Well I guess when it comes to Ike Davis And Rod Barajas I am batting .500. Let me explain, It is common knowledge that I wanted the Mets to sign Rod Barajas during this past off season. His reputation is that of a catcher that knows how to handle a pitching staff, and who might not hit for a high batting average, but who hits for power ( sounds like Paul LoDuca doesn’t it ?)And so far in this young season Barajas has totally raked ! Yesterday he launched his eighth and ninth home runs of the season , whereas Brian Schneider was still stuck on zero. Rod is what has been sorely lacking on this team since ’06 – a player that is a power threat in the bottom third of the batting order. ( the last player was Jose Valentin)
And now I admit that I was wrong about Ike Davis. Don’t get me wrong I love Ike to death, I just didn’t think he would be ready after a handful of of games in AAA Buffalo to be this dominant a player in such a short span of time. He has poise and patience, and the fact that the opposing team hasn’t been able to exploit his weakness against left handed pitching is amazing. And those two homers last night were not of the cheap variety, – OH no ! One hit the facade of the Pepsi Porch which is not as easy as hitting one out at Citizens Bank Ball Park. All I can say is that I am glad I am wrong !

And with that said …. HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!
Happy Birthday wishes go out to current Mets pitcher John Maine (1981). John may your twentyninth birthday bring you much joy, and hopefully it will help you elevate your game and have a fine season.
New York Mets traded pitcher, Larry Foss to the Milwaukee Braves for utility infielder, Chico Fernandez on May 8, 1963. Chico in my opinion had one of the best names in all of baseball – next to Coco Crisp !
New York Mets traded original Mets pitcher, Jay Hook and prospect, Adrian Garrett to the Milwaukee Braves for Roy McMillan on May 8, 1964. Roy would play three seasons for the Mets.He would later manage the mets for a lone season in ’75.
New York Mets released Dick Tidrow on May 8, 1984. Dick – who was at one time a fine pitcher, was at the end of his career , and pitched to a e.r.a of over nine in fifteen games for the Mets that season.
And today’s Mo Vaughn tidbit, he is the only person to defeat the Eagle Burger Challenge – as seen on Man Vs Food. ( for those of you who are wondering it is five pounds of hamburger five pounds of fries, a large kosher pickle and twenty strips of bacon – mmmmm bacon )

To all those who didn’t think Ike was ready and were against the April call up…..hey, it’s certainly not the worst thing to be wrong about.
I was in the camp of liking the idea, more so because I didn’t think Ike could be much worse than a Jacobs/Tatis platoon. Ike is 23, not very young, and his interviews portrayed him as a level headed, hard working kid who was ready for the challenge. I’m sure he’ll need to make adjustments along the way as the book progresses on him, but so far so good.
And so far, what’s not to like about Hot Rod? He might never have the best stats but he calls a good game, he can at least hit a sac fly and he seems to get the ‘clutch’ hits when he’s got the opportunity. Also he’s one tough dude….

totally right on all points. Ike has proven that he belongs here more than murph or evans ever had
and for all of those who were upset that we didn’t sign molina
well i think we got the entire package by signing 2 catchers at about 4 mil less than bengie wanted

Kingman, if you are around, check out the “I like Ike” thread over at FWICG. Not the post, but the comments.
It is a virtual love fest of the Met farm system, with posters trying to outdo each other with the most potential home-growns in the line up by 2012.
You will be in tears my friend.

I keep forgetting how “old” Maine is. It seems he realizes how “old” he is and is taking charge of his destiny. Good for him. I’ll try to avoid picking him up for my fantasy team

All I really wanted was to see him prove he could rake off AAA pitching while giving Murphy a chance to show what he’s got… which went out the window when Murphy got hurt. I still wanted Ike to get a full month down there, but they brought him up earlier and proved me wrong. I’ll take it. Now prove me wrong again and make it to the playoffs without choking…
