    Thank You, Omar.

    It’s about time.

  2. GravediggerHebner

I think listening to “Dancin’ In The Streets” is appropriate behavior.

Or perhaps just literally dancing in the street.

    1. metsfan4decades

I’m certainly doing the Snoopy dance.

    2. Mr North Jersey

I am happy for Carter I been a fan of his all year and I just hope the Mets do right by him and give him more playing time then what Cat got.

      1. GravediggerHebner

That would be ideal but I’m willing to settle for Carter doing better than 3 for 22 as a pinch hitter.

I hear what you’re saying though and honestly I believe Carter will get some starts in RF against the proverbial “tough right handers” because Francoeur is 4 for 31 in May. Those are “Catalanotto-like” numbers.

        1. Mr North Jersey

I said this in the dugout but Frenchy should be lookin over his shoulder just a bit because if Carter is given a start and goes say 3 for 3 and then is given another start and hits as well. It won’t be long before Frenchy may become the 7th inning defensive replacement if Frenchy continues to struggle.

          1. GravediggerHebner

I won’t go so far as strict defensive replacement, but I think platoon is possible. Check this out:

            Frenchy versus LH pitchers 2010
            8 for 25 .320/.370/.400

            Frenchy versus RH pitchers 2010
            18 for 83 .217/.299/.434

          2. dirtysanchez

this is a classic platton situation for jerry if chris hits up here. Dont be surprised if he does…im guessing at this point nobody is..

          3. Mr North Jersey

            Can Jerry fudge this up?

          4. dirtysanchez

            question is when…

          5. Mr North Jersey

            :-)

          6. Mr North Jersey

            Nice observation Grave.

          7. GravediggerHebner

To be fair 2010 is a very small sample, but here are Frenchy’s career splits:

            versus LH pitcher
            806 AB, .299/.341/.484

            versus RH pitcher
            2044 AB, .258/.311/.400

so I think considering a platoon is still reasonable.

          8. Mr North Jersey

            Agreed

          9. GravediggerHebner

Anyway, this discussion assumes Carter can hit MLB pitching. That remains to be seen.

baseball-reference doesn’t have minor league splits so all I know about Carter is his splits this season in Buffalo and he hits both LH and RH well there.

            versus LH
            10 for 27 .370/.433/.481

            versus RH
            28 for 86 .326/.376/.651

yes that’s a .651 SLG vs RH, wow!

    Pinch me I’m dreaming.

Ding Dong the Cat is DFA’ed. The Wicked Wicked Cat.

Next it will take Omar another month to figure out that G_ive M_e J_uice, is off the PED’s.

  4. Mr North Jersey

Thole Davis and Carter and Mejia all together. Nice!!!!

    1. dirtysanchez

lol, the AAA team is better than the major league team right now, hell bring them all up lol

  5. dirtysanchez

lol…its so funny how excited we are all getting for a part time player…sign of the times lol.

    1. Mr North Jersey

Carter goes 0 for 7 and ppl will be callin for Prdie.

  6. fongy2

Sorry Paisano Frankie BUT its about
time. NOW, when can we get Sarge’s son
    the heck outta here??…AND…WHEN do
we REALLY start to worry about JBay???

    1. Mr North Jersey

OMG look it it it it it is Fongy!

    2. stickguy

Bay? If he hasn’t broken out and gone on a hot streak by the end of May, run up the panic flag.

    3. dirtysanchez

Ive been worrying about bay..should have been moved from the cleanup spot along time ago..its like delgado after the hip surgery all over again

      1. ceetar

I’ll take a 9RBI breakout game against the Yankees followed by a tear that includes destroying Halladay and the Phillies.

    4. metsfan4decades

      It’s a Fongy sighting!

GMJ should have been on the shuttle with Cat. But probably something to do with the 40 man roster and a spot opening up.

To me an even more curious question than Bay is how long do you think HoJo has left?

      1. fongy2

I for one really can’t say ’cause I’ve not been really tied-into
the season much so far this year….No time.
        I’ve only seen 12 or 13
games so far this season b/c I’ve been
        so darn busy…BUT w/o
Bel-Tron AND w/Reyes not yet right I’d think as long as the team keeps its head above water he’s safe…But its only a
guess. I find it hard to believe though that
HOJo has much to do with Bays lack of production so far which
        if he’d been himself to
date may have been good enough for 2/3 more wins and 1st place, So……

        1. Mr North Jersey

          I knew I liked you Fongy! :-)

We are on the same page in regards to finding it hard to believe that
HOJo has much to do with Bays lack of production.

          1. fongy2

            I mean C’mon!
            a decade in the majors,
a multi-million dollar contract as one of the top 3FAs
in his class coming off being in the top 2 in HRs&RBIs
            last year AND Hojo
is the reason he’s off to his typical slow start???

          2. Mr North Jersey

            Thank You!

          3. gategem

I don’t know how to break the news to you but I looked up Bays career splits and May has been his best month. He does not normally get off to a “typically slow start.”

        2. metsfan4decades

Thing is, from one who has watched all the games, practically none of them are hitting. Tonight’s game is an example. 12 hits and only 2 runs? 10 left on? 9 Ks?

Wright and Bay and Reyes and Frenchy all struggling at the same time. It’s really frustrating to watch.

          1. fongy2

Yeah, I didn’t realize until I saw it in Sunday’s paper they were hitting .237 as a team.
More Amazin’ they were 4 over at the time.

  7. stickguy

I wanted him to start the season, so I guess better late than never!

Now I want him to get some starts in RF. Earn at least a platoon, if not win the job outright, if Frenchy continues to hit like, well, Frenchy.

ANd now that the ball is rolling, sweep out GM too, Pridie would be fine if they want a real CF type to back up pagan. If not, evans might not be a bad option to get a RH bat on the bench.

    1. dirtysanchez

      Does evens play CF?

      1. Mr North Jersey

        I dont believe so.

        1. dirtysanchez

than evans is not a contestant on the who takes over gmj bench spot contest. Unfortunately, I dont see the mets cutting gmj…

          1. Mr North Jersey

Agreed it wont be Evans. Evans was a contestant for who will replace Cat but Carter has that job now.

GMJ will be replaced by either Beltran, Prdie, Feliciano or Capt Kirk.

    2. GravediggerHebner

As Frenchy is 4 for his last 31 I can’t help think what a rotten shame it is that FMart continues to have injury issues. Had he been healthy and playing everyday with even marginal success I believe he would be a serious threat to take over RF sometime soon.

      1. dirtysanchez

Fmart got pretty cold after ST and like you said, the injuries do not escape him for some reason. One can only hope he will be like reyes and get the injuries out the way early. Question is, with jeffs popularity up here, what will they do with both frenchy and fmart?

        1. fongy2

I think in the end Frenchy is what he is.Pretty good
RF w/ an arm thats a weapon,
line-drive power, not a great contact hitter, too much of a free swinger who Ks too much AND is streaky.
          Still, better than Ryan Church!

          1. dirtysanchez

is that worth giving maybe a 2 or 3 year deal too considering all those things, his age and his popularity. Now take what YOU would do in this situation and base your answers on what may realistically happen(they gave 12 mil to ollie). If they extend frenchy then fmart becomes expendable right?

          2. fongy2

            No!
I think NO ONE should get extentions until after this season is complete!
NO ONE on this team has done anything the past few seasons to deserve it!

          3. dirtysanchez

            hasnt stopped them before fong…

          4. fongy2

            Truw Dat!
BUT I was hoping somethings been learned by Manny,Moe&Jack..Errr…Omar,Jeff&Fred!

          5. stickguy

well, based on the numbers, especially against Rh pitchers (an OPS for his career that would have embarrassed Murphy last year), Frnehcy really shouldn’t be a starting everyday OF.

As a 4th OF/platoon guy (yes, I am on the platoon him and Carter bandwagon), fine. But no way that gets a multi year deal, and realistically, he won’t be worth his arbitration number.

Now, if the Mets value him higher for the “grit” factor, then feel free to overpay for a 4th OF. Just don’t give him a 3/30 deal!

        2. GravediggerHebner

My hope had been that FMart would stay healthy and play well and that the Mets would simply non-tender Frenchy who will be due an arbitration raise from $5 mil next season and hasn’t been good for an extended period since 2006 or 2007 depending on your definition. His hot start this year was nice but in this “what have you done for me lately” world it was a long time ago.

If Frenchy had somehow managed to have a good full 2010 season while FMart was healthy and performing at AAA I hoped Frenchy would be good trade bait.

I didn’t think much about the other possibilities, such as Frenchy being his 2008 self and FMart continuing to be injured. Makes me cherish Angel Pagan that much more though.

          1. dirtysanchez

Frenchy’s case to me screams a classic 2 year deal at the least. They like him here, I dont think he goes anywhere but my question has to do with fmart in that scenario. Fmart has been billed to be much too good for a part time position but with bay/beltran/frenchy hogging the outfield, thats what fmart will be…a part time player. Lets say they do keep fmart though, now what do you do with captin kurk who looks awesome…do you wait out the bay deal to bring him up?

          2. GravediggerHebner

If things were to all break the way I want them to (which never happens) the 2011 Mets OF would be

LF Bay, CF Beltran, RF FMart

and the 2012 OF would be

LF Bay, CF Kirk, RF FMart

FMart has been playing corner OF mostly recently so I am guessing his Met future is in a corner and the only one opening up any time soon is RF. The organization is stuck with Bay for the next 5 years and Beltran for this year and next. Only Frenchy has a contract conducive to his being gone.

Kirk is a CF, who is a level below FMart (by level I mean AA instead of AAA) and so next year, the last year of Beltran’s no trade contract, Kirk plays CF in Buffalo then takes over in NY in 2012.

But that’s a long way off and lots of things have to unfold in certain ways for it to work out like that.

          3. Mr North Jersey

I will only say that at the rate Kirk is hitting AA will be home to him for only 2 more months at best most likely. I fully expect Kirk to be promoted to AAA after the AA All Star Game.

          4. GravediggerHebner

With Carter up here there’s a spot on the roster in Buffalo right now!

          5. Mr North Jersey

            :)

          6. stickguy

evans probably gets that one? Unless Murphy is ready to move up.

          7. fongy2

Plus I think this teams FO should have learned
            already not to tie up
salary and positions, especially given the economy and the financial state
            of many teams.
Could well be guys we’re not even thinkin about who might be available in 2,3
            or6 months!

  8. fongy2

As an aside, I have the misfortune to get MASN down here and the Nats games.
Bob Carpenter and Rob Dibble makePhil Rizzuto sound like he was neutral!

I’ve seriously,in almost 40yrs,never heard such unbelievable homers as
those two….And its not just listening to them against our Mets
    BUT every one.
Further, its not just their Pro-Nats
take on everything BUT their Anti-whoever their playing take.

    1. Mr North Jersey

Id luv to hear them to see what I am missin.

      1. fongy2

        It’s unreal!…Really!
Funny thing is it atleast drove my wife crazy hearing them against the phils!

        Anywho, Gotta sleep!
        I’ll check back tomorrow!

Goodnight Ladies and Gents!….And as always
        Let’s Go Mets!!!

….But not you Gary Matthews Junior….
        You suck!!

    2. GravediggerHebner

The most hilarious thing about their homerism is Dibble has no past ties to the Nats/Expos at all. Where does his homerism even come from, his paycheck?

I don’t have the MLB package currently but based on my past experience, plus hearing them sometimes on MLB network this year, I second what Fongy is saying, those guys are over-the-top.

      1. fongy2

        Thank you!!
I said this Exact thing to my wife a few weeks ago.
        Anyway, goodnight again!
I’ll check back tomorrow in the AM while waiting on these
damn contractors to get finished in my house……Come up with
an interesting thread Heb, like “How much does Gary Matthews jr suck???…Let us count the ways….

      2. dirtysanchez

Consider yourself lucky your not subjected to the likes of dibble and the nats broadcast…you would get more enjoyment from a muted tv than listening to those losers…

  9. stickguy

maybe shouldn’t have been so insulting to the Phils bench (given what the Mets have going on right now), since the Phils got a PH 3 run 9th inning HR today from the immortal Russ Gload! If Cat could have done that, he might still be here.
