    We believe in getting dirty.

This is my favorite slogan of the 2010 season.

Lineup is what I would have guessed, after they announced Reyes would be batting third.

I know everyone around here is saying time to shake things up (or stretch the lineup out) because the current lineup is not working, I’m just not a firm believer that these moves make a long term difference. Also these shakeups have more impact when the lineup is stagnant and that will never be the case with Manuel. Having Castillo get more ABs a game than Wright or French is just mind-boggling to me. It would probably make more sense to bat Castillo 9th then to bat Reyes 3rd, but that’s just me and will probably get flamed for that comment.

And yet if they go out and score 10 runs what will be said tomorrow I wonder?

      1. saltygary

but that’s one game and in 16 most of the team is not hitting. Is shuffling the lineup and giving Reyes and Wright less AB’s really a long term solution?

Moving the lineup around doesn’t do anything to take the monkey off the back or the elephant out of the stadium. This guys are putting a crazy amount of pressure on themselves and have not been comfortable for a long time. Having empty stadiums and folks booing only adds to this.

These guys need therapy, drugs and motivational speakers not a lineup shift.

I don’t think you need to worry about this being a long term solution Salt.

This is specifically to try and get these Bats going by just changing things up a bit.

The strategy of changing the lineup to try and jump start a offense is as old as baseball itself.

everything goes back up in the air if Beltran ever comes back, although there is 0% chance that happens in the the next 2 months.

          2. saltygary

But that goes to my other point, this lineup has had changes to it all year so I don’t think this is really going to do anything. I’m thinkin more of the issue is lack of stability and not getting comfortable.

          3. Mr North Jersey

Fair points and I am not suggesting that you are wrong to say that but rather there are only so many things a manager can do and right now this is something Jerry has wanted to do for a while and finally has the chance to implement it.

If it fails I would expect your scenario is one that will also be looked at also.

Wright will get more AB with Castillo second than Pagan.

        Meh I can’t see that…

        NAME BA OBP SLG OPS
        David Wright 0.241 0.446 0.463 0.909
        Ike Davis 0.4 0.438 0.467 0.904
        J. Francoeur 0.279 0.352 0.508 0.86
        Jason Bay 0.224 0.348 0.293 0.641
        Luis Castillo 0.265 0.345 0.327 0.671
        Angel Pagan 0.261 0.333 0.326 0.659
        Jose Reyes 0.226 0.288 0.302 0.59
        Rod Barajas 0.212 0.218 0.404 0.622

        1. stickguy

It is mindboggling that Bay has a lower slugging percentage than Castillo.

          1. saltygary

Yea thats bad, I saw that as well. Castillo’s SLG should be the Mendoza line for all MLB players.

    3. stickguy

with the normal line up, castillo always got more at bats than everyone but Ryees.

So if you really want to get fancy, put wright in the 2 hole, and castillo 8th.

      1. saltygary

Well if the whole point is to give Bay better looks I would rather do this:

Reyes, Bay, Wright, French, Davis, Pagan, Catcher, Castillo, Pitcher

What Manuel doesn’t have the balls to do is:

Reyes, Bay, Wright, French, Davis, Pagan, Catcher, Pitcher, Castillo

Which would be better for Castillo and put some decent speed in the next turn of the lineup.

        1. johan4cy

Why would you take the chance of the pitcher having any more at bats than he already does?

  3. stickguy

on a more important note, Let’s go Maine!

If he doesn’t have a decent outing tonight, it won’t matter if Bugs Bunny is hitting in all 9 spots.

    1. saltygary

Imagine if the shakeup gets 8 runs on the board but Maine blows it. That would sting more than a good performance and no offense again tonight.

      1. stickguy

not to me. Seeing the offense bust out can carry over, and no one really expects much out of Maine anyway.

BUt getting a good performance from maine would be nice.

        1. saltygary

          It would be so nice…

Why do we need to get Wright more ab’s? We have enough k’s as it is. But seriously, this is pretty pointless. Reyes is a leadoff hitter, and that’s were he should be. I’d rather bat Pagan (our most reliable hitter with RISP IMO). It’s not like Jose is hitting for power but not running well.

    1. Mr North Jersey

But if we are to win we need Wright and Bay to hit. They have to make a effort to try and get them going or else what is the point?

Sure Pagan may be what you would want today to hit with RISP but what about next Friday?

If we are to compete it wont be on the back of Pagan’s hitting with RISP but rather on what Reyes, Wright and Bay do for us over the season.

      1. whataputz

Wrights and Bay’s getting going has nothing to do with batting order. Bay is streaky and Wright needs to find himself again.

        1. Mr North Jersey

I am dumbfounded at how many people have so much reservations at a lineup change. To me at least this is something that has been done to help jump-start an offense for only the last half century give or take.

I can only hope this works because I am afraid to think how will we react if Manuel gives a player the day off.

  5. Mr North Jersey

Bob Ojeda says “When you change a lineup that’s stagnant it can not hurt.”

    Merriam Webster defines stagnant as,

    1 a : not flowing in a current or stream b : stale
2 : not advancing or developing
    http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/stagnant

Sounds like the Mets lineup to me.
