Post Game: Rainy Day Mets # 7 & 34

# 34′s scoreless inning streak of 19 was extended to 24 when Mike Pelfrey (4-0) threw 5 shutout innings.  # 7′s move to 3rd in the lineup is now 3 games old and the Mets are 3-0 as Jose Reyes scored the New York Mets 1st and only run of the game in the 1st inning when with 2 outs he singled.  With Jason Bay at the plate Reyes stole 2nd base, his 4th stolen base of the season.  Bay hit a sharp ground ball which Atlanta Braves 3rd baseman Larry “Chipper” Jones made a nice diving play to stop.  Jones’ 38 year old knees were slow to help him up and as Reyes crossed to 3rd base Jones’ throw to 1st baseman Troy Glaus bounced off of, then rolled away from Glaus.  Seeing this Reyes headed home and scored.  The official scorer ruled it an infield single for Bay and an error on Jones allowing Reyes to score.  That and the rain were all the Mets needed to defeat Tommy Hanson (1-2) and the Braves 1-0 in 5 innings.

Raul Valdes threw 1 pitch (a strike) in the top of the 6th inning to Jason Heyward before the rain came, so Pelfrey will not receive credit for a shutout or complete game.  The Mets at 10-9 are now over .500 for the 1st time since Opening Day.  Their last series sweep was the final 3 game series of 2009 versus the Houston Astros.  The Mets swept a 2 game series from the Braves in May 2009 in Atlanta.  The last time the Mets swept the Braves in a 3 game series in New York was August 2008.  So choose the method that’s right for you and celebrate Mets fans, you deserve it.

Well it wasn’t easy but a win is a win.
Kudos for Pelfrey for keeping them off the board while pitching w/o his best stuff. That and a ‘Reyes’ run was just enough to do it tonight.

A sweep of the Braves – very nice!

And best thing about this win tonight is most of the BP got a rest.

And wow…Pelfrey #1 in the league in ERA with .69.
Bizarre? Livan H. is second with .75.
      Hallady is third with .82.

SNY Sports Night reporting Maine had no pain in his left elbow in his bull pen session today so he’s scheduled to make his next start.

Maine should be happy. If he was a horse they would shoot him and collect the insurance. :)

Heb, nice reference to the great Bob Dylan.

In the middle east getting stoned has a totally different meaning and it’s not as pleasant.

One of my favorite recordings is Here’s That Rainy Day performed by Laurindo Almeida.

Jerry for manager of the year? :)

      Bob Dylan – always classic.
