Who do we get tonight? Good Ollie, Bad Ollie or Ollie Pitcher?

    1. njstuckintx

I think i’d take 4ERs given up if he goes a full 7 innings.

  2. DNDJohan aka kistics

I think the pitching matchup is in favor of the Mets for the upcoming series except for tonight. If the Mets can win another series going into Philly, they should be in good shape. LGM!!!

    Oh btw, LAAAARRYYYYYYY~~!!

    1. CaseStreet

yeah, if the Mets have 15 wins after the Cin series, they’ll be on pace for 90 wins.

Good chance on this game too…
Kuroda moves to 2-0 with so-so effort

Hiroki Kuroda surrendered seven hits and six runs (three earned) with two walks and four Ks in 5 2/3 innings

Larry is looking old (& hurt alread). I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up retiring mid season. I love and hate seeing him leave. It’s like Darth Vader dying.

      1. metsfan4decades

I understand this. As much as we love to boo him, he is/was one of the greats from this generation.

Chipper said in ST if he can’t play up to the level of his own standards, he would retire.

        1. stickguy

after seeing him in person last night, he can’t. Not even close.

So if he really meant what he said, I doubt he makes it past the ASB

          1. trs86

That was my thoughts all along with the Braves. Sure their SP is great but where will the runs come from? With an aging Chipper who will be out more than in they are very dependent on Troy Glaus finding himself again and a rookie (as great as he may be). That my friends is holes in your lineup.

      2. GravediggerHebner

It’s very early yet, but right now it looks like maybe, just maybe, Bobby Cox and Larry Jones are leaving a year too late.

        1. trs86

          Hmmm, correct you may be.

I wonder if Chipper could hang on in the AL as a DH?

          1. stickguy

I doubt he will. But, never say never. I really think when he goes, it is straight into retirement.

          2. njstuckintx

I agree. He’ll hang ‘em up as a Brave. Maybe if he has another kid he’ll name it Citi Field?

          3. trs86

I would think so as well.

    Ohhhh, that felt good!

Just marked off three W’s on the schedule hanging in my cubicle.

I’m reading on MLBTR that the Dodgers, who going into the season had an abundance of SP, now apparently have holes due to injuries and pitchers not getting it done. They’re not sure yet who Tuesday’s SP will be?

Hopefully we can take advantage of that.

    1. metsfan4decades

Although the weather forecast for tonight might help the Dodgers in the short term.

  5. ceetar

    Piazza?

    1. metsfan4decades

Does that question refer to a Met that was there all year or no?
That was the year Wright came up and if I remember correctly, he did very well for the 3 months or so he was up in 2004.

      1. ceetar

was it? Probably was Reyes then. I think Piazza had a down year, average wise, anyway.

        Jason Phillips? nah.

      2. ceetar

I looked it up. It’s not a guy that would’ve qualified for a batting title league-wide. not enough AB.

The guy was .002 better than Wilson Delgado that year.

It wasn’t Kaz Matsui, who batted .272 and was the best on the team that played all year.

Here are a couple of interesting stories from Hardball Talk:

    By D.J. Short

“Don’t tell Craig, but according to David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Jeff Francoeur drove 20-year-old phenom Jason Heyward to Citi Field on Friday night.

As O’Brien relays, Francoeur originally intended to pick up old chum Brian McCann, but when he arrived at the Manhattan hotel where the Braves were staying, Chipper Jones and Heyward also jumped in the car.
“He probably said three words the whole way over,” said Francoeur, smiling. “He’s just sitting there. But he’s having fun. That’s the kind of thing that’s going to allow him to have success and not go through the rollercoaster ride that I went through. He’s very, very mature for his age. It’s incredible.”
Looks like a little bit of Francoeur rubbed off on Heyward, as he struck out three times in four at-bats on Friday night. Whatever it takes.”

“Andruw Jones celebrated his 33rd birthday in style on Friday night, slugging two solo home runs, including a walk-off shot in a 7-6 win over the Mariners.

Jones, who reportedly lost 15 to 20 pounds over the winter, is off to a fantastic start in Chicago, batting .293/.408/.756 with six home runs and nine RBI over his first 41 at-bats this season. He’s been a lone early bright spot for an offense that has combined to hit just .219/.302/.386 thus far.

Still on cloud nine following Friday’s win, the resurgent Jones told Dave van Dyck of the Chicago Tribune the following:
“I’m way far from done. I think I can play five more years.”
It’s a nice comeback story and he certainly deserves regular at-bats in the short-term, but don’t look for this success to continue. Recognize that he’s hitting .412/.500/1.118 with four home runs against lefties, as compared to .208/.345/.500 with two home runs and 10 strikeouts in 24 at-bats against right-handers, consistent with his declining profile since his 41-homer season in 2006. U.S. Cellular Field should prove to be a pretty nice launching pad for him, but chances are he’ll be more useful as a strict platoon player before it’s all said and done.”

    It was David Wright.

Hey Welcome KeithforHOF. Not sure if you have been here before but TRDM welcomes you.

just back home from NY after attending last nights game.

Great seats. Too bad the weather was so nasty.

Sat 3 rows from the field, right behind the photog box next to the visitors dugout (so closer to home plate).

I think we were right behind the owners box (I assume for the visitors?) because even when the Mets announced the riff raff in the upper deck could move down, they still couldn’t sit in those seats.

Much better than sitting in the nose bleeds. But I guess at a face value of $215 (probably the discounted season plan price?) they better be good.

it did seem that the home plate ump was squeezing the pitchers a bit. Even Hanson’s pitch count was getting up there.

And Larry looks really done. Old and slow and creaky. I honestly don’t think he is going to make it to the end of the season.

Wright in person looks every bit as bad as on TV. I don’t think he could hit a beach ball with a tennis racket right now. I am starting to get seriously worried that his stance and mechanics are so fouled up that he isn’t going to be rebounding very much. Last year might just be as good as it is going to get now, with the OBP declining as pitchers realize he doesn’t have to be feared at this point.

  9. trs86

Wright’s had 51 PA with 2 stikes, 31 PA ahead in the count, 22 PA pitcher ahead in the count, 24 even.
With 1 strikes Wright is hitting .128 .333 .154 .487 compared to his career average of .229 .322 .391 .713 for his career. Huge difference there. I still think Wright is just in a slump and will get out of it soon enough. April is his worst month, he had a .763 OPS in April last year and rebounded to a 1.040 in May. This year he has a .817 OPS. I will give him all of May before I start to get actually concerned.

    1. Mr North Jersey

If on June 1st he is still struggling you can forget being concerned I would be in full panic mode with a 3rd of the season gone already.

      1. trs86

I still would be no where near panic mode. The guy is a career .307 .389 .516 .905
He did not get there by not knowing how to hit. I am sure he will fix whatever issues there are and comeback closer to his statistical norm. I am sure you will come back with not everything is about stats. That is true and he looks terrible right now but I have complete confidence that it’s a slump and he will come out of it. If you do not… so be it.

        1. Mr North Jersey

I like how you like guessing what I will say before I say it.

It’s like you are laying the groundwork for any counter I may use based on past conversations and providing a counter for it.

Why you need to do so I don’t know since all I was saying is that I would be in panic mode while you would be only concerned.
