If you could look like an allstar on one night during the regular season, im sure there wouldnt be a better night to do so than against your most hated rival…and John Niese agrees. John laid the smackdown on the phillies last night with his 7 punch outs through 7 innings. John looked amazing last night, had a plus fastball working with a plus curve that would make Wainwright tip his cap. The “youth movement” continues to get it done and right now, Niese is making Omar look like a genius for putting so much stock in him. At one point, Niese retired 17 of 18 hitters he faced untilsingled in the 7th. Niese has allowed just two earned runs in his last 18 innings, and now sports a 3.10 ERA. Well done and like Brad Pitt said in Oceans 13, “the nose plays…the nose plays”
Rod “Swing Hard” Barajas had his 2nd 2 home run performance of the season against the Phills last night. Rod finished the night going 3-4 with 2 home runs and 3 RBI’s, much to the happiness of whoever owns him in fantasy baseball. I cannot say how insignificant it felt to sign Rod during the offseason but its one of those deals that are paying extreme dividends this season so far. Not only has he garnered the praise of his pitching staff, he has shown off the muscle as he now leads the Mets in the home run department. Now im not sure if it was Rods idea or not but he was using multiple hand signals for pitches throughout the game, with runner on or not on but if that in any way played to the results the Mets had today against the Phills, I believe we found the reason for all their success of late. Guess what else starts with P…PHONY!
Jeff Francoeur who would have had the award if Rod didnt hit that second home run. Jeff is the personification of manning up. Jeff got hit with a pitch by Danny Baez that looked intentional, most likely because of his awesome defensive plays this game and that home run he hit earlier. How did Jeff respond to that…by stealing 2nd thats how. Jeff finished his night by going 1-2 with an RBI and accounting for two runs. Its no wonder why you cant help but root for the guy when after the game when reporters interviewed Frenchy, he said he would receive as much treatment as he can because “I don’t want to miss thisâ€. Gotta love Frenchy
Jenrry Mejia for knowing the age old baseball rule that if you hit one of our guys, we are going to hit one of yours. Also for making Ryan Howard look straight up stupid on a heater and two curveballs.
David Wright for his absolute 2 run BOMB to center field
Angel Pagan for his 3-5 game tonight with a single
