly a huge risk to take. Pretty much just gets you 3 years of a FA mid-rotation guy like Wolf. Or ollie!
of course that goes without saying. But given what it costs to sign FAs nd other international guys, it seemed like a reasonable amount to invest just in case.
According to Cot’s contract he got 6 years/$30.25M (2010-15).
The contract though is designed in such a way that if he is a bust the financial burden of paying him is spread out over the next 10 years.
The 30.25 is divided up with 1 part being a 16.25M signing bonus that is paid out over the next 10 years as follows:
2010 – $1.5M
2011 – $1.5M
2012 – $1.5M
2013 – $1.5M
2014 – $1.25M
2015 – $1.25M
2016 – $1.25M
2017 – $1.25M
2018 – $1.25M
2019 – $1.25M
2020 – $1.25M
Total: $16.25M
Then he also gets a yearly salary of:
2010 – $1M
2011 – $1M
2012 – $2M
2013 – $2M
2014 – $3M
2015 – $5M (player option)
Total: $14M

My Opinion still remains He was a worthwhile risk/investment.
